The marathon fiasco is all over the news, lets put the heat back on the police dept.
The credit for this belongs to two fellows who are no longer with us; Terry Hillard and Phil Cline.
Hillard placed Frank Radtke and Jim Darling in-charge of SOS and Cline kept Radtke and moved in Matt Tobias in-place of Darling.
Neither Hillard or Cline wanted a strong disciplinary system and that is why they placed weaklings in-charge of IAD and OPS. Then they micro managed their handpicked stooges to ensure they did nothing. Who in their right mind would place Nate Gibson in-charge of anything?
We will end up with the Federal government running the Chicago Police Department as a result.

Would like to inform you that Officer Richard Clarks ( killed in the line of duty 1985) 40 year old son passed away and is being waked on Wednesday, 10 Oct 07 at Glueckert Funeral Home located at 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road from 3pm until 9pm.
FYI: Expect long delays at central detention tonight. 1st district arrests always take precendent over outside arrests coming into the lock-up. From what I saw on the 4;30 news, there are least 30 criminal trespass to state supported land offenders at the Ickes tonight. Do we still have authority to arrest criminal offenders or were those removed along with SOS. This city is a joke!
The are only changing the named from: Son's of Supervisors (SOS) to Kids of Baby Daddy's Supervisor (KOBDS) on behalf of Dana Starks.

I agree there are some good police officers that have no clout but eventually they're noticed and taken care of. It may take a little longer but it still gets done. I guess if you have clout you are not and will never be a good police officer according to you. Who was responsible for JF? Why did MT tolerate the CR#'s and corruption? So much for ethics. They are getting close to management. Two sgts stripped and waiting for feds to call them. One LT might loose his pension. Soo the dam will break and they will tumble down.

Perhaps you can relate the numbers of all the P.O., Sergeants, LTs etc that are coming into the districts.

SOS and all districts have been disbanded. Only desk jobs at headquarters will be continued.
All officers have been absorbed under the Digsby Security Company.
Immediately go to your alderthing's office with your envelope, pick up your security dog, and get on the bus.

Off topic:
P.O. gets off work and picks up his son. He and his son go shopping and run a few errands. P.O. goes home and forgets to take his wallet and gun from the glove box. Half hour later his son uses his car to make a quick trip to the store. Not gone more than 2o mins. While exiting the vehicle to go back into his home approximate 50 feet away hes stopped by 8th district in regards to a call of shots being fired. The person who made the call sees this and informs the officers that this in not the person who fired the shots. Ignoring this information the officers proceed to detain the kid and search the vehicle. Finding the gun in the glove box the take the kid into custody. While doing so the kid tells the officers that his father is a P.O. and informs them that he must have left the gun in the car. The kid never knew it was there. Not caring the officers lock him up anyway and charge him with UUW. Upon finding out the P.O. immediately comes outside to find out whats going on and is brushed off by both the 2 P.O.'s and their Sgt. The P.O. then goes to the 8th dis and is immediately brushed off by the desk Sgt and the W.C. He is made to wait in the lobby while his son is processed. Needless to say ASA denied felony charges. While the P.O. is waiting his son is sitting in an interview room for 5 hours and has yet to be processed. When the P.O. finally leaves the station his son is processed and printed. 6 hours after initial arrest. Oh and by the way they impounded his car. If you think I'm making this up ask anyone in 008.

KH is a shining example of why men should NEVER tweeze or wax their eyebrows. For some unknown reason, Mexican and Muslim men do not follow this rule.
Off topic but even more changes coming soon. The new period starts this Thursday and rumor has it that there may more command changes made that will shock some. its a good point... but darling was probley one of the best bosses i worked for while i was in sos for about 8 years. he didnt take any sh*t from the bosses and definatly not from radke. everyone knows that he kept that unit in check and was a great boss to work for. the reason he was replaced is because he constantly told radke off and was not afraid to tell radke he truly thought about him. radke was the black sheep and the ring leader of sos and all of its troubles. everyone knows that jf was radkes guy and that jf could get away with anything cause radke would always cover it. darling forced jf out of sos because jf had the attituide of not having to listen to his sgts and lts.... but frankie radke just moved jf to the airport and replaced one of the best policeman and best bosses on this job...jimmy d....then of course once darling was out of the picture jf came back to the unit 2 weeks later... jd enjoy retirement boss... im sure youll love it when radke gets mixed up with the feds and the jf scandle.

