Heard This One Lately?

Stories from Iraq:
  • BAGHDAD (AP) - In a dramatic turnaround, more than 3,000 Iraqi families driven out of their Baghdad neighborhoods have returned to their homes in the past three months as sectarian violence has dropped, the government said Saturday.
  • "In the past three months, the ministry did not register any forced displacement in the whole of Iraq," said Nawrous, who is a Kurd.
Gee, refugees headed back into Iraq? What do they know that we don't?
  • The number of attacks against U.S. soldiers has fallen to levels not seen since before the February 2006 bombing of a Shiite shrine in Samarra that touched off waves of sectarian killing, according to U.S. military statistics released Thursday. The death toll for American troops in October fell to 39, the lowest level since March 2006, and the eighth-lowest total in 56 months of fighting, according to the Web site icasualties.org, which tracks military fatalities.
  • While the Air Force has already dropped more than four times as many bombs in Iraq in 2007 as it dropped last year, pilots say that trend has surprisingly changed in the past month. Just as the number of U.S. deaths and insurgent attacks in Iraq have hit new lows for the year, the pilots have noticed a lull in the calls for airstrikes.
Seems like the troop surge is working. Seems like the calls for withdrawal by Pelosi, Reid, Clinton and Obama were a bit premature. Seems like the good news gets buried in the hopes that no one notices.

SCC: GOOD POINT AND GOOD POST. YOU'RE ON TARGET (AGAIN!). THE INSURGENTS WOULD LIKE TO KILL MORE OF OUR SOLDIERS WITH THE HOLIDAYS NEARING, BUT BECAUSE OF OUR WINNING THIS WAR AND THREATENING TO KICK THE CRAP OUT OF IRAQ, THE ATTACKS HAVE DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY. KEEP POSTING THE TRUTH AS I READ YOUR BLOG FIRST BEFORE I MORE ONTO MAINSTREAM (CORRUPT AND BIASED) MEDIA.

Every year since 2003 there has been a troop surge. The reason the numbers are down is because everyone with some sense has fled or has been killed. The kurds came back because the turks probably ran them back home.

LOL.

3,000 came back, over a million remain displaced.

Also, despite our troop surge, of which both my brother and cousin are a part of, the regular street patrols have stopped. So it's a misleading statistic because if our guys were out there patrolling, they'd be sitting ducks as usual...in horribly inadequate vehicles.

Meanwhile, Putin continue to cause unrest in the Middle East, making Bush look like a fool for kissing his ass. Unrest in middle east = $$$ for Russia.

Sorry, but I'm Irish, and I've seen this strategy before, from the other side.

Sure, arming Sunni insurgents to attack Al Qaida works in the short term.

But government death squads like this always turn out bad in the end. What happens with these death squads after they get rid of Al Qaida? They're not just gonna lay down their arms and go home. Can you say "civil war."? These death squads will be all over the Shias.

Standard counter-insurgency stuff. Didn't work in Ireland. Didn't work in Colombia. Never works.

I hope we acheive victory. I hope the people of Iraq can live in peace and our soldiers can return home. And we all should be encouraged by good news. What is victory in Iraq? A Shia dominated government that is a ally to Iran? Or is it a sectarian torn country that is left to fend for themselves with Saudi money fueling an insurgency to keep the Shia at bay? Or is it a Kurd dominated north that pays no attention to the central government and prokokes our NATO ally Turkey into a war? Again I hope the people of Iraq will soon know peace, and that our troops can come home. What happened to the rose petals that would greet us?

I am a Republican and a conservative but as they say on this site, I ain't drinking the KoolAide. I'm all for a good old fashioned war but I could give a fuck less about Iraqi families or African families or European families, I'm an American. This using of American boys and girls as sitting duck policemen for the savages of the world is P.C. bullshit not war. The fact that our current administration, that of the richest and most powerful country of the world has not found Osama Bin Laden is a fucking pathetic joke. Here is an idea......Bomb the shit out of Pakistan until they beg us to come and get this fucker. George Bush is dummy, a puppet, and an all around clown. Its no wonder that he doesn't know how to wage war, since he spent his cokehead youth avoiding going to war. He would fit in well here in Chicago, just another clout baby living off his daddies coat tails.

Once again this quibbling about ups and downs in Iraq ignores the obvious - we should have never been there in the first place.

