- We were told at Roll Call today that the Commander will be riding around on the 4th of July. He will be paying special attention to parks and schools. Any police officer caught doing fireworks by him and a CR # will be obtained. I guess he said Fireman too. Better do your fireworks in front of your houses. He will be paying special attention to Hiawatha Park and Norwood Park
Is the Commander still that humorless guy from IAD? If so, it figures.

Good! I moved from a "lesser" neighborhood to one of 016's more pristine areas and guess what? The fireworks here are ten times worse than they ever were in my old neighborhood. And when I look out my window, guess who's shooting them off? Yes, you got it, coppers and firemen. It's ridiculous. It goes on till 0100-0200. Fuck the CR number, I wish he'd lock them up!
Captain M.B., formerly of 025, had his demotion hearing last week. The panel heard the evidence, interviewed the witnesses, deliberated and then unanimously recommended that he should not be demoted.
The court sergeant admitted that he and the judge agreed to sneak Abbatte out of the court room and he then informed Patrol Division Headquarters of their intentions and never told the watch commander.
The traffic officer admitted he wrote the parking citations on the news media vehicles without telling the watch commander.
Sam Christian admitted that the traffic officer told him this that day.
The watch commander should not of been under the gun but rather Charles Williams for rushing to judgement and Monique Bond for throwing a "hissy fit".
Contrary to what Charles Williams says, remember the news media is not our friends.
I wonder if the media will admit that they are not above the law and that they acted like a scene out of the old movie the Front Page on the day in question. I also wonder if Tom Needham and the judge removed Abbatte from the building in a rolltop desk.

So the top man in 016 going after fireworks violators in his district? Is this a problem that deserves the commander's best efforts and energies?
Hardly. Maybe the commander has too much time on his hands because "there's nothing going on in 016". If the commander is at a loss as to where to focus his efforts at law enforcement, how about going after the MLDs and Latin Kings that are now active at Irving and Lavergne? How about using his tac and gang specialists to find the "safe houses" in 016 that spanish gangs in 025 and 014 are using to store their weapons, drugs and cash?
And to add injury to insult, the double standard continues. If 016 is clamping down on fireworks at the parks, then why do parks in 015 and 025 get a free pass on municipal violations? Go to La Follette Park on any given weeknight and it's a freek-nic - 100 to 150 people, BBQ'ing, drinking, cars parked all over, trunks open and music thundering the radius of a city block. Does "da poleazes" stop them? Once in a while, yes. Mostly? No.
Do you see that kind of nocturnal activity at Norwood, Shabonna, Hiawatha, or Oriole parks???
The commander needs to get some perspective and let the residents of his district blow off some fireworks. There are more urgent and pressing issues to deal with in 016 that require his attention and talents.

There was an article in the neighborhood paper saying the principle and others from Canty school bitch that it takes thousands of dollars to clean up and repair things around the school after the 4th of July. "We need police to be here!" Whaa, Whaa, Whaa. Like the police can be YOUR personnel security guard.
If the school(s) had any damn sense they would hire some off-duty coppers and pay 'em $100 each to keep people from destroying the property. In the end, the cost would be only 10% of what the cleanup would be. However, the school officials are either too stupid or too cheap.

If you need to see fireworks that badly, there are huge displays put on PROFESSIONALLY ( meaning safely, not by some copper on his 18th Lite of the night )all over the area. Park Ridge, Des Plaines, Niles all have great displays, for free. But then, if you leave the safety of your own little world, you might run into some of those "others", huh?
I'm glad to see Price doing something about it after the debacle at Ebinger school last 4th. Off duty coppers with a few beers in them giving the on duty police more shit than any Englewood crowd! A real proud moment for Edison Park. Not.

I always thought our job was to protect life and property. Seems that stopping a bunch of drunken hillbillies (City employees or not ) from blowing off arsenals of illegal fireworks would fall under that umbrella mission statement.

We now have and American Holiday where people want to go to a controlled, safe location to celebrate, and Police Officers are being threatened while having a day away from the Savages with their families. Maybe 016 really doesn't have anything to do. If this Commander arrives at the scene of any controlled firework display, have every old lady sitting in their lawn chairs shame him. If you want to see and hear all the noise you want go to a professional show at the Pier or any suburban neighborhood. Saying that the Captain was demoted that day was just a ploy to fool the media who were calling city hall. Let the media think they won until everything quieted down and the captain is off the hook. Word is he will demand to be returned to his watch in 025 or will sue the Superintendent.

The Fourth of July is a date albeit a very, very important date in American history. It is the nation's birthday, the USA's Independence Day. The result of years of fighting a War of Revolution to throw the yoke of Imperial Britain's Monarchist Oppression off of this Great Land .
The USA has a proud tradition of celebrating her INDEPENDENCE which includes picnics, parades,display of the flag, family barbecues and fireworks. Fireworks on the Fourth are as American as baseball and apple pie.
By setting off fireworks and creating noise and colorful displays we are joyously and proudly proclaiming to the world our pride and independence. The explosive noise is reminiscent of the sounds of war and cannon fire the aerial colors soar high in the sky for all to see.
Political Correctness is a disease of weakness and cowardness that has infected this country and her people, worse than AIDS or stage four cancer.
Those whiners that cry about celebrating our nation's greatest holiday should move to a communist, totalitarian country and let the state dictate; when and how they live. If you are scared of the 4th, isolate yourself in your basement and hide like the coward that you are.

Most of you seem to overlook the commanders integerity to the community who every year in June ask him to stop or slow down the fireworks. These are not firecrackers, but the ariel bomb, M-80's and M-120's that rock our community. What you seem to be leaving out are the garages that are totaled out by fire and kids who have their fingers blowen off. One kid three years ago had her hand taken off by her dad's fireworks. I work in 016 and for Commander Price...I can say first hand that the guy is / has been nothing but good to me and he does run a tight ship as far as discipline goes but if you know that going in...don't fuck up...plain and simple...If you do what you're told...you will not have a problem...its not like the guy is looing for "you". As far as the W/C on midnights is concerned....he is a VERY moody guy...I don't know that he and Price get along...The W/C has been great at times and a real bastard at other times...he is on the street every night for at least 3-4 hours and rides on jobs...he often times causes more harm than good when he shows up on your job...with his charming attitude. I have no idea why this guy...a Captain...doesn't relax and leave the policeing to the watch...they do their job and I can't think of any district where the W/C rides around 3-4 hours a night and goes to jobs to add his 2 cents...He should stick to administrative stuff..and he always rides around with either the Lt or some poor Sergeant...every night!! He will not drive himself...he always rides with one of the above. getting back to Price...He is not a bad guy...just doing what he is told and if you ever need anything he will bend over backwards for you to help as long as you do your job and your part...if you're a dog...welll....you know the rest of the story...
