The Truth is Despicable
- Reverend Jesse Jackson Friday night is again pushing for change at the Chicago Housing Authority's Harold Ickes Homes. He says police continue to harass public housing residents there.
- William "J.R." Hope is one man who claims to be the repeated victim of police harassment. Hope says he was unlawfully strip searched by police, and just Thursday his car was towed from a lot at the Ickes Homes.
- But Chicago police say Hope is not a resident at the Harold Ickes Homes, and he and others who have had run-ins with officers have extensive criminal records including drug convictions, and are known to be involved with the drug and gang activity in the area.
Jackson calls the disclosure of the information despicable.
Yup, when the truth of the matter is exposed and it makes Jesse look bad, that's despicable.
Kind of like when our readers pointed out that the family he stayed with the other night happens to be related to some of the biggest dope dealers in the Ickes. Or when it's pointed out that the "community spokesperson" in North Lawndale happens to be one of the highest ranking vice lords on the west side with a rap sheet longer than your arm.
Maybe if Jesse didn't spend so much time cavorting with criminals... but then, birds of a feather we suppose.

Has this city lost its mind? I dare any one of the news media to look up the criminal history of those screaming police harassment. They are nothing but gang banging, wouldn't want to hold a job, thug, drug pushers and users. The police go in there and attempt to clean up this hell hole and the real problem,(dope pushers and users) cry harassment. Well jesse jackASS, may this be the end of you and any credibility you may have left with the ones you've been able to scam. But all the others know you have nothing left.
Its about fucking time somebody in news affairs starts telling the public the truth. Instead of letting them show onesided reports about alleged police misconduct this time the Department actually took a stand and stuck up for itself and its officers.

I am not police, but I am a curious member of the citizenry. I am assuming SCC is a reasonably intelligent, articulate member of the force because he certainly thinks he carries that mantle. Having recently attained 70 years of age, I am no naive observer of the city around me but I do believe 'where there is smoke there's fire' as regards the activities of SOS and other officers. I really filter the Jesse Jacksons and 'mope-rahs' of the world but I do believe there are bad cops out there. The question for people like me is how to tell who is good and who is bad. It's too bad the perception is there, but it is. And it wasn't all put there by asshats and generally ignorant people like me. How do we tell?

The other day, the Suntimes does an article characterizing the Ickes as having only 200+ units leased of 900+ units total, and quoting a CHA spokesperson as saying they aren't sure whether or not Ickes is gonna come down or get rehabbed.
A day or two later, the Tribune does an article characterizing the Ida B. Wells homes as coming down.
There are homes on the market for 400K+ south of Cermak, north of 47th, and east of the Ryan.
You kids wondering about where to buy a home should be looking at everything between downtown and Garfield, east of the Ryan. If those two projects are moved out, there is very little ghetto left in this area.
Its gentrifying, integrating (racially) and draining of the ghetto. Daley just (finally!) got the Pacific Gardens at 6th and State to move west of the River even.
So you tell me, if Ickes and Ida B. Wells go without pure public housing replacement, than what is left in this area?
Plus, its on the lake, bordered by the U. of C. and Washington Park on the South, you can send your kids to De La Salle or Mt. Carmel until the public schools come back (racial bussing just got outlawed by the Supreme Court last year, no?)...
Again, you tell me. Are you gonna fight the trend and try holding onto Mt. Greenwood or Hedgewich as the herd stompeded towards and over you? Or are you going to ride the trend, and live in what is probably the best area to live in in Chicago once the ghetto is gone. All new construction.
Hell, I'm gonna bet that within 6 years an alderperson for that area is gonna be ex-CPD.
Just a few thoughts.
Ickes is dead. Ida B. Wells is dead. You think Daley wants the world to see these projects in the backyard of his olympic bid?

You know, if they'd arrested the white kid who took the shotgun out of his car and charged him with mob action, rather than arresting the black kids who disarmed him for "theft of his gun", the authorities in Jena never would have become world famous racists.

How do we tell?? If you have attained the age of 70 as you say in your post and still can not tell what is real and what is bullshit perhaps you are more naive than you think...to judge anything look at the end results...the police department...all in all has what end result for the citizens....do you sleep soundly in your bed at night knowing that help is no more than a phone call away...and that rough men stand ready to defend your right to walk this earth unmolested? The media frenzy has what effect on the citizens....does it feed your family...does it allow you to walk undisturbed down the streets on a summer night? What does the media produce?? Chaos....it sells its papers and its reward is money....what has Jesse Jackson and his ilke produced for the citizens of Chicago?? Has he fed your familys ...adopted your poor and taken your homeless and given them a home ...can you walk down the streets at night knowing that you are safe from harm because of the likes of Jesse and company?? How to tell the good from the bad?? Look at the end result....
