Ride To Remember

The 3rd Annual. A good time was had by all reports (this one from the Tribune):
  • On a West Side street Sunday morning, a single motorcycle engine sparked to life. Before long, it was joined by a chorus belching forth a deep, throaty rumble.

Soon a concussive procession of chrome, leather and tattooed arms was speeding past, as hundreds of bikers rode through the 3200 block of West Harrison Street to the awe of pedestrians.

But if the noise was deafening, at least it was for a cause.

Skidders, Bikers should be ticketed for loud mufflers. Put stops on them, most don't have an "M" class DL. I gotta laugh when I see cops dress up like the village people.

I visited the Memorial on the lakefront again last week (friday). I was disappointed to see that there is still no place to park nearby. I have no problem walking a few blocks, but it would be nice if they could put in a pull off area for 2-3 cars with maybe 20 minute parking for the Memorial. That way the older and/or less ambulatory could pay a visit.
The Memorial is a great thing, but the location leaves much to be desired as to access. If your a boss with a company car, or politician with a driver, there's no problem. Millions have been raised and rightfully so; How about the city or park district putting in a small pull off area to park for a visit.

This was my first ride. It was awsome to see all the police, fire, sheriff and non police come out and support this great cause. You couldn't have asked for better weather, too.

I met 2 couples from Colorado who were on vacation, heard about the ride at the last minute and signed up. Very nice people.

Although most people who saw us didn't know what we were doing (other than interrupting their Sunday morning commute) we were a site to behold. One family had pulled over on LSD, and the little kids were waving at us.

I was very proud to be the police Sunday morning. Thanks to all the people who put together this wonderful event. I can't wait 'til next year. But first I have to upgrade to a really loud Harley......my ears are still ringing.

Thanks to everyone that rode in this event which helps support the Memorial and other worthy causes. Then I have to read the post under "Rescued by First Deputy" where someone said that the someone is trying to make people feel bad so they donate to the Michael P. Gordon Foundation. No one in this foundation makes money from it, the funds go back into police related areas, Examples Being: CPD Memorial, National Memorial, Cook County Memorial, COPS Organization, Scholarships and also the True Blue Award which honors Chicago Officers in Michael's name. Michael loved his job and we, his family, are fighting for better DUI Laws and getting people not to drive drunk. So, in defense of our Foundation, I am sorry you feel that way, maybe you should take your donation and bring it to church and light a candle for all the fallen officers across this nation. Thank you for the time and all those that support us.

I LEFT THE 23RD DIST AND I HAVE TO TELL YOU WHY. YOU ARE EITHER A DOG OR A WORKER AND THATS IT!! WE HAD A FEMALE P.O. ON DAYS WHO WAS AFRICAN AMERICAN AND SHE WOULD TRY TO TALK YOU OUT OF LOCKING UP ANY BLACK KID YOU HAD WITH ROCKS OR WEED OR THEFT. SHE ACTUALLY WROTE LETTERS ON BEHALF OF THE FAMILIES OF THOSE KIDS AND THE LETTERS WERE READ IN COURT BY THE PUBLIC DEFENDERS. SHE WOULD START THE LETTER WITH HER POLICE TITLE AND CITY OF CHICAGO AND THEN GO ON TO MAKE UP SOME SOB SHIT THAT WAS ALL BULLSHIT AND ON THREE OCCASIONS THE KID WAS FOUND NOT GUILTY BECAUSE OF HER INTRUDING.
THE BOSSES ALLOW DOGS TO STAY THERE BECAUSE THE BOSSES DON'T WANT TO OFFEND OR UPSET ANYONE. THE WORST BOSSES THERE ARE SGT B. K. A MAN WHO BELIEVES HIS OWN BULLSHIT. HE KNOWS BIG WORDS AND TRIES TO USE THEM WHEN TALKING DOWN TO ANYONE HE COMES IN CONTACT WITH. AS A SGT. YOU SHOULD RIDE ON JOBS AND STAND BACK UNTIL YOU ARE NEEDED BUT THIS MORON TAKES OVER THE SECOND HE SHOWS UP AND EMBARASSES THE BADGE. HE ESCALATES MORE SHIT THAT COULD EASILY BE A 19P OR A CONTACT CARD. SGT. K.S. IS RUDE, CRUDE AND CHEAP. COME ON!! YOU WORK IN 23!! FINALLY THE COMMANDER IS ANTI SOCIAL. HE HAS NEVER IN MY YEARS WORKING THERE EVER SAID A WORD TO ME EXCEPT "EXCUSE ME" WHEN HE WALKED PAST ME AND BUMPED INTO ME AFTER I HAD JUST GOTTEN BACK FROM MY GRANDFATHERS FUNERAL, I THOUGHT MAYBE HE WAS GOING TO SAY THAT HE HEARD ABOUT MY GRANDPA AND MAYBE SAY SOMETHING NICE BUT NO SUCH LUCK!! HE DOESN'T KNOW THE FIRST NAMES OF ANY COP EXCEPT MAYBE THOSE WHO WORK IN HIS OFFICE, ANY BOSSES AND HIS 4 GUYS ON THE WATCH. HOW HARD IS IT TO MEMORIZE A FEW NAMES WITH THEIR FACES. I WAS WORKING ONE NIGHT WHEN A THE CAPTAIN READ A HONORABLE MENTION AT ROLL CALL WITH THE COMMANDER THERE AND AFTER HE READ IT THE CAPTAIN SHOOK THE OFFICERS HAND AND THE COMMANDER JUST STOOD THERE AND SAID NOTHING, NO HAND SHAKE,COME ON!!! THE ONLY TIME WE EVER HEARD FROM THE COMMANDER IS WHEN WE WERE DOWN ON CONTACT CARDS OR MOVERS ETC... BUT WHEN WE DID A GOOD JOB WE ALMOST NEVER HEARD ANYTHING. I THINK HE COULD BE A DEPUTY SOME DAY AND PROBABLY WILL BUT TITLES ARE GIVEN AND RESPECT IS EARNED. THE COMMANDERS IN 3,4,9,10,11,13,15,18,24, ALL HAVE AN OPEN DOOR POLICY AND ARE ACTUALLY NICE TO TALK TO BECAUSE THEY KNOW OUR NAMES AND THEY DON'T RUSH US OUT OR PUT US IN THEIR SCHEDULE FOR 5 MINUTES. WE WANT TO WORK FOR GOOD BOSSES SO PLEASE START MAKING SOME.

It was a great ride for all the right reasons. I have one question. Why cant us coppers who are ALIVE and working be treated as well as the ones who have fallen.

How about some respect for us doing it now day in and day out.

God bless us all.

I hope we have twice as many next year.

What a foolish and selfish statement to address. Sir, you and those like you are the problem with today's CPD. If you have to ask for respect you probably don't deserve it. Do the job that the fallen can no longer do and shut the fuck up. Goof!
