Sue the Gangs?

Do we really need to enrich trial lawyers this badly?
  • Fed up with deadly drive-by shootings, drug dealing and graffiti, cities nationwide are trying a different tactic to combat gangs: They're suing.

Fort Worth and San Francisco are among the latest to file lawsuits against gang members, asking courts for injunctions barring them from hanging out together on street corners, in cars or anywhere else in certain areas.

The injunctions are aimed at disrupting gang activity before it can escalate. They also give police legal reasons to stop and question gang members, who often are found with drugs or weapons, authorities said. In some cases, they don't allow gang members even to talk to people passing in cars or to carry spray paint.

We can just imagine what law firms the mayor would choose to attempt to collect from the gangs. And how would the City define gang bangers assets as liable for seizure?

We don't doubt that certain aldercreatures who used to belong to certain gangs would attempt to carve out some sort of exemptions for their former buddies. Or license and grant geographical limits (franchise fees if you will) defining exclusivity rights to their wards - like the right to extort protection money for photo "estudios" to provide fake documentation for illegal aliens...oh wait, that one already exists!

It's the Chicago way after all.

Why not? Our great white father(Daley) wasted millions of the tax payer's money suing gun makers. His lawyer buddies made some big money.

If the bangers don't pay the fine, does it double like our parking tickets? Do we get to throw them in debtor's jail?

What Da Mare really ought to be doing is sueing the automobile manufacturers and car dealers

Just like Chicago sued 22 firearms makers and 12 suburban gun shops. Daley said manufacturers pour inventory into suburban gun shops far in excess of suburban demand.

General Motors box sedans of a certain vintage are the vehicle of choice for gangbangers. The city of Chicago should recoup the costs associated with GM's willing malfeseance

Oak Lawn has far too many car dealerships with inventory that far surpasses suburban demand

These car dealers know that a significant number of these cars will be purchased by Chicago gang members, and there is very little investigation into whether these individuals are in possession of a valid Illinois Drivers license

Maybe some of those awesome cool CAGE unit guys can preform a straw purchase sting at Hawk Ford of Oak Lawn

The very Reverend Holy Al. Sharpton is coming to town to get in on the money train. The bogus rape case he cooked up almost worked so maybe he has a modification of that to take on the road and what better place to do it than Chicago where they always settle and don't have any lawyers that can win in court if they do go to trial.

It is actually not a bad idea. In discovery we can ask for their tax returns, which I'm sure they don't have or that they don't show their ill gotten gains. If OCD is any good at all they should have plenty of evidence to make a civil case stick. Heck it worked with Al Capone.

Great letter from the 11th Ward councilman in Cleveland to a former constituent of his ward (gang-banger) who was arrested. He really let the goof have it. He ended the letter with "see you in prison or the funeral home," and signed it. It was on official Cleveland city council letterhead.

We need a few BRAVE politicians like that here.
