An Interesting Point

Someone brought it up in the comments section, if Grau and Williams are the #3 and #4 guys in the Department (or at least among the top 6), how can they not be qualified for the job?

And if the selection committee (which is commissioned by the Police Board, which is itself appointed by Daley) couldn't come up with the "best and the brightest" from our very own upper echelons, then why even have a selection committee?

And does anyone know if the committee re-opens the application process? Or are they forced to choose from the previous 50 or so applicants who submitted their resumes during the actual process? Because if they have to use the existing applicants, hasn't the mayor just doomed us to a second tier choice since the entire purpose of the committee was to select the "best and brightest" already?

Seems like the New York guy is the only one with balls - he withdrew his name from further consideration after being bumped.

The entire process has been opened up again to anyone seeking the job.

Dana Starks is the new Superintendent.

Expect a complete restructuring and a back to basics approach to policing. There will be many retirements shortly along with some promising promotions. In time morale will improve and things will get back to normal.

Daley was a no show at Cline's retirement tonight. Seems he was busy looking through the Pocatello Idaho Policemans Yearbook for that "new superintendent". Nice turn out for a decent guy who did what he had to do with limited resources and budget.

I can only hope we get someone who grows a pair somewhere along the line. In the mean time Dana is going to run this department into the ground faster than terrorist into a building.

First off, we need to call a meeting, during which, we'll formulate an agenda to schedule another meeting at which time we'll form a committee to meet but only if a quorum is in place afterwhich we'll break for lunch only to return and schedule another meeting to create a committee to accept applications which we'll review and review and then we'll interview the applicants and then call a meeting to discuss the prospective applicant's qualifications and then break for lunch only to return and schedule another meeting.....oh heck, just make Seiser Supt.

What a kick in the teeth. You're currently part of upper management in one of the largest municipal, if not thee largest, municipal law enforcement agency in the world and your leader tells you, you don't have the qualifications to lead the agency. Who in God's name would now apply for this job, let alone work for someone like this? Ya gotta love it,this could be a new reality show where the applicant for Superintendent goes before a panel of 3 and dances and sings or the applicant can stand on stage and after stating which community leader he'll appease, be asked, "Deal or No Deal"?

The problem was the 3 applicants didn't live in the DOC.

Many of the "best and brightess" departed when they saw what Hillard and then Cline were promoting.
When they realized they could receive a great pension and did not have to deal with incompetancy, backstabbing and the failure to be backed they departed and found employment elsewhere.

A prime example of someone who was promoted who should not of been and who caused major problems for the Department that are not over was Hillard promoting Darling to Commander of SOS. Another example is that of Cline "Balkanizing" the Department so no one knows who supervises whom! Both of those so-called Superintendents treated the disciplinary system with contempt that have led to major problems that will take years to fix.

If I understand it correctly, and someone correct me if I am wrong I think the committe reopens the selection process, and the old applicants have to reapply. What Daley is telling us is that no one in this department who submitted an application is qualified. I think we are going to get an outsider. There is talk that Ramsey is interested in applying. He is probably the best we can hope for.

The only reason that Daley opened the process back up is because either the person that he really wanted was not among the 3 finalists or Grau and Williams pissed him off during the interview process. I suspect a little of both. I suspect that Grau was the favored one and during or after the second interview Daley got pissed by something that was said.

As for Dana being the actor, all I can say is:
"Can you believe that I AM THE SUPERINTENDENT, CAN YOU BELEIVE IT!" (spoken in reverened speak)

CPD started a fast downhill slide when Hillard became the Superintendent and he began listening to Cline as his senior advisor.
Hillard pushed out John Townsend and Michael Malone when Cline told him they were a serious impediment to making progress in the future.
The only thing that they were blocking was Cline's addvancement as they recognized him to be devious.
Then it was all down hill as the lying to the public and the Mayor took off big time.
We all will suffer as a result.

That should send a message to everyone. Think about it. If Grau and Williams aren't qualified, why are they in those key spots within the police department. Something obviously isnt adding up. As said before, they should both take that fat pension and resign! They both just got slapped in the face.

As I said the other day read "Crime File" today (again). He really has gone soft in the head. The next thing he will be telling us is that OJ is innocent. Last week he was whining about news people dying in a helicopter crash while covering a police chase. I'm sure they would have jammed a copper in a New York minute if they had the chance.

John Townsend was an evil backstabber just like his clout, Daley. He was Daley's mouthpiece int eh CPD. Never had an original idea and resented those who did.

At Cline's party, the usually very sociable and friendly Grau was not in the best of moods and did not leave his table and mingle the entire night. I'd bet his papers are going to be put in soon, as he looked about as disgusted as I've ever seen the man. The Mayor really handled this situation poorly. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise coming from a City that can't even get a promotional exam right.

What's the big surprise? dilly daley is running the search for supt. just like the promotion exams. The results don't come out till he has who "he" wants in place. If the police board gave him dick tracy, joe Friday and sherlock holmes, he would hold off till they included a political Mr. Magoo to kiss his ass and stick it to the men.

Good Riddance to Cline and a very Big Welcome to Superintendent Dana Starks!!!

The only coppers worried now are the useless meritorious "Cline Clout-Babies". The CPD will be a much better organization now that these political hacks are leaving.

Phat Phil created his very own political fifedom within the CPD In the process Phat Phil just about ruined the entire department. Amazing what one egomaniac got away with,no wonder the Mayor is furious.

An example of Hillard and Cline's failure to lead and the problems that occurred as a result is reflected in the individuals they promoted and kept around them. Examples are as follows:

Jim Darling always was an undisciplined slob and his failure to control the people who worked for him led to the SOS mess.

Frank Radtke had a problem with alcohol for many years and everyone knew it.

This was the chain-of-command for Finnegan. No wonder we have problems.

He never said a word about them not being qualified. He was quoted as saying that he didn't want the system of hiring to seem closed off to idividuals from different locations. Same smoke and mirrors bullshit. It will be a black GUY. Not African American because there is no such thing....Just like no Irish American, German American, or Mexican American. You are either American or not..... It will be a black guy and may still be Williams. Now he can say (or maybe Grau) that he EVEN RE-OPENED THE ENTIRE WORLD UP TO THE POLICE BOARD AND THEY COULD FIND NOBODY BETTER THAN WILLIAMS OR GRAU. SO I PICKED GRAU....or I PICKED WILLIAMS. Don't give a nights rest to this bullshit. This is for the reverends. Now Dana can put Super on his resume for whatever job they have lined up for him. He WILL NOT FUCK THIS P> He will have no power what so ever and if he gets stupid like he did when Cline went on furlough, he will retire the next day....Mark my words.
