In light of reports that everyone and their brother is talking to the feds in a desperate attempt to cut deals to avoid prison, it seems the big name himself is talking.
Channel 5 is reporting a plea deal with Finnigan and he's naming BIG names.
What has he got to offer? Probably who moved him around to different units in an effort to quash investigations. Maybe who got money? Retired names along with active bosses? Links to follow when available.

Off topic: just a thought concerning the Officer jailed in Iowa; leaflet the Northwestern/Iowa game, asking everybody attending to chant "FREE OFFICER METTE" throughout the half time period-maybe 30 minutes-get as many off duty police and fire as one may know and SHOW UP and STAY UNTIL HALFTIME!! A copy of the Kass article would work for the leaflet. Just a thought-----but I think it could work.

Unless Finnegan can give up an unsolved murder what good is he? The state and feds have either said publicly, or implied through charges that he's purely a criminal with a badge. So what if he moved from Patrol to Gangs South to 7 Tact to SOS to Midway to 8 tact, then back to SOS. If you move from one unit to another any pending cr numbers aren't just forgotten because you no longer work in the unit you got them in. Bosses loved him because he brought in a lot of guns and dope. They moved him around as favors. So what? Where is the crime in that. Unless he's got big bosses, not just a Sgt or Lt, on video taking money from him, he's no good to anyone. He wanted to kill fellow police officers! What credibility does he have now? He's facing life in prison! He'll tell the feds anything they want to hear. Bosses moving guys from unit to unit aint against the law. And I'm not defending Finnegan. I just don't see how a guy who only one month ago wanted to kill up to six police officers has any credibility at all.

No exempt members will even hear of this for the fact that the feds and everyone knows that the exempts may be in charge of the units, but any cr numbers that are brought down on there officers are handled by the sgts and lts. the sgts and lts then follow up on the crs and only thing the commanders get is the outcome and recomendations. no criminal charges can come to an exempt for making a recomendation. if the bosses, lts or exempts were not caught "red handed" on tape or video then this will go nowhere. you cannont convict someone based on the fact that a gangster with a badge said so. dont forget.. these days you need a little something other than a mans word.. its called proof.

Who signed off on all of the CR#'s without penalty? Who signed off on hundreds of court deviations without penalty? Who lied on investigations such as the tavern incident on video? lot of money was involved. Do not fool yourself. Exempts are just as guilty. Ignore criminal acts because he produced high numbers? The commander knew his unit and what was happening.
Finnegan will be named Superintendant next week, with Suchocki as his First Deputy. You heard it here first. Everybody who knows Jerry knows they always bring him back. Congrats Jerry!

here is where the supervisors might have a problem....if you know an officer has behavioral issues or numerous cr#'s for his or her behavior and you, as the supervisor, allow this person to continue working the street or area where all the issues of behavior occurred...are you as the supervisor culpable? i believe there is case history of supervisors being held accountable for very similar situations.

Well , I called-now lets hope everyone else does. I kept them on the phone for about 5 minutes asking technical questions. It was actually very satisfying especially when I asked what they would do in a situation like that-they had no answer. They told me that Mike Mette would have to file for commutation with the Governor himself. I asked if the Governor has tried to help Mette as I am sure he has with other criminals. I say criminals because that is how Officer Mette is being treated. Too bad Mette is not black.

............Not all of those beefs would have been handled by one of his supervisors. At least half (I'm guessing) would have been handled by OPS or IAD............hmmmmmm. There may be no criminal charges to bring against any higher ups, BUT if it can be shown that Supervisors knew, should have known or ignored signs, patterns etc... then they can be hammered by the Dept. If and only if the Dept. wants to discipline Bosses, which is unlikely since they are clout whores anyways. The G can go after those in command of IAD SOS etc... if they can show that these bosses turned any eye to this corruption and were derelict in their duties to step in and take action. Also if they can prove a conspiracy by these exempts to in fact do nothing when all the signs were there that there was a big problem like various court deviations, CR#'s with the same allegations, etc....
Remember the paper trail is the court deviations, CR#s, and case reports, arrest reports. This will be key to proving a corrupt group of officers who were somehow protected from the rules and regulations of the CPD. Every Deviation is signed off on by a Supervisor and all the way up the chain.