Starks and all the other bosses alway want to talk about "accountability". Well, why don't they put their foot down and punish the supervisors who were in SOS who either looked the other way or applauded these idiots' antics. They should make Tobias a Field Lieutenant. He knew there was problems and did nothing. No leadership or people skills whatsoever. Only recruits will see him for anything but the joke he is. Demote those who have proven they are incapable instead of lateral moves or hiding them.
Sorry but ending TRU isn't the answer, 320 officers sent back to 25 districts equals 12.8 officers per district, or 4 per watch, wow! that's even if then went to all 025 districts, which they certainly wouldn't, they also would never see days.
Almost all came from busy districts, and would return to them if it did end. What's the difference, they are deployed to the ghetto every night anyway.
There are 33 Sgt spots but only 28 there, that barely one a district.
Ending the unit wont solve anything, here's some ideas that might:
1) hire more people
2) get the more than 600 that are on the medical on any given day back to work, off light duty etc.
3) get the dogs of all the watches to start handling their share, we all know that 10-15% of the people do 90% of the work, it's undeniable.
4) Stop this nonsense event number policing, it's ridiculous already, let the police be the police, not profession event number recorders.
Just a few ideas to start, I have more but i'm only a lowly Sgt. so most above our rank aren't interested in what we think.
Matt Tobias in-place of Darling
You missed Dan Duggan Dan Duggan replaced Darling, who was later replaced by Tobias. Tobias was there as a P.O., Lt. and finally a commander. Ask anyone who worked in SOS when Tobias was there and they will tell you he casued the downfall. He dumped the best Lt. that ever worked there, "The Barran", and replaced him with "Chemical Joe". That should tell you something about his wisdom. Tobias really believes he deserves to be an ADS. As the old saying goes, I know how he made ADS, but how did he ever make patrolman. Is Tobias a bad person? Eveyone has there own opinion. Is he sharp? About as sharp as a marble.
SAME GUYS NEW NAME GIVE IT A COUPLE OF MONTHS.
THE WORD WAS OUT AT THE START OF SUMMER. GO BACK AND LOOK AT THE NAMES THAT BID OUT.
THE DISTRICTS SHOULD GET A FEW PEOPLE DONT EXPECT MUCH.
ITS A SHAME THE DISTRICTS COULD USE THE HELP OH WELL.

sure there was a fuck up in leaving the gun in the glove box, but sorry rogue over zealous CPD assholes, YOU do not have the right to perform a custodial search of a vehicle (and glove box is not included in protective vehicular pat down) on perceived suspicion. Unless the kid was in custody, you violated his rights under the constitution of the United States.

ya know, I see all this pissing and moaning about how the mayor and his efforts to improve this city on various levels is "costing tax payers dollars" and that "wait for the property taxes to go up because the idiot mayor...or the olympics...or the beautification projects..." atleast he's doing things to make this city better. How many millions, or better yet hundreds of millions of dollars have you assholes cost us? How many tax paying dollars have been wasted in lawsuit payouts because of CPD misconduct? Even if half of the lawsuits are bullshit (which from what I have observed over the years having worked in 011, 015, 025, 014, A/4, and narcotics is a conservative number) CPD STILL is responsible for more money than 10 olypics would cost.
Those who live in glass houses need not throw stones. And dont act like this is some shocking statement. Anyone who has worked in this department for over 5 years can attest to the fact that there is probably 100x more situations which would deem a lawsuit than is actually filed. So deem yourselves lucky and realize that this department is FULL of assholes costing this city more money than one could even fathom.
I dont look down at the mayor, or city council, or any one else in city government after being part of this society called the CPD. Want to know why property taxes are on the rise? Take a look in the mirror.
This department is in need of a full make over, and I hope Im still around to see the city clean up, and move on to great things!

If that is really the way it went down, it should have been C.R. on the copper for failing to secure his weapon, and RWOC on the kid.

Please stop using the term Elite Unit when describing the FORMER embarrassing SOS Unit. One of the last questions you were asked when interviewing for the unit was “Who is your sponsor?” Does this sound like a fair question from a Unit that was Elite that was legit and only wanted the best officers?? The phrase fits your quest to make the story sound more interesting but is insulting to the rest of the harder working officers in the city. You will see what bullshit the Unit actually was when all of the crime stats stay the same after they have been disbanded for a year.
SOS is nothing more than two year wonders now anyway. All the good coppers that had time and knew how to police the streets left last year. Anyone left is a newbee with no time! Dump them into districts and give them jobs and backlogs.

