Political Correctness Again
- Every day for nearly 30 years, Walid Elkhatib has sold doughnuts. Glazed, chocolate frosted, Bavarian Kreme and other varieties. As a Dunkin' Donuts franchisee, he expanded the menu to include breakfast sandwiches, such as egg and cheese bagels.
But he drew the line at serving sandwiches with sausage, ham or bacon because his Muslim faith forbids him from eating or handling pork -- a departure from company policy that led Dunkin' Donuts in 2002 to threaten it would take away his two Chicago-area franchises.
So for five years Elkhatib has been waging a legal battle against the Boston chain claiming racial bias, not religious discrimination. The federal court of appeals in Chicago last month reinstated the case, blurring the lines between religion and race.
This is America. And if you aren't willing to sell us a breaded pork chop sandwich or a Wendy's Baconator or any of the "other white meat" products, then you really don't belong in the food service industry. Previous corporate policy notwithstanding, if the corporation changes direction, ownership or policy and you expect to remain part of their franchise, then you better abide by corporate rules. There is no "right" to not follow the rules of your employer, and if your employer says you're going to sell bacon sandwiches because that's what consumers want, then, by allah, you're going to sell bacon sandwiches and like it or you're going to lose your franchise.
And we've also consulted with a couple of imams and there doesn't seem to be any provision that bans the touching of pork products in the koran, only a ban on consuming it. Same goes for handling alcohol - someone better tell all the west and south side arab store owners (each of which swears he's a good muslim if you ask) to stop selling all that Old E.

I think it is simple....he does not sell it - do not go there for it.
Next problem.
Just like the radio and Rap music - you do not like, you do not listen...change the station!
You want bacon - go to the store that sells it.
Thank You! Come Again!
Wonder if those 2 locations are for sale? How many coppers would it take to get the down payment together?
Barack Obama Bin-Laden says---
When I become caliphate of the Islamic States of America, this man will be the head of the FDA.
Why is this on the blog SCC. Who gives a s@#t. There are bigger problems concerning CPD.

Sorry folks but I agree with the poster above for same reasons.
Annnnnd there is the little PERSONAL reason.....
Walid Alkhatib is very good to the poleese at two of his stores...in 018.
He owns the Dunkin Donuts at Chicago/State AND Clark/Division.
His empolyees/managers will sign a complaint or be a very pro-police witness whenever they're asked. Rare enough these days, indeed!
They are GOOD people and GOOD to US...
I'd never buy one of those sangys there anyways. But a cup of coffee is a good thing....
-Not Hatin on Walid and No Hair Gel Here
slippery slope and we keep caving to em,..lets just give the brown people are country...5 year ban on immigration is needed asap
"Haji's Will" is upon us,meaning the US. When will this weak, meek, pussified, populace rise????
We,the People...
We,the consumer...
We,the irate majority, sick of your fricking BS and attempted enforced foreign customs and religious heathen ways...
WHEN???
SCC you are off the mark on this one. If the guy does not want to sell the stuff, so be it. Anyone who wants those sandwickes or whatever can go to the next store. Case Closed. Leave the guy alone.

Because even we get sick of pointing out every single dysfunctional problem of this Department and the City that runs it. Might as well point out other stuff too.

If the guy doesn't want to sell the stuff, the Dunkin Donuts has every right to pull the franchise. That's the point. That's the insanity of political correctness. There's plenty of other businesses to get into that don't sell pork products - go run a dry cleaners or something else. But if you join a corporation that sells ham or bacon, then you have to abide by their franchise agreements. And that means selling their products. Case closed.
Are not the Jews the same about pork? It seems these old world goofy religions are out dated.
Who cares?? There are over a thousand Dunkin Donuts in this city. If he doesn't have what you want, move on. If enough people move on, he will close for lack of business. Burger King doesn't sell pizza but I think they should, so if they don't want to we should make them close, right?
Time to make the Donuts!
(FOR CLINES RETIREMENT PARTY)
Good Riddance!
I'll take a bacon and ham sandwich and wash it down with a Steel Reserve, thats good eatin'!
I was behind DD on this one at first but there are several factors to consider.
1. When he started the franchise they did not carry such products
2. Up until recently they allowed him to deviate.
Still I was behind DD until I found out:
3. They don't force other non-Arabs to sell all the product line...specifically mentioned was a Jewish franchise owner.
I'm all for them pulling his franchise if they are consistent with all other religious objectors.
I also am concerned about the Sharia activism in this country. Were I to travel to Iran, would they respect my cultural choices? I doubt it.

