Sometimes it's hard to know what to think. For instance, in Wednesday's edition of the Philadelphia Inquirer, there was a detailed account of a controversy related to the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ronald Timbers. The Timbers shooting is another police incident in which the slain teen's relatives are claiming officers should not have used deadly force.
Timbers, a young black male, was at home and apparently out of control -- threatening his mother with a hammer, a knife and an iron when she called 911 for help.
Police officers claim that the 15-year-old repeatedly charged at them with the iron before a police officer fatally shot him.
His mother, Yvonne Young, and the teen's older brother, Cornell Young, claimed that the police officer shot his brother "from downstairs," and that the officers never asked Timbers to put the iron down. Another relative claims that although the mother was under attack, she had not wanted to call police.
Indeed, what we need most in these neighborhoods are well-trained police officers who have a great deal of compassion

Why does a segment of our population expect society ie. Police, Teachers, City, State, Federal Goverment to take care off all the failings of their community?

My brother who is not a cop, once called the cops to his house because his old german shepard was acting nuts in the yard and would snap at even my brother when he went towards it. Up til this point in the odgs life it was a great calm gentle pet. The old timer cop showed up and was told of the situtation.
The cop told my brother and his family to wait in the house and he walked to the yard via the front gangway. A few minutes later my brother and family heard two loud gun shots. My brother ran to the yard to see what happened and his dog was laying on the grass, fatally wounded with two head shots.
He looked at the old time cop and said, You killed my dog. The old time cop said, I am very sorry but you called the police not a vet. And this is what we do.
The cop then said, think on the bright side, I saved you about $100.00 bucks for the same results the vet would of did.
The cop then went back to the squad and left.
PS My brother never beefed on him and knew in the long run that the cop was right.
A few days later my brother found a baby german shepard with a ribbon and bow around his neck in his yard and figured the old time cop put it there but could never prove it.

I have said it before and I will say it again, when a cop tells you to stop, STOP! It is not a hard concept to understand, if it comes between someone harming me or me harming them, guess which one I'm going to chose.

Cops are trained to use force. That is mostly what they do. If you call a cop to an altercation, it is because you expect that force will be needed. Once you call for a cop, you lose some right to complain about the level of force used.
If you wanted someone to come pray over your little darling, call a priest.
The bottom line is she DID call the police because she couldn't control her son. He was a threat to her and she feared enough for her wellbeing to call the police for help. The police helped. They perceived a threat and delt with it accordingly.
Hey Mope-rah, I hope you never need help. If you find yourself in such a dangerous situation...call your editor. Don't bother the police with your personal BS.

Fear for your life?! I don't recall ever hearing someone getting beat to death with an iron. Not to say that it couldn't happen, but you'd really have to be a sissy. I don't think there is a jury in the world (even an ALL white jury) that's going to say that this shooting was justified.
The woman called for help. Clearly the man was mentally ill if he was attacking his mother to begin with - it's common sense. I'm sure the guy deserved a beating or a nice tazing, but the officer didn't have to use deadly force! Really now, think about it. He had a night stick, big ass flash light, pepper spray, FISTS, maybe a tazer. Worst case scenario, the PO might have taken a bruise on the arm trying to block the attack. He should be fired if he was in fear of his life. You don't need bitches out on patrol.

I Came on this job with compassion and when I saw first hand the stupidity and hate that many in society has for the police I lost not only my compassion but the drive to go the extra mile. I'm not writing this angry because I truly don't care what people think anymore. Although I go out honest and humble I know I don't want this job anymore and I plan on returning to a private sector life to make more money. People tend to forget the sacrifice we make everyday. 40,000-60,000 a year is decent money for a job but consider being shot at only once in your career or attacked by a deranged arrestee and you have to think twice. What is forgotten, and I don't hate the southside I've lived in the city on the southside my whole life,is the rising taxes,both property and others, along with having to pay a lot for a house that needs work,paying for private school because of the rising danger and sinking,distracted education my kids would get in CPS, Poor insurance we now are receiving and constant scrutiny we are under by people who have no commonsense but somehow have a voice,it really isn't that good. I feel that we are political pawns who are pushed off a cliff by anyone that can when ever they can and that people are so afraid of losing their rights they forget who is the bad guy. I would never put a person I thought was innocent in jail,whats the point in that? What people need to remember is that a police department is a reflection of society and mostly a good reflection. But I guess the best way to convince a jury, not even summonsed yet, is to have a colorful "leader" or lawyer preach to a camera how they are wrongly accused or mistreated by the system or as of late the police, its actually a smart move and an investment in the future, its a commercial on the news and its free! oh well its time to fake it for another day.