If he is not arrested shouldnt CPD be investigated by Lisa Madigan for gross negligence in enforcing state laws? If Jesse decided to sell a pack at Chicago and Lawndale to prove a point would CPD turn the other cheek??? What the fuck is this about? Off topic:
P.O. gets off work and picks up his son. He and his son go shopping and run a few errands. P.O. goes home and forgets to take his wallet and gun from the glove box. Half hour later his son uses his car to make a quick trip to the store. Not gone more than 2o mins. While exiting the vehicle to go back into his home approximate 50 feet away hes stopped by 8th district in regards to a call of shots being fired. The person who made the call sees this and informs the officers that this in not the person who fired the shots. Ignoring this information the officers proceed to detain the kid and search the vehicle. Finding the gun in the glove box the take the kid into custody. While doing so the kid tells the officers that his father is a P.O. and informs them that he must have left the gun in the car. The kid never knew it was there. Not caring the officers lock him up anyway and charge him with UUW. Upon finding out the P.O. immediately comes outside to find out whats going on and is brushed off by both the 2 P.O.'s and their Sgt. The P.O. then goes to the 8th dis and is immediately brushed off by the desk Sgt and the W.C. He is made to wait in the lobby while his son is processed. Needless to say ASA denied felony charges. While the P.O. is waiting his son is sitting in an interview room for 5 hours and has yet to be processed. When the P.O. finally leaves the station his son is processed and printed. 6 hours after initial arrest. Oh and by the way they impounded his car. If you think I'm making this up ask anyone in 008.

TRU is adding a FIFTH platoon of 80 guys. That will make over 400 PO's and 30 sergeants. Most will come from SOS and they must fill out applications. PO's with too many beefs will not be accepted.
TRU will now rotate days and afternoons. Each platoon will work days for a period every fifth month, meaning two months a year.
This is done to keep the federal dollars coming in from Washington, you need so many PO's working during school time to get the cash.
Business as usual and the districts get fucked.

Especially when the copper comes out of his house and informed you that HE had left HIS BADGE AND SNUB in the glove box, and that his son, who has never been arrested before, had no knowledge that these items were in the car. Rather than show that any of the lame assed supervisors in 008 (Sgt., W/C) had just a spoonful of common sense, the copper's son has now been charged with misdemeanor UUW.
What has this job come to? Are there any intelligent supervisors in 008, since the patrolmen out there obviously don't have a clue?

Never worked in SOS but there were many, many, more good guys in SOS than bad guys. They had there share of strokes, but there were a lot of very good, agressive coppers there. Nobody said Englewood was a jagoff district after Corey Flagg and crew were indicted. Give these guys a chance when they arrive in the districts. If you think they are strokes after three or four periods, then fine. A comment about TRU while I'm here. Before one of you gets killed, please think about what you are doing. I'm completely serious. I've seen dozens of TRU cops stop cars over the last two years. A two man TRU unit pulls over a car with 3-4 heads inside. They tell everyone to get out at once. Then one copper starts searching the car immediately while his partner starts patting down 3-4 suspects at the back of the car by himself. It's scary to watch. If any TRU people are reading this, I'm not preaching, but saftey first! Get them out one at a time, pat them down one at a time. Then one of you can search the car if you belive there in contraband inside. It aint going anywhere. Any TRU sgts out there reading this should go over officer safety at roll call. One of these kids is going to get seriously hurt or worse if you don't. I mean it.

I work in 008 and if the story went as you said he wouldn't have gone to jail, period! there must have been more to it plain and simple. Lets get this straight I have no problem working for coppers in their neighborhoods (maybe I haven't been burned enough yet) but this has got to stop most of us came from places like 007,006,005 the old 002 and even from working in, not part of 008 but most of it...this isn't your fathers 008 things have changed BIG TIME. To cop whose kid was arrested in 008:
When your lawyer files your complaint against the city in federal court, name the AOs, the watch commander, and the commander. When corp counsel offers a settlement on behalf of the city it will come on the condition that you drop the suit against the officers. REFUSE, no matter how much they offer. This is a great market for CPD lawsuits.
Your condition of a settlement should come with a personal settlement from each of the officers.
Once the kid was away from the car, the patdown could not include the car, and could NEVER include the glove box.
After you get punitives from the officers, be sure to immediately put liens on their homes. You may never see the money, but those cops will have to live in the city for the rest of their lives or lose the home outright. You'll eventually get the money after they die, which won't be too long after all the stress they've been through.

