The Chicago Police Department moved Tuesday to disband its Special Operations Section -- and a source disclosed that a probe of the troubled unit is focusing on some former bosses of the seven cops arrested in the corruption case.
The criminal investigation of the once-elite Special Operations Section "goes high" into the ranks, said a source close to the case, adding that more charges are expected.

WRONG THERE MARKIE-MARK, THE MAJORITY OF DUES PAYING MEMBERS YOU REPRESENT COULD GIVE A FLYING RATS ASS ABOUT SOS BEING DISBANDED. THEY'RE MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR LACK OF A CONTRACT & YOUR MALFEASANCE AND UTTER LACK ON INIATIVE IN SECURING ONE FOR THEM!!
I have a hard time accepting the statement that only a few bad apples ruined the entire SOS Unit. For over 20 years, we have ALL witnessed the bullshit displayed by officers from this Unit (regardless of which Unit name they were called over the years) at the District level. The majority of the SOS teams were allowed to wear black hooded sweatshirts and no name tags EVERYDAY, as witnessed in the recent bar video. This was their ACCEPTED uniform, which did not allow the officers to be identified as they ganged up on citizens in packs of 4 to 10 officers. ANY supervisor that allowed this should be CULPABLE. The only purpose of this was to break the laws of the State and Rules/Regulations of this department without getting caught. The countless number of complaints that District level supervisors had to investigate because of this Unit is staggering. And IAD either turned a blind eye or was too stupid to connect the dots and realize there was a MAJOR problem with these officers.
But now, because of the lack of supervision from LT and above, the CPD has the same reputation of the LAPD or the New Orleans PD of the past. Because of the unqualified promotions of friends and the continuation of friends promoting friends without any leadership skills, the CPD is considered the abyss of law enforcement in the United States, if not the world. Citizens probably have more respect for the Iraqi Police Dept. than the CPD. I would truly welcome a Federal monitor to take over or share in the future direction of this Dept. I say this because that will truly be nail in the coffin that will stop officers from working. It would also show the liberals that we have some of the biggest asshole criminals in the world living in Chicago and this isn’t a world class city the mayor likes to lie about.
The funny thing is what other stories are ready to break. Any intelligent guesser would have to believe that there are 5 to 10 additional newsworthy SOS stories that could break at any minute, but the public could handle the m, so they will released every so often so the citizens of the city wont all leave at the same time. Who is left living in the city limits anyway?? The answer is liberals, criminals and city workers.
Although I believe that 95% of the CPD members are law-abiding (80 % hardworking and 15% lazy dog asses but not criminals), it is the continued policy of meritorious hiring that has led to a COMPLETE BREAKDOWN at the Command and decision making levels. By the city never acknowledging who the meritorious supervisors are and WHY they were chosen, they will continue to cast doubt and suspicion on the entire process.
Change can be a good thing but be careful what you wish for. It might just come true.
Is Dana's ousting a bad thing? Of course not. We would ALL agree he's an idiot and a puppet himself. Take care Dana, thanks for playing.
But what does the future hold for the police department? Will we eventually be left alone and allowed to be the police again or will the leash/noose be tightened even further around or constricted necks? Only time will tell.
I love being a member of CPD and I'm proud of being a cop! Bad apples exist everywhere, you can't escape reality. We can however escape conviction by the media and the misinformed public. The sad fact is it will take an event similar to 9/11 to wake the liberal dead. We are only appreciated when we are needed. Right now the public has been lulled into a false sense of security. Too bad for them.
We can weather the storm and refurbish this tarnished moment. We need to look out for each other, do our job and wait for the attack. NYPD was considered a bunch of corrupt and cruel sadists. Now they're heroes! It sucks that that's what it's going to take but the tides are changing. Let's hope we're prepared.

In an effort to help those SOS officers and Supervisors that are returning to districts,I thought I'd update you on the following things to expect.
No one is considered "elite" at the district except those in CAPS and the front office. The rest of us are treated like scum of the earth.
You actually are timed on your lunches unless your part of the elite (see above).
Technology doesn't exist. Our radio batteries will last about 4hrs so take spares. Most of us still use the old pdt's. Imagine an etch-a-sketch or am I showing my age?
If you get a cold,headache,are fatigued or just don't feel like coming to work,just go on the medical. Really, no one checks. Consider it a third and fourth or more furlough.
Most bosses and citizens hate your guts and no one listens to you anymore. Saying "police stop" is as futile as those who yelled "iceberg" on the Titanic.
Speaking of the Titanic,your now on it and we're just about sunk.
Oh and you can't take a crap without getting an event number.
Just get a calendar and start counting the days til retirement like we all have. Most of us have it down to the minute we leave.
Didn't our acting supe just replace the old commander of SOS for a new, more racially appeasing guy. If he had made the decision to get rid of the unit months ago, why would he set his guy up for failure? The cover up's just keep on coming and it's a shame the media can't spot king richie using us as a smoke screen to evade detection...