The gentleman said they have received a lot of calls but do not have jurisdiction. The only way they would become involved is if the DOJ launched a civil rights investigation. I'm guessing Mette's attorneys will have to await the ruling on appeal before that could be done.

Father Nangle is one of the most honorable people on this department. Just because he is not public in his works, does not mean that he does nothing. I know for a fact that he has given support to Mette. I know for a fact he has supported officers who are in prison and some even communicate with him. First, the FEDS would have never taken this case if it wasn't all tied up with a bow...period. Second, Finnigan's attny probably let the leak out, not the FEDS. Third, yes, maybe no Lt. or Cmdr. has ever gone down on something like this, but we are living in a new generation where this can and probably will happen. Our police dept. is being governed by the liberals, media, revs and lawyers, not the police. There will be more going down on this and not just po's.
It was the administration's responsibility to put a stop to Finnigan's behavior and they didn't....how many court deviations and cr#'s can one man have without causing some concern? The President of the US, congressman,and even Daley could probably get away with "I didn't know it was happening". But how could managers who work in the same building not know? How many people in their command? We aren't talking in the thousands here, maybe a few hundred.
Look at George Ryan, corrupt politician extrodinaire, he claimed ignorance, but the public didn't buy it. Ignorance and the "duh I didn't know" answer isn't going to fly anymore. My Friend, I'm showing my age when I tell you that the slum times has been substandard since murdock of Australia took the paper over in the early early 80's. Prior to that a story like this would not have recieved any mention within the first 8 pages. The trib is only slightly better, with emphasis on slightly. If you still buy or subscribe to the rag of the slum times you are financing yellow journalism.
I have canceled my subscription to the Sun Times about a month ago, I hope everyone is smart enough to do the same.

For everybody that thinks I was wrong about the conspiracy to commit murder charges being dropped, if you know anything about the job whats going on now seems like a pretty good prelude to that happening. Jerry Finnigan according to the paper is making a deal. Now, what do you think he might be dealing for? Whats the major charge? What would get him the most time? Did you really think it was going to happen overnight? I only admit that I didn't know it was going to happen because of a deal. I still believe it is going to happen. Why is Father Nangle being bashed? Who cares how much he makes. You don't know what he does. He was there for me and my team after 9-11 and I was the only Catholic. He said what we needed to hear. I wrote an experience that happened to me yesterday at a gas station by my house. My post was written between 1130pm - 1230 am. I really am disappointed that it was not published. It had total relevance and allot of other officers could relate. After reading some of these other thoughtless posts that are getting past your editing crew im really upset because I was sharing a real experience. We were the best, and it felt good to have the confidence that some of the departments best coppers and bosses were at our side. I had some of the best lauphs, and memories that I will ever have on the job because of the characters that were up on that notorious 3rd floor. What has happened to the CPD??? When I joined years ago it was because I wanted to be the POLICE. I worked hard, made tons arrests, lost a lot of friends and had unbelievebale experiences both good and bad. Back in the day we used to say that "It was Them against Us"; now it seems to be "Us against Us."
Manpower shortages, b.s. promotion lists, inadequate pay & old equipment; it sounds like the CPD I knew and loved. All those things made the job worth doing and it seemed like the worse District you worked in the more you had to be proud of.
The issues aren't new just the people. If you're doing this job for anything other then "to do the job" you're cheating yourself. If you're not happy go out and get the job that will make you happy, if you want more money get a job that pays more, if you hate the organization then try to help change it.
When I took this job I didn't even know how much it payed? I loved the job and will always have good memories of the CPD. Don't be bitter, be the Police; it's more then just wearing a Star and carrying a pistol.
Regarding Father Nagle: As a Catholic I spend a lot time questioning my religion and can say I don't look at Priests now like I did as a kid. However, I will never look ill upon Fr. Nagle. He was there for me twice; once after I shot a person in 015 (when you went back to work the next day) and once when I was fighting with a Gangbanger near the 1000 S. Cicero. Fr. Nagle actually helped me cuff the Offender.
In the service we used to say that "there are no athiests in a foxhole." In the CPD there is no such thing as a Non-Catholic when a PO needs Fr. Nagle's help.
