Uh... Did We Miss Something?

  • Charges have been dismissed against a teenager who was allegedly involved in a crash following a fight in Durkin Park in July. The 15-year-old driver did not appear in court as scheduled Friday because his case was heard on Thursday-- and all the traffic citations were dismissed at that time.

That news was a surprise to the Flavin and Valdez families, whose teenagers were injured in the incident in Durkin Park on Chicago's Southwest Side last month.

Evidently, no one wants to explain anything:
  • The state's attorney's office would not speak with ABC7 Chicago on camera. However, spokesperson John Gorman said on the telephone that the traffic citations were filed by Chicago police, and the state's attorney's office decided those charges should be dropped. The reason was not disclosed in open court, and Gorman would not say.

The spokesperson added, however, that everything that happened July 14th remains under investigation, and he would not rule out future criminal charges being filed.

Nothing like releasing the info on a Friday though since it's sure to fade away in long holiday weekend news cycle.

One of the kids hit by car was called for the second time by the state and police/dicks and hate crimes. Every one is getting reinterviewed because Darren O'Brien doesnt believe the accusations of the victims that the boy from Mississippi wasnt provoked first. They keep asking about what occurred with a black man and a black child riding around park on bikes.

Political hot potato with Daley, Devine and Starks.

Most victims parents with common sense will not allow the kids to be reinterviewed, threat of grand jury etc. The offender is back safely in Mississsippi thanks to the states attorneys office.

I've got close to 10 years on now and have taken a couple promotional exams. I graduated from a pretty damn good university but these tests they give are just so odd that it seems almost impossible to pass, without a little help from your chinaman. So needless to say i'm still a beat guy. I've worked pretty hard my whole career in a southside district and what i'm asking you guys is 'what is my incentive to really go out and hustle and work hard anymore?' It's really gotten me no where. I feel without having any clout you really can't move around much and tact/gang in my district is for the birds. So lately i've been slowly realizing that the guys that have no clout and just come to work, answer their jobs and go home might be on to something. There is really no incentive for an average joe copper like me to do anything proactive anymore at all. What you guys think? They need to come up with some kind of reward system for the cop that goes out there and really works. It's just not fair that i'm getting paid the same as the absolute dog one beat over.

Westside handwaivers dont even bother cause I will not waste one moment on you, just let me continue to my lunch location. Point is as long as the city doesnt want you to work, Im not doing a dam thing ever. Actually it has made my day even better cause the only time I get out of the beat car is to get my coffee, take lunch and respond to a fellow officer when in need of help. This is not the first time spokesperson John Gorman has revealed the CCSA's office dropping the ball:

14/09/2006 13:34

Chicago - Prosecutors dropped all charges against a man who said an airport security guard misunderstood him when she thought he said a sexual device in his backpack was really a bomb.

Mardin Amin, who appeared in a Cook County circuit court on Wednesday, has said he actually told the female security guard at O'Hare International Airport last month that the small, black object was a "pump" - as in a penis pump.

Prosecutors chose to follow the lead of the transportation safety administration, which recently concluded that the matter did not warrant prosecution, said Cook County state's attorney spokesperson John Gorman.

I've got well over a thousand career Part I felony arrests, have the respect of my peers and for better or worse, test extremely well (if the exam is legit). This means absolutely nothing on this wretched, clout-infested job.

Fuck the City of Chicago!

You can be dumb as a box of rocks on this job with only a few, if any, decent arrests and still get to the top--that is, if your wish to avidly and figuratively (in some cases, even literally) SUCK COCK. Clout and nepotism have run amok.

If you have any opportunity to sue the bejesus out of this city, GO FOR IT!

Trust me. The silent media knows the truth. Apathetic Chicagoans will get the police force they truly deserve.

They don't care! I was lucky enough to have fell through the cracks and made Sergeant without any "help", but I also realize that at least 50% of us had "merit" or some other form of "assistance". Watching how the Lt. promotion process works, I see that they need to get all their boys and girls in at this level, and will manipulate the testing process until the results are what they want.
That doesn't even touch upon the frustration of seeing do-nothings and morons getting in all the good unit spots or bosses who have seen all of three periods in patrol waking around barking orders. Our interim Superintendent has a G.E.D. for Christ-sake.
The powers that be have killed morale on this job for 95% of us in order to take care of the connected 5%. Do your job but don't go out on a limb for this Department because their is no reward.

Brother it has taken you ten years to figure this out? Shame on you....nothing is fair on this job and until the department figures out a way put some reward infront of the beat officer (they will not) the patrol division will always be filled with the have nots of CPD. If you dont realize that from day one in the suit you are in for a rude awakening some day or maybe ten years down the road. Bid to a slow district and wait for one of your buddies who climbs to bring you in their unit or cultivate some clout.

Any cop from Chicago knows this would not happend like you said...Instead, the savages would have pulled out the white driver and beat him/her within an inch of their life, or jus plain beat him/her to death.

The PacMan Bites the Dust:

Police attempted to arrest a man suspected of drug possession in the 3900 block of West Van Buren Street about 11:15 a.m., police News Affairs Officer John Henry said. When officers approached the man, he ran away.

A foot-chase ensued and the man swallowed plastic bags allegedly filled with drugs and began convulsing, Henry said.

Officers called for emergency assistance when the man began convulsing, but he eventually died, according to Henry, who said police are conducting a death investigation.

If you've got one hand on the wheel and another pressing a phone against your head, you better steer clear of Officer Ramon Solidum. He doesn't want to brag, but he considers himself the "super cop" of Chicago's cell-phone ban.

Two years after Chicago outlawed the use of hand-held cell phones while driving, police officers are issuing more citations than ever, and Solidum is leading the pack.