Looks like the city is going to pursue on logical remedy to the deep seated corruption that dimishes the work of every day cops. Beefing up IAD!! The majority of cops on the job perform heroically on a consistent basis every day. However, there are cops who are unsuited for the job and some of whom should be in jail. The funny thing about is no particular racial group has a lock on corrupt or inept police officers. Pac Man and Finnegan are proof of that.
Community support for the Chicago Police Department has eroded from the Brownstones of the Gold Coast to the dungle of the 15th District. Only a blind man cannot read this blog and pay attention to the news without concluding that the Chicago Police leadership needs a wholesale regime change down to the rank of Captain.
Lets face it maybe its time for a Federal Takeover of the department. With it you might get a transparent promotional system, outside leadership recruited from the ranks of the Police Executive Forum, and maybe a contract you can live with if you are willing to pony up more tax dollars. Perhaps with a federal takeover management consultants might have the recommendations followed. Perhaps the bulk of the department will be deployed on the beat with a smaller segment serving as detectives. Maybe the number of specialized units (not detectives) will represent only 4% of the departments ranks of sworn officers. A possibility exists that the medical roll can be reformed so that lazy dogs don't leave working coppers hanging by not coming to work.
I may have left the department but I still love it! I hope positive change comes soon.

Reality is virtually meaningless. Perception is everything and even moreso in CLOUT CITY.
As of midnight last night. 95% of S.O.S. is being sent back to the districts not the tru unit. They can re-apply for tru like everyone else if they so wish. Special transfer order will be out at noon placing the po's in districts. Starks and Risley will be addressing the po's at 2pm. TRU will be getting sos cars for a 5th platoon.

Some more advice for our returning SOS officers:
When you complete an accident report,don't fret about who is at fault or who goes in box 1 or 2. The insurance companies make their own decisions anyway and don't give a hoot what we observe.
There are people in the districts that are untouchable and have super clout. These are the ones that usually hang around the desk,work CAPS or work in the front office. Most are blond and female but there are exceptions. Stay away from them. They pretend to be your friend,but will stab you in the back the first chance they get.
If you think that anyone cares what you think or feel,forget about it. You're a body,and expendable,get used to it.
Keep in mind the important things they can never take away from you. Your family,friends,and the feeling in your heart that you are the one element in shitcago that guards the lambs from the wolves.
Back each other up and go home safe. Keep in mind that someday,when you're sitting by the lake,having that cold drink,you'll look back and say,"I survived".

It's a shame that you two are making a comment about me anonymously(cowards), those who know me and my old partner know that we don't deserve this stuff that is rolling down hill, both of you who made those comments are no different than the idiots on the street or worse the media. I don't know where you work, but I imagine that the only thing you ride in is your desk.
First off, the people most of US are dealing with are not "citizens," they are inmates of Division XX of the Cook County Jail (commonly referred to as the City of Chicago Outdoor Yard).
Second off, I don't know what police department you work for, but I work for the CPD and it is clearly evident that in this police department less that 5% of the police officers do 100% of the work.
Finally, I'd question your 80/15 breakdown because you forgot an important group. In the CPD, 90% of the police would be fired as a ditch digger because they belong to the moron, psycho, retard, or gangbanger group. The next 5% of the officers are hard to qualify because they don't realize they are police officers, they think they work at Best Buy.
The remaining 5% used to work at SOS.
Good Riddence to SOS, what an embarrassment. This is what happens when the politically and department heavy bosses kids are allowed to run unchecked and not expected to play by the same rules as the no-clout, do your job everyday and get beat up and put under the microscope daily fine officers of the CPD. SOS has been a problem since I was in the academy 8 years ago. I can remember instructors there talking about how SOS was an out of control unit that did whatever they want. All these merit bosses who knew about SOS and there unethical policing should be held accountable. SOS and all the other recent bad incidents in the news about CPD has ruined the reputation of this department. Judges and juries don't believe anything an honest CPD cop says in court anymore. The old school mentality and corrupt culture that is so blatant in CPD is making it impossible for honest hard working cops with no clout to function here.
It has gotten so bad a lot of officers including myself are looking elsewhere for a job. The suburbs and state police offer just as much if not more pay, better training, proffesionally run departments, better equipment, and a chance to enjoy the right we all have as Americans - to live where we want! If any of you have taken a look around and seen the crap the Department is hiring, and the way clout is getting people promoted and assigned to nice units that officers with no clout have no chance of getting, it should make you disgusted to be a part of CPD. Any of you honest hard working officers reading this should get out of this department if you can. If you can't leave, then do only what is required of you during an 8 hour shift. Don't go overboard protecting a ghetto when you will be persicuted by the liberal media on your split second decisions. Just do the minimum, and do what you can to help out a legit honest citizen who needs your help.

