Late Posting and a Response
Sorry about the sporadic posting tonight. Sometimes, we end up working later than planned and can't update until very early in the AM.

- First I want to apologize for using this space which should be going to help Mike Mette, for an off topic contribution/rant
I have to call SCC out as a hypocrite and a bullshitter.
In another thread I asked you for your bright ideas about how to safelyy stop a fleeing motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed, using another motor vehicle in an urban envireonment.
So far your silence is deafening.
We aren't that strict on off topic stuff unless it's an "Officer Down" thread, so we aren't bothered by that. But the complaint that we're a "hypocrite and a bullshitter" begs for a response.
A hypocrite is someone who advocates one position and then does something different. We don't see where that charge applies. Same for the bullshitter charge. What gives? As for not responding, we moderate some 200 comments a day lately and write between 2 and 5 posts each and every day. If we spent every waking moment responding to everything, we still wouldn't get to it all.
You want a response to how to stop a fleeing vehicle in an urban environment safely? We've never claimed to be a traffic expert or a physics professor. You get a couple thousand pounds of metal moving fast, it's going to be difficult at best to stop it. There is no risk free policing. But the fact is that a "no chase" policy only encourages more people to flee. And then stop-sticks, PIT maneuvers, and any other actions are only going to cause greater risk to the police and public. Maybe someone smarter than us could invent a car TASER that fries the electrical systems - we've heard that it's in the works somewhere.
Once you stop enforcing the law, disregard for the law becomes habit. Lax traffic enforcement leads to more "impolite" drivers. Disbanding Summer Mobile leads to more drinking on the beaches and curfew violations at the lake front. No School Patrol means the high schools go up for grabs on a daily basis. It's a no-win situation

SCC="Right on target as usual!" Keep writing the blog!
SCC you are doing a great job and perform a valuable service. I know that you have to respond to nonsence like this, but don't let the ranting of fools get you down.
Hey DUMBASS did you ever think the reason SCC did not entertain your question/Off Topic subject is because the only option(s) we have when in pursuit of a vehicle is to CALL OF THE CHASE, OR BE CALLED OFF. But sideswiping, laying spikes on the road? That's some rural California Shit, or some suburb with so much of Federal Monies, they don't know what to do with it. Sorta like Cook County Police. They have the Monies to turn every officer into a DARE officer? That's a lot of cash. So, stick to watching COPS Dumbass because obviously you are not an Officer, let alone a Chicago Police Officer (He/She would've never asked this quesiton). If you're Media? Please go on a Fucking RIDE-ALONG in busy district. I can see why SCC mentioned your topic, was only reason was to defend themselves - I don't blame them. Next Time SCC don't waste the space on some stupid like this.
I don't remember where I read this but I believe other departments are in the process of testing a gun which is shot at the vehicle and emits a GPS device which sticks to the vehicle. From that point the vehicle can be tracked from a central location, OEMC, fusion center etc. I don't know how big the GPS device is, or how easily it can be removed from the vehicle, but this could be one way of at least tracking the vehicle.
I also have no clue if this department would be willing to buy one for every car, because that is the only way this system would be capable of working. If only one or two beat cars had this device it's practically worthless because the chase would be terminated before the beat car with the device could even catch up the the offenders vehicle.
Off topic...
I feel that fighting for residency is fruitless. As long as democrats run this city, it will not change, and probably will not change under any circumstances. Anyone would realize that if residency is abolished home valus and the tax base would go down. Unless there is court intervention which forces the city to drop residency, it will not happen. That would be a deal breaker for the city.
I also think that we can forget 5% raises. It would be nice, but we can probably expect something in the range of 2-2.5% as usual.
The golden ring is earlier retirement, at a higher percentage. State Police-80% after about 27 years ( I don't know the exact number of years). Also see what they get in New York. This job ruins the health of the members, for many reasons, some of them our own fault (diet, lack of exercise) and some not (goofy hours, high stress). We need to be able to retire earlier.
Also better health benefits, dental and vision at a lower out of pocket price to the membership. Can someone explain to me why the medical plan will not pay for preventive actions like heart imaging, but pay through the nose for by passes and other heart procedures?
Thats what the union(s) should be looking for. Long term benefits, with reasonable salary bumps.
Stay Safe.
I would have to disagree with you, SCC. Stop sticks are very effective, lots of municipalities use them outside of Illinois. It is all a matter or WHERE you choose to deploy them. Some asshole fleeing us down sidestreets on four flats is much less of a danger than with four inflated tires and a full tank of gas driving a car he does not own!
SCC again 100% true! The schools everyday are up because the animals in the CPS the shit school system cannot behave! The parks have more trouble now what a great dept we have! THANKS TO DALEY AND HIS PUPPETS EVERYTHING IS SO FUCKED UP! WILL STARKS MAKE A DIFFERENCE? ONLY FOR HIMSELF AND HIS FRIENDS THE REGULAR WORKING COPPER HAS NO CHANCE IN THIS CITY!
Why does our Army wear those french hats now?? Why a beret or tam? Are they trying to be Jac?
early retirement city wants to raise the minimum age back to 55
that's the good news if you have 10+ years on for new hires after 2010 you'll be in a 401 glad I only have 5years to go
STOP CHASING PEOPLE WE DONT HAVE A CONTRACT,YOU MIGHT GET SUED,SOMEONE MAY GET KILLED AND "BRETT FAVRE WOULD TELL YOU THAT YOU SHOULD OF WENT TO DUNKIN DONUTS"
The CPD will chase for BS, thats the problem, traffic and dollar store thefts. You know it and I know it give up the BS lies.
I would be suprised if residency even got a mention in negotiations.
More importantly I think issues that need to be addressed at retirement issues such as Healtcare and retirement that is more like the state 20yrs/80%. It is inevitable that we will all retire and should consider these things. If we cant get a nice raise that keeps up with the cost of living how about reducing our costs?
All to often we look at short term fixes when we should be looking long term.
The golden ring is earlier retirement, at a higher percentage -
sure ass wipe, retire early and try to figure out how to pay for your non-covered [as in everything] health prescription costs.
ps - screw dona-goitter, our potatoe and gravy sucking hack of a union [oh, sorry FOP, not union] leader
Mr. Peter Karl:
Please turn in all of your guns and save lives.
One 55 gallon drum of Kool-Aid and a full season "CrimeWatch" DVD for each turn-in.
Have Jim Jones make the Kool-Aid.
Lax traffic enforcement leads to more "impolite" drivers.
And coppers are the worst offenders.

Isn't that on the requisition list from Tobias for the start of each& every incoming white shirt class& their subsequent in-service training?
"Car Taser"... Last night I watched an old Ronald Reagan movie in which the McGuffin was a newly invented "inertial projector" that functioned as a car (or plane) "taser". In the last scene, sidekick "Gabby" tries to bolt a new assignment so he can get married; the boss has his taxicab zapped.
We could achieve the same effect by requiring every car to have an external override in its computer control system, which could be triggered by a coded signal. The override would drop the motor to idle, so power steering and brakes would still work (safer that way).
Yeah, the override could be bypassed; but that would be illegal and thus an extra risk. And how many of these mopes tweak the car in advance? Often they've just stolen it.
There would be an expense to retrofit cars on the road, and some cleverness to retrofit vintage cars, but it could be done.