SCC, you forgot to let the idiot who wrote this that this guy might also set some sort of precedent if he wins this case. Eventually, millions of people will come up with B.S. reasons so they don't have to work and then we'll have to support them with our own money!!! oh, wait...

Bigger problems than the state of affairs for
the police church of Dunkin Donuts?
Pish Shaw.
Religious zelots need to be resettled to the east.
Seen Arab store owner munchin on a BLT an washin it down with a bottle of Mikes Hard Lemonade the other day, this was after denying the fact that he let the enemy in his store to hide his "sack", told me america is a great country as I walked away shaking my fat head.
Now the crazy liberal Washington Post has picked up this story and is saying that Dunkin' Doughnuts is forcing this Arab to choose between his religious convictions and his livelihood! What a crock! As a franchise owner myself I can tell you that when you open a store you sign a contract agreeing to strictly follow company proceedure. This would be like a Payless shoestore owner refusing to sell leather shoes cause they're Hindu. Give me break. No one is telling him he has to live the American Dream. Maybe he should go back to the middle east and see what kind of business opportunities there are!
He knew this was a part of the product when he started. If he were to win this, what will follow?
Will all Dunkin' D's, and other stores have to have signs whether or not they sell pork products.
Will cashier lines at Jewels or Dominicks have signs saying NO PORK, or for that matter NO MEAT in this line because the cashier is a vegan.
If you can't stand the feet don't work in a shoe store.
"There is no "right" to not follow the rules of your employer, and if your employer says you're going to sell bacon sandwiches because that's what consumers want, then, by allah, you're going to sell bacon sandwiches and like it or you're going to lose your franchise."
Interesting viewpoint SCC.
Would that same statement also hold true to Pharmacists that refuse to dispense Birth Control Products because they allege it's in conflict with their Religious Beliefs?
Only you can prevent grease fires.
"If the guy doesn't want to sell the stuff, the Dunkin Donuts has every right to pull the franchise."
BINGO!!! Im 100% with SCC on this issue. Its this type of crap that is destroying America.
If Habib wants a pork free donut shop then open his own.Why do Corporations and the FEDS give so much "help" to protected class citizens???
As an American, (born, bred and served with pride), does my vote for being offended count? Just curious. Because I'm offended the very rights, freedoms and way of life here in my country of the good ole United States is being butchered, altered and turned into something it is not.
I like the way I was raised. I like the public schools I attended. I liked saying the "Pledge of Allegiance" and using the term "God" even though I wasn't the most religious guy around. That's what our country was founded on and that's the way it should be.
When over in the great sandbox, we didn't get to do as we normally do as Americans. We respected their crazy cultural morays and religious bullshit for what? So they can come here and change ours?
FUCK THAT!
Back to backwards Islamland you shit eatting heathens...
Interesting viewpoint SCC.

Yep. That statement holds true completely with the pharmacists beef about "morning after" pills and condoms and birth control pills. If these are (A)legal products (B)available in the state or entire nation and are (C) carried by your corporate employer, then you are obligated to sell them, religious convictions be damned.
People who don't like it can find another career.
What's the problem? He doesn't have what you want, go somewhere else. That's the American way!
" Burger King doesn't sell pizza but I think they should, so if they don't want to we should make them close, right?"
And if the franchise owner of a BK doesn't want to handle beef, no burgers at this BK? Onion ring sandwiches only..
Hope you don't use this skewed logic on the street.
You must be a Sgt's dream to have in his sector.

Huh? What kind of asshat logic is that?
That's what is on the breakfast menuin @99% of DoubleD's its called marketing consistency moron.
BK doesn't offer Pizza in the 1st place so that's irrelevant.
Dummy lameass contrast/comparison 1/2 wit.