You are kidding right? You are not smoking dope Right? Cynthia White was a thief and a bagman for her district commander. WHen the tact team was under investigation for robbing dope dealers and taking bribes, she and the commander were given a choice by the Feds- flip or go down. The commander was allowed to retire, White, after wearing a wire, was not indicted.
When the charges came down all were to be fired including White. The Feds stepped in and saved her job. She was allowed to moce out of the city for awhile. Also, she she was promoted to Sergeant without taking the test, thanks to the FEDS. She was put in IAD to protect her from death threats, not because she was good at anything. The only thing Cynthia White was good at was stealing and passing the money upwards.
She is not and never has been honest. She is afraid. As to the Feds loving her- Bullshit. Once they were done with her, that was it. This was a very long time ago. The Feds probably do not know who she is. She is an embarassment to the Department and the human race.

HOw about the fact that the department was advertising SOS in the Daily Bulletin until very recently? Coppers that are stuck in a district and trying to get a better lot in life probably applied and pissed off their watch commanders. Now what do they do?
SOS was full of faggot ass political hacks just like every other unit in the department. There also happened to be some damn good coppers that got into the unit after spending a few years in ghetto rathole districts. It's too bad that they are going to lose their spot.
I'd just like the news to stop referring to SOS as an "elite unit." They do the same with tact and gang teams when writing a story. There's nothing elite about having to suck your alderman's, watch commander's, etc. genitals to get a spot if that's how you got it.
I also welcome the Feds, I think this clout heavy dept. needs a shake up and many early retirements/resignations to clean house.Get rid of the clout and you will have a professional police dept.

I'm not a member of law enforcement, just a hard-working member of society. I won't judge police officers because I don't walk in their shoes and see what they see every day. For most of us average joe's, the situations police find themselves in are unfathomable.
However, you are held to a higher standard, as it should be. Bankers should protect our money, not steal it. Health care workers should heal us, not hurt us. Police officers should enforce the law, not break it.
There aren't just a few bad apples in the CPD, there are many and the one thing they almost certainly have in common - clout. So what the public sees is that it's okay for a police officer to rob you, mistreat you, harrass and threaten you because he knows he can. This I know from personal experience.
I'm sure a good majority of officers work hard and really do like the job they signed on to do, but until the 'criminals' are weeded out of the system, you'll be hard-pressed to regain the confidence of the public.
I may have left the department but I still love it! I hope positive change comes soon.

News flash: Most of these men/women dumped from SOS, especially the ones who were there for a long time can do a tour of duty in a district standing on their head. Don't think that they are concerned with all the little checks and balances that are put in place to keep the paranoid coppers in check. 1/2 hour lunch, answering jobs, writing reports etc., a walk in the park. Please show me a sgt. out here who makes you WORK and I have some land in Florida that you might be interested in purchasing, clown. I was there the day that THEN Sgt. J. Jackson was informed that he would receive "a day" because a PO didn't have a hat on...and it wasn't an inspector who dropped it on him, it was THEN Supt. Leroy "I'm in charge!" Martin who arrived on the scene OFF DUTY and jammed up Action Jackson (Leroy lived and drank in 004, and was constantly fucking with 004th District coppers while he was off duty). But J.J., being the true trooper that he was, remained respectful to the little turd, and never complained about the hit he took. J.J. was a great guy even then.

Most of the guys who I worked with in the deuce would not have remembered me as I did not go out of my way to be very social.
Its kind of hard to qualify for affirmative action when you are not a protected class member.
When you have a graduate degree from Loyola University (Earned while working in the deuce! Thanks to those great City of Chicago educational benefits) and you are bilingual (that means you speak more than one language) you don't need to enter the federal service using affirmative action.

I participate in this public access blog because I live in Northern Illinois (Naperville) and have a healthy interest in what happens on the Chicago Police Department. This interest is due to the fact: (A) I have parents in Chicago, (B)I own property in Chicago, and (C)I have a nice sum of money still in Deferred Compensation which I have never removed...... So partner lighten up and don't be so strident in your expressions of self loathing and shame. Instead,try and do some research that would help you to become a more productive copper and a better citizen. Who knows you might get promoted or perhaps start a career more suited to your interests and strengths.
