Marathon Cover Up?
We've also heard that this is especially true of the Office of the Cook County Medical Examiner, a political position owed to various factions of the Chicago and County Machines. Never was this more obvious when a former M.E. (Donahue we think) declared that a TASER had caused the death of a offender leading to the inevitable "wrongful death" lawsuit. Harder to explain was that the dead offender had a level of methamphetamine over twice the lethal threshold. We never trusted a Cook County M.E. to begin with - this just reinforced the lesson.
Now you have an anonymous M.E. responding to not just one, but TWO cardiologists who think the heat just might have had a little bit to do with the Marathon death:
The doctor who performed an autopsy on the Michigan police officer who died during the Chicago Marathon said Tuesday she's certain heat had nothing do with Chad Schieber's death.
"He didn't have a documented elevated body temperature," said the Cook County medical examiner's office staffer, who asked not to be named. "That's very important when you're going to put 'heat stress' on a death certificate."
The doctor was responding to comments from two Chicago cardiologists who publicly questioned the autopsy results. In a published report Tuesday, the cardiologists said heat must have been a contributing factor in Schieber's death.