I would not be discouraged if I were you. You do not need a china man to make it on the list. From your post and what you present as your background, I would assume that you a fairly smart individual. However, being smart alone will not guarantee you to pass the test. I made the last detective's test and the last sergeant's test. I scored between 150 and 200 on both tests.
I would encourage you to go to the free study groups (Rizzi/Camacho is a good one) and Bernstein if you have the money. Additionally, you need to start studying about 8 months to 1 year before the test takes place. If you put in one to two hours a day on average, you should do ok.

Best of luck

I think that maybe the injured adult and parents of the injured juveniles ought to start asking the feds to look at this. As all of you know that is what is done by the citizens of this city whenever a police officer is involved in a killing or shooting. Maybe the shoe should be on the other foot and let these clowns deal with the feds as suspects and not victims. This makes me sick that even the traffic charges were dropped. One of the injured adults has had major surgery and has a long road to recovery ahead of her. This is typical of the States Attorneys office try to tarnish the victim or witness or both and no charges due to mutual combatants. I have called it felony pretrial and not felony review for years just because of that tactic employed on a daily basis. They just don't get it that sometimes what you've got is what you've got and you may just have to deal with it and do the right thing.

SCC,
Was Deputy Keating attacked by members of Critical Mass lastnight, this is being reported on Honorable Star.

Anonymous said...
So it's true a Deputy was jumped protecting both Daleys adobe and his lucky neighbors from Critical Mass's ride down Indiana last night. Why were so many let go after the assault and altercation, what about that kick and back attack? What kind of message is the Mayor sending? Was this because the Deputy is a Daley made guy. Great leadership were all doomed. These are not leaders you would want to follow into battle.

.... All this dept. wants is event numbers, so get the wolfpack, outdoor roll call, CTA station, DOC, DOC mission, open hydrant, DIBS, housing, park check, homeland security critical facility, inclement weather, POD mission, sealtbelt mission event numbers and go home to the family.

Psstt....you don't even have to get event numbers...you don't have to do anything on this job. Pass it on.

Off topic,
I've got close to 10 years on now and have taken a couple promotional exams.

Kid, with 10 years on I would have thought you would know the answer to this already. If you come to work, go home, and back to work just because you think you may get a promotion or something from the department you are going to be a very bitter person... The answer to your question is that you come to work and do a good job because thats YOU. You do what you do and let the chips fall where they may. If you let outside influences bother you it will eat you up and effect your health, marriage, and friends. Be YOU, Do what you DO and in the end, THINGS ALWAYS WORK OUT FOR THOSE THAT TAKE CARE OF THE LITTLE THINGS AND DO GOOD WORK.

Chris Himel, suffered a gunshot wound at the 1500 block of North Maplewood Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. An autopsy Friday determined Himel, of an unknown home address, died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Himel was with two friends, also in their 20s and riding bicycles, coming home from eating in the area of Western and North avenues when the shooting occurred, according to an Albany Park District police lieutenant.

Why is a 17th District Lieutenant commenting on a 14th District shooting?

9/01/2007 04:18:00 PM

----------------------------------

that had to be an error on the news part. they also ended it with "as of 11pm there was no one in custody." The shooting happened at 3am.

When you get 13-15 years on you will be stuck because you won't be able to afford to quit and cheapen your pension, plus it may be hard for you to find another $80,000 job like this that you can't lose in the private sector.

Ah, the boys downtown are back to their old tricks. Back fefore Operation Graylord, this was a common tactic by the corrupt Judges and ASA's. They would call a case off key, never notify the PO and the case would just disapear. The poor beat copper ( the honest ones ) were left to try and explain to the victims what happened. If the PO tried to find out, he was "counseled" by a boss and told to shut up. Yep, the old days are back again!

God help us all if Bob Milan is voted in as States Attorney. Ask Bob how he fucked up the Ralston Homicide investigation a few years back. That victim was an elderly female senior citizen living near Bogan H.S. who got home invaded. You really overstepped your duty that day. Nice Job on that one Bob!! Also, you looked so stoic, all fucked up drunk on the news a few weeks ago, bitching about Barry Bonds with your dumbass t-shirts. That video clip alone should keep you from winning the election. Fucking Cub Fan!

MAYBE, just maybe, the "Albany Park" Lt. was the acting W/C in 014 the night of the shooting.
They are loaned out quite a bit, you know; 017 and 014 ARE both in Area 5, so it's definitely plausible.

My best guess is, the kid was saying that he was in fear of being attacked by a mob of white males, and the state felt they would be hard pressed to refute that. I wasn't there, but that's what I would say (and could very well have been the case). The fact that he remained on the scene and didn't run away worked in his favor too.

13,749 personnel are presently paying into the CPD pension.

People who continue to insist that there are less officers on the payroll are delusional.

9/01/2007 08:08:00 PM

That is because not all personnel paying into the pension fund are sworn members!!!!

Go to the CPD internet. You can get a roster of all pay codes.
Than you will see how many "P.O.'s"
code 9161 we realy have.

Add up the numbers from every rank and you will see we are not even close to 13,600..

Fran was famous for her sock inspections in academy. She would make entire recruit class stand at attention outside her office window during their lunch break because one recruit wore fadded black socks. What an example of a leader.

Its double standerds today. You will never see black offenders of any incident being charged with a hate crime. Not in Chicago, not ever. Heres a shocking twist to my comment, I happen to be a black P.O. who is assigned to a west side district. Not a African American or colored. I'm just a educated black man trying to lead a simple life. Politics is the reason why the full extent of the law can't and won't be carried out. Because you have too many "so called" reformers like Sharpten and Jackson coming to our city and telling or administrators how to run it and making a mockery out of the system. The law should be carried out equally. Thank god I'm retiring soon.