How do you think I feel as a 20+ year vet still pushing a beat car(by choice),when an inspector or supervisor breaks my balls for staying down on a job in order to get to a lunch location,and the next day I see tons of squads from outside unit(TRU,SOS)sitting in the same place for hours on end.I swear I counted 11 cars,including 2 sgts. at one place.Half hour lunches and congregating rules only apply to the chumps in patrol?This is part of the reason morale is so far down the shitter.

A comment about TRU while I'm here. Before one of you gets killed, please think about what you are doing. I'm completely serious. I've seen dozens of TRU cops stop cars over the last two years. A two man TRU unit pulls over a car with 3-4 heads inside. They tell everyone to get out at once. Then one copper starts searching the car immediately while his partner starts patting down 3-4 suspects at the back of the car by himself. It's scary to watch. If any TRU people are reading this, I'm not preaching, but saftey first! Get them out one at a time, pat them down one at a time. Then one of you can search the car if you belive there in contraband inside. It aint going anywhere. Any TRU sgts out there reading this should go over officer safety at roll call. One of these kids is going to get seriously hurt or worse if you don't. I mean it.
Sory, I am there and i've never seen that, when they get them out of the car they are cuffed together for SAFETY, then the stop continues. Enough with this kids shit, all these people came from the working districts you talk so much about, 007, 011, 006, 005, 010, 008,015, most have over 4-7 yrs. on, some have alot more and were in housing south prior to TRU, so quit your bs, you should be more worried about the ppos in the districts that seem to know it all their first week on the street.

I attend the DOC every week and their numbers are always better than that, i'm surprised actually because once all that manpower hits a DOC, on top of the regular district personnel and whatever other unit is there, it is over-saturated to the point that they trip over each other and things shut down. I know thats the idea but think that the numbers they produce are pretty good considering that fact. I am glad to see them in my district, and shootings are rare in the DOC when they are assigned. Keep them coming.
Neither Hillard or Cline wanted a strong disciplinary system and that is why they placed weaklings in-charge of IAD and OPS. Then they micro managed their handpicked stooges to ensure they did nothing. Who in their right mind would place Nate Gibson in-charge of anything?

SOS have been overrated since they had the name Ryan's Raiders. All they could do is abuse people and leave the mess to the district people who dealt with it for days afterward. Their supervisors didnt even have to handle their accident, they were handled by the District but the Sergeant would always call to make sure that it was made non-preventable, even if they hit a pole in a parking lot. All of them should go back to the District to learn what the job is all about, and that includes their supervisors. Next, get rid of TRU, it is just another place to hide these useless goofs.
Public service announcement "There's going to be an overload of phone calls, probably causing a shutdown of phone service in the Chicago land area", now that all these sons of supervisors are being disbanned. But don't worry I'm sure they'll all land on their feet.

P.O. gets off work and picks up his son. He and his son go shopping and run a few errands. P.O. goes home and forgets to take his wallet and gun from the glove box. Half hour later his son uses his car to make a quick trip to the store. Not gone more than 2o mins. While exiting the vehicle to go back into his home approximate 50 feet away hes stopped by 8th district in regards to a call of shots being fired. The person who made the call sees this and informs the officers that this in not the person who fired the shots. Ignoring this information the officers proceed to detain the kid and search the vehicle. Finding the gun in the glove box the take the kid into custody. While doing so the kid tells the officers that his father is a P.O. and informs them that he must have left the gun in the car. The kid never knew it was there. Not caring the officers lock him up anyway and charge him with UUW. Upon finding out the P.O. immediately comes outside to find out whats going on and is brushed off by both the 2 P.O.'s and their Sgt. The P.O. then goes to the 8th dis and is immediately brushed off by the desk Sgt and the W.C. He is made to wait in the lobby while his son is processed. Needless to say ASA denied felony charges. While the P.O. is waiting his son is sitting in an interview room for 5 hours and has yet to be processed. When the P.O. finally leaves the station his son is processed and printed. 6 hours after initial arrest. Oh and by the way they impounded his car. If you think I'm making this up ask anyone in 008.