Oh grasshopper....you have to understand, on this job we have clout babies...they come in all ranks. These are the people who are promoted because of merit,(ok laughing at that one,merit has never been defined,but they have it)can do no wrong,get the good assignments and are never touched. They DID arrest her. She now claims that she overheard a student say there was a gun involved. She just won her lawsuit for false arrest. Our society is doomed.

And if you didn't have the balls to record this racist Sgt's actions on your case report and arrest report, shame on you. Then you could call IAD when the WC refused to sign or better yet when the WC told you to change your report you could get a CR number and report it to the FBI.
You have power over supervisors if you have the balls to use it.
We have to take back control.
Follow every rule and reg to the letter and immediately get CRs on supervisors who give the slightest resistance.
Eg. Desk sgts have to watch juvenile arrestees until a parent/youth dick arrives, so you can get back on the street. Bring him the kids, tell them to sit on his desk, and when he cries go to the WC get a CR#. When the WC tells you not to get one on the Sgt, get one on the WC. After two months every supervisor in the city should have over 50 CRs.
Any tinge of racial/sex discrim immediately call the EEOC and file a complaint.
Every PO should file a lawsuit against the City at least once per year.
Call a sgt to every single job and ask for advice. Only make an arrest if they give an order.
Turn every single 911 into a major incident. On every missing call a Plan. On every TVB inventory every single thing in the car including the spare tire, which should completely fill ERPS inside a month.
We control this job, we can shut down this city, we can allow chaos to rule...We just have to all do it at the same time.

022nd district, specifically beats 2211 & 2212, has been under attack by robbers and burglars the last week. Naturally, none of the offenders are home grown. That's right! They are young black males who are attempting to prey on the neighborhood. (I know, I know, I'm a racist...too fucking bad!!! I speak the truth!!!) Add an idiot sergeant to the mix and there will soon be a march on the 022nd district station.
Fuck. There ought to be a march anyway because the huge tax base isn't getting police service.
Let's see some traffic stops and contact cards instead of a slow response after the crimes are committed.

im a little surprised that the death and courage of a police family has not been more acknowledged on here...i send my condolences to the Heard family and my thanks for raising a young man who would try to intervene to help someone else in these dangerous times...you law men do this every day and i also thank you all for your service..and my sincere sympathies for having to endure the fallout from these few,,very few bad apples...

What hand to hand tactics? Not true. At academy, recruits are lucky to receive basic defense tactics. The focus is running not fighting. Must run recruits every day and if there is time, teach some very basic tactics. Eliminate the threat but not with hands.

From what I understand a CR was initiated for what that Sgt. did.
Maybe we should all get together and protest the awarding of more than a million to that lying principal. As long as we sit back and take it, it will keep happening. Every other shmoow who makes a bogus 911 call gets arrested and some actually get charged, no money awarded so why did it happen now. who is she connected to. Who could we write to regarding this or what news reporter will listen to us? I am no fan of Lt EG but she is not in the wrong here. I would back her on this all the way.

Oh wow a racist cop in 022 this is so unheard of. Give me a fucking break, 022 is one of the most segregated districts there is. Blacks sit on one side in roll call, whites on the other and those who can't figure out where they belong just stand in the back. Please save the race baiting bullshit for another day. Sad to say you are absolutely right.......the shortcuts we take are those that enable us to do our jobs more effectively.......STOP taking short cuts.........do everything by the book.....by the way next time you stop mamma with a boat load iof kids without car seats.........and no DL or insurance call out that Sgt. to take those kids into the station.........this job could be fun again....an empire brought to its knees by its own policies............interesting.....
