As Predicted...

A new Doomsday scenario!
  • Just days after the CTA postponed steep service cuts and fare hikes, the transit agency decided Wednesday to impose even more severe hardships on commuters effective Jan. 20 if the state government fails to work out a funding deal.

The CTA board voted 7-0 to eliminate 81 bus routes, raise fares to as high as $3.25 a ride and lay off more than 2,400 employees in the latest threatened transit "doomsday."
Will somebody...ANYBODY in Springfield call their bluff?

It's long past time that the CTA sinks or swims on their own abilities. If public transit sucks, people won't ride. If people are sick of $3.25 a gallon of gas and hour long commutes, they'll ride, and the CTA can charge them the appropriate fare. More riders, price goes down.

let them shut down who cares, the cta is a disgrace the zoos are cleaner than the red line.

Give the money to metra or pace were the riders are civil, not homeless mentals riding 24/7 shaking down the masses.

real simple. i pay out my ass for car insurance, for gas and all those car payments. if i didn't drive and i take the train or bus, then real simple, raise the fucking rates for the buses and trains. why punish all those people that don't even ride on them with raising taxes on other things punishing and affecting all of us. if you want to ride on the cta then you'll have to deal and accept the price increase.

The CTA is spending millions to let customers know about the pending crisis. How about sending out a press release and stop wasting all the money on hand-outs at station and stop and full page advertisements in the daily rags.

It's like the boy who cried wolf. And the townspeople went out and lo and behold, there was a wolf, and they chased the wolf away. And he cried wolf, and they went out and chased another wolf away.

And he cried wolf again, and they all said, ah, we're sick of that kid crying wolf, and so they let the wolf eat the kid and all their sheep, and then they starved.

When car owners pay the cost of the land they park on, then I'll feel a tiny bit guilty about asking for a subsidy for my train ride. Till then, STFU, hypocrite.

Anybody here ever write a traffic ticket?

Oh wait, anybody here ever spend 20% of your day on traffic enforcement?

Anybody here spend 20% of your day making sure the buses and trains don't hit each other? I didn't think so.

One last question in the quiz. Anybody here get any part of your salary paid by the gas tax or any other tax or fee that only car owners pay? Again, I didn't think so. Cars don't pay their way. Crank the gas tax and then we can talk about whether the CTA should get a subsidy.

No wonder most of Illinois looks like shit, Chicago has been sucking the state funds dry, go to WI and even the smallests down has paved streets and clean towns, most of IL looks like a 'hic' town. Just head south. Anyways you think any CTA BOSSES will loose there jobs"not". And will the ghetto routes be effected or just the ones where the tax payers live. I wish the GOOFS who are paying $350 for a condo next to a sec. 8 housing in 11 would stop, they are driving up the prices everywhare and then they leave to the suburbs when wifey gets prego.. because they realize CHICAGO SUCKS>

it's real simple 'anonymous #3'. do you currently enjoy getting stuck in traffic in your car? try adding approximately 500,000 more cars around rush hour (that's assuming that only half the current CTA riders start driving). Deal with a half-million more people on the highways, roads, and interstates for a week and then tell me that the CTA shouldn't get some funding help. This issue effects us all!

Also, Huberman hasn't miraculously solved all the CTAs problems, but he has made a difference. He's instituted a new and more frequent cleaning process without hiring any more workers for it. He's also pulled capital from existing projects to fix the Blue/RedLine slow zones.

Hm, pay for the cost of land we park on....You mean like at a parking garage? Or a parking lot? Or a metered spot? Or for a city sticker, known as a wheel tax? Or for a zone parking sticker? Or for an industrial parking sticker? or for a special real estate sales sticker? Or paying for a valet? We pay plenty to park, my friend. Here's to hoping a fat smelly homeless guy pukes on your wingtips on your el ride home!

*****************************
I do pay for the land where I park my car. IN MY TAXES asshole. I also pay tolls on the tollway, gas tax, our insurance is taxed, repairs are taxed, parts are taxed. I pay for a city sticker, and license plates. And I don't get to stand up at a meeting and BLEAT about getting someone else to meet my expenses. Since when is public transportation a right guaranteed by the constitution? And for the record, part of my taxes already go to support public transportation, and the only time I've been on it in the last 30 years was working special to keep you complaining bitches safe from the wolf. YOU WANT TO RIDE IT? THEN PAY UP!

I got your hypocrite right here.

And today, Huberman's CTA announced that through holding managers accountable, the number of bus runs they'd had to cancel because of absenteeism was down by more than a third, and the number of cuns cancelled because of equipment problems was down by 90%.

Keep bitching about Huberman. The more you bitch, the more he gets done.

I hardly ever ride the CTA, (but I do take the Orange line to traffic court). I don't like the graft and corruption either, and yes I also pay for car insurance, gas, the wheel tax etc. I pay taxes for the board of Education, even though my kids attend a Catholic school, and that is not fair either. But the CTA is a necessary evil. Without it and Metra you are going to put at least a quarter million more cars on the roads every day, and what a mess that would be. Oh and by the way, flame me if you want, and I realize that this job and city are far from perfect, but if this state and city sucks so much, why don't you just leave?

I wish for doomsday because there are too many buses on the street. Doomsday will right size the CTA and get rid of the inefficiency and redundancy of a BLOATED SYSTEM.

I cant wait till doomsday... this way we can stop the CTA from bussing people to mall in the Suburbs on Cermak to shop where the city taxes are cheaper.. Also I can cut twenty minutes off of my comute from the busses that block traffic with out pulling all the way over. And the multi bus waiting for the light to change yellow then go... and so on and so on and so on...

Then I can also get some of my tax money back