The R/O's as well as every copper in the 30 sector responded to call of shots fired. The R/o's were flagged by a citizen (victim) who stated that he was just shot at by five M/1's in a black S.U.V. The R/O's drive two blocks and, what do you know, a black S.U.V. with five M/1's. A coincidence? I friggin doubt it.
The SGT on scene handled it like a pro. Good think he is also an M/1 because I'm sure if he wasnt the race card would have been pulled.

Its true...is a disgrace if this would have been a family member of your own....however..everyone knows that the worst offenders you could ever lock up are coppers kids. Alot of us look the other way when something like this happens, but youre making the job harder for the next P.O. who has to confront johnny next time he gets stop because somehow he has immunity. Case in point: the recent demotion of 5th dist. Commander Matthews and his alter boy child...he gets arrested in 024 for assaulting a honest complainant....he gets arrested in 019 for a UUW...and recently stop in 023 for having "stolen" police squad car keys....whats does matthews do....puts cr #s on 024 coppers....pushes around 019 coppers....and fluffs the 023 wc...how about being a parent for a change.....the 008 po's did their job AND "DID IT WELL."

Here's the answer. The kid get locked up and charged for U.U.W. because he was in control of the car and the gun WAS in the glove box.
The stupid father (police officer) has a CR number initiated against him for leaving his gun in the glove box.
It sounds like the ASA was smart enough to know a felony would never fly in this case. HOWEVER, the misdemeanor has a good chance of sticking unless you pay a SHITLOAD in attorney’s fees.
IAD could and SHOULD give the dumb officer 30 days (Not pending) and hopefully it will get knocked down to 15 days.
This is just another example why many of us would HATE to work in 008 or 016 with moronic not to mention whining-ass coppers.

I read the arrest report. It says the vehicle matched the description of a vehicle used in a shots fired call. How many black SUV's are in this city. It makes no mention of anyone else in the car and it further goes on to say that he was walking away from the car when he was stopped. It further says that they went back to the car and searched it. So lets see 1 person walking away from a car that looks like a lot of other cars in the city and an illegal search. The copper will no doubt take some time but can you say lawsuit.

I work that area and know that coppers kid and his gang-bangin friends. the only reason why he doesnt have a rap sheet a mile long is because his daddy is the po-lice. This kid has been taken into custody in the past for flashing a BB gun at citizens while in a passing vehicle but later released because his daddy is the po-lice. Neither the copper or his kid even live on that block.
The R/O's as well as every copper in the 30 sector responded to call of shots fired. The R/o's were flagged by a citizen (victim) who stated that he was just shot at by five M/1's in a black S.U.V. The R/O's drive two blocks and, what do you know, a black S.U.V. with five M/1's. A coincidence? I friggin doubt it.
The SGT on scene handled it like a pro. Good think he is also an M/1 because I'm sure if he wasnt the race card would have been pulled.
"The kid was running to the store and was only gone for 2 min"-----yeah, ok. but he had time to pick up his 4 hood rat buddies.
Now shut your mouth, copper, you and your kid f'd up. Now deal with it. Dont spread any more lies about how it went down. The supervisors did what they had to do. Your kid has abused your being the police and has been cut way too much slack in the past. Now its all over.

A CR# was obtained on the officer's who made the arrest. Thing is, the 003rd Dist cop didn't obtain it. I talked to him earlier today, he doesn't put beefs in on cops. It wouldn't be honorable. The beef came from the other kid just watching what was going on, not in the car, and just got scooped up for
"looking like a gang banger". He got charged with reckless conduct along with the other two people that were in the car.(Not four hood rats; Get your facts right dick head). What was so reckless about their conduct.Don't put lies on paper to justify your bullshit. Tell it like it was. Didn't you read what happened to those S.O.S. guys on 63rd ST. Good police don't put cases on people nor do they condone the actions of ignorant cops, Scarred ass lucky sperm Sgts. and egotistical Lts. Every one is saying there must be more to this story, but understand this, there is no more to the story. That's why there is so much feedback. If there was more to the story it wouldn't be on SCC. Ask any "Good" supervisor what they would've done. Face it, this caper was FUBAR all the way from the Cop who left his gun in the car, to the way it was poorly handled by Officers and supervisors. I also happen to own one of the biggest houses in Garcia Ridge. And there's alot of them. I figure I was off about 4 months last year to finish off my place in the Keys. My life is a bitch but I would never kill myself. I have too much going for me. As soon as I take care of the last couple years of the kids school and I will be all done.Not bad retiring at 46 with about $8200 per month to look forward to.Along with my investments it might be a little bit more.
