A lively debate over at the liberal leaning "Chicagoist" website regarding the recent misbehavior in the 011 District following the fully justified shooting of an armed subject who was an 8 pound trigger pull (give or take a few pounds) away from becoming a murderer of a police officer.
Go read the 60 or so comments over there. Evidently, we have a number of supporters who read the site, but it also provides an interesting window into how liberals and police haters justify their ill will toward the only thing that protects them from complete anarchy.

It's always nice to know what the enemy is thinking. This society is so screwed that the only way to cure it is to drink from the giant Kool-Aid pitcher on the 5th floor of city hall. Ignorance is surely bliss.

At least in the burbs, we have ours still. People cant be out on the corner selling in the burbs. If the cops dont take care of it, at least the property owner still has his, and can do that job to make them move on.

A news story on TV this morning reported and showed that at one point during yesterdays "protest" the police were forced to lock the doors at Harrison to keep protesters at bay. It's actually on film. Officers standing behind locked doors at THEIR POLICE STATION being taunted by anti police thugs! my father in law busted heads during the days of rage. I'm glad he's not around to see what his department has become.
You know, maybe you'd have more support from citizens if you weren't too busy protecting all the scumbugs on the force. Yes, every institution has its assholes, but the CPD seems to go out of its way to protect theirs. I was a law-and-order, always-support-the-cops type until I moved to Chicago about 15 years ago. I came from a smaller but still pretty big city where the cops, while firm and aggressive, weren't as thuggish as the cops are here. I always gave police the benefit of the doubt, and had no problem with aggressive policing or calling 911 on the rare occassion when I would witness a domestic battery or fight or drug deal or hit-and-run. And I realize you guys and gals have some of the hardest jobs and that your job doesn't pay enough, especially when you are forced to live in this city, which I think is wrong, given the price of owning a home and raising a family in Chicago. But after so many stories about city and police officials still refusing to come clean about the torture era; about people in bars getting beat up; and rude encounters with cops (no, I've not been arrested, and I live a clean life, and I am a hardworking professional, and I always call cops "sir" or "ma'am" and actually mean it), I just got tired of giving the CPD the benefit of the doubt.
This doesn't make me some liberal idoit who weeps for gangbangers (I don't), only a realist when it comes to supporting the city's cops. I wish you guys and gals the best, and hope you all stay safe out there and manage to have rewarding careers, but until some changes take place, my loyalty to and support of Chicago cops will be pretty thin.

I can't even believe some of comments made about this situation. Just yesterday on the radio the uncle of this person shot and killed said that all police officers in the community know this boy as "the running boy" because that's what he does he runs from police and they chase him and then they all have a laugh about it. WTF !!!! If this is true in any way (which i highly doubt) then it is his own fault for playing that deadly game. You run from the police like it's a game and laugh about it.....umm hello, running from police is a crime in itself isn't it? And besides that did anyone think "the police in the COMMUNITY know him but what about officers outside the community that might stumble upon him. They have a split second to make a decision on if THEIR own lives are in danger and this to him and his family is just a game? I don't understand it, i hope that the police can get their hands on that radio recording as evidence that this boy does this all the time and sees it as a joke or somekind of game with the police.

Headline to media: If one has a gun you can shoot them, even in the back. It does not matter, its not a fair fight when you arm yourself with a firearm vs an officer.
Time for this city to read up on the laws of this state on defeating an arrest with a weapon. Having a gun in public, causing a threat of death upon a officer or civillian, and all those forcible felonies.
Its actually interesting that Robert Jordan said that an "UNARMED KID" was shot while the Police were chasing him. And we have to have the Mayor stick up for us and say that he was running with a gun, and the gun was recovered. I use to like Ch.9.

how many of us have been there when someone points a gun or a knmife at you, and TURNS to run. Should we let them run, so that they can go kill or hurt someone else. This kills me that people don t realize how fast someone can turn, fire, and turn back, and then we fire. and all you hear is "SHOT IN THE BACK". it disgusts me, we should let them run rampid on the West Side, and everyone bid to 016, then see how certain people feel.

So you just go by what you hear? you say you've never had a bad encounter so you just go off what someone told you or what the media reports, yeah, that's real reliable, whatever, you have your opinion so go and give your loyalty to criminals, in fact, call them when you need something.

why do you assume that "liberal" = "police hater"? It's just not the case. Not at all.
Why are we even responding to these liberals? When you sit in your lakeview home, or your Wicker Park apartment all day, of course you know nothing of the reality that we are faced with on a daily basis. They don't know that hundreds of agg batt to po cases occur regularly. They couldn't possibly know of the broken bones, black eyes, endless cuts and bruises, exposure to HIV infected blood, and the sleepless nights we have gone through replaying some potentially deadly situations we've been in in our heads all night while we attempt to get some sleep.
And why does this happen? Because there is an overwhelming sense of lawlessness in these ghetto neighborhoods thanks to liberals telling everyone it's ok to fight the police and point guns at police. So why do we do this job? Because all these liberal police haters don't have the balls to do it. We know this. They have grown bored with protesting the war in Iraq, so now it's time to move on to the trendiest liberal propoganda that they heard about at the local Starbucks.
I could easily say "stop calling the police if you hate us so much", but it would fall on deaf ears. Keep crying! Tell the world how unjust the police are. Then when your daughter or sister or girlfriend gets attacked on the way home from a bar, or your car gets stolen, or worst of all...when the ghetto population starts moving into your neighborhood to live in their mandatory Section 8 housing next door to your million dollar home...call us! Then sit scared in your house peering out from behind your blinds, waiting for the police to come save you from the big bad criminal....just keep waiting....I'm sure someone will show up....
In the defense of the 80% not on the extremes, you guys have to understand the volume of stuff they hear about you, your leadership, your bosses, and the general environment in which you work.
Even 10% of the police-officer-specific new being about corruption, violence, and other illegal/untoward conduct is enough to leave a dirty taste in the mouths of those in the middle. And look around.
You have Sneed reporting that your super has no business being there. Oh, and the papers reporting that Daley himself nixed your previous nos. 3 and 4 (now nos. 2 and 3). You have an undending string of indictments and videos of current and former CPD. The mob trial has ex and retired CPD in several places.
And the thing is, you guys on here are constantly sniping at each other too (in many cases justifiably). So why would you expect the public generally to have a good viewpoint of the CPD generally.
The thing is, there ain't really any good thats going to come about from being defensive about it. Why not just try and be the best person you can every day, and fuck whatever anyone else things.
Fuck the stereotypes too. You think every black guy appreciates the widely-held stereotypes embodied all-too-often by people in the ghetto? Likewise the Jews, the Irish, women, gay people, Asians, Hispanics, Cubs fans, or whatever? No. Nobody likes to be stereotyped, but everybody seems to do it.
So why not just go out there and try to have fun, keep a smile on your face and, when you get the chance, try and make yourself a little less scary to the citizens out there who you really don't think should view you as monsters?
I know a lot of you guys already do this. There are a lot of POs who go out of their way to present a friendly face to the public. Maybe if everyone tried to do a little more of that and a little less growling, maybe then you wouldn't see so much of this perception in the public of an us-versus-you attitude.