Al Quaeda is and has always been stronger in Saudi Arabia than in Iraq, yet all we do is appease, appease, appease the Saudi leadership. Letting them get away with murder.

Meanwhile our tax dollars are used to create a new welfare state in Iraq. BRAVO.

(...crickets...)

Im tired of relatives of soldiers using the fact that someone they love is over there, therefore they are an expert! God bless your loved one. I pray for them every night. But to use that as a stance for being against the war??? What a crock. Last I checked it is a VOLUNTARY organization that is sending troops. No one was drafted against his or her will to go fight. Sorry the free college thing for nothing didnt work out, but they signed up for this. If I followed this train of thought I might as well have my mom protesting in front of Daleys house and claim "NO POLICE FOR WELFARE!" EVERY troop there voluntarily signed on the dotted line and knew the possibility of fighting in this war. To cry foul because that person is your brother/son/daughter is a bunch of shit. Maybe they will be there another 10 years, they signed up for it! So stop bitching, realize this is working, and that we truly are safer because of what has happened. Has there been a terrorist attack on our soil since Iraqi Freedom started? NO! Just say thank you, job well done Mr. President. Sorry your left wing media hasnt reported the successes your loved one has achieved, take that up with them, I too think that is bullshit. When our soldiers die in record numbers it is all over the news, when they dont, when schools get built, when electricity is turned on, when water is filtered and clean, when hospitals are up and running, etc etc IT ISNT NEWS! NOT TO THE MEDIA PUKES! So put your efforts into showing what this war is REALLY doing, not jumping on what the liberals hope it is not doing!

Last time I checked Bush was a pilot who did serve his country, Clinton was the draft dodger.

Bomb Pakistan? r u serious? bomb one of the only countries in the region that is actually helping us? Bin Laden is in the mountainous region between Pakistan and Afghanistan, bomb away, our bombs are useless there, there are so many caves and tunnels, we don't have enough bunker busters to make a dent there, why not talk about how Sudan wanted to hand him over to us during Clinton's reign.

Osama's been neutralized over there. He can churn out a video tape every now and then, but that's about it.

Why kill him and make him a martyr among Islamic Fanatics?

Given the choice of fighting them over there or over here, I choose over there.

It was announced today that 2007 is the DEADLIEST year for the US in Iraq since the beginning of the invasion.

I just scanned Fox News, and SHOCKINGLY, there's no mention of this on the front page of their site.

I'm anxiously awaiting the spin about this.

BAGHDAD - The U.S. military on Tuesday announced the deaths of five more soldiers, making 2007 the deadliest year for U.S. troops despite a recent downturn, according to an Associated Press count.

At least 852 American military personnel have died in Iraq so far this year — the highest annual toll since the war began in March 2003, according to AP figures.

SO TELL ME SCC, HOW GOES THE WAR??

Did you know that there are thousands of soldiers that are being stop lossed? That is an INVOLUNTARY extension on your contract. It happened to me when I had 2 weeks left to go before my contract ended. I was extended for 2 more years on active duty. This is how the DoD keeps their recruiting numbers up.

There is no spin, it is what it is. The number of dead and wounded is the lowest of any war or conflict this country has been in. Every life is precious and should be remembered but if you are talking in terms of numbers, it is extremely low. During Vietnam we lost somewhere in the neighborhood of 60,000 dead, not counting injured, they were bringing home hundreds a week.
I hope this war ends soon too, everyone does, but until then we need to support the troops and give them what they need to finish the job. When you complain about it being hopeless and don't support the effort you play right into the hands of Al Quaida, they were hoping the democrats would win the pullout vote, they are waiting in the wings for that to happen.
Incidentally, there was no mention of the topic of this article on any of the liberal meida outlets, where's the spin there?

perhaps when you VOLUNTARILY signed up you should have read the fine print which certainly had mention of the stop loss rule. Or perhaps you were just wowed by the cool ARMY tee shirt the recruiter was passing out.

At least Clinton took a decisive stand. Bush straddled the fence. Cheney got FIVE deferments. Come on, man. Any true fighter pilot wants to go into combat. Faker!

While watching C-Span a U.S. Rep., while speaking on the floor of the House stated that of those Marines who sustained fatal wounds to their torso 80% died due to defective body armor!!! So, to the jagoff that keeps saying they should have read the fine print, they didn't volunteer to be issued worthless junk to fight in this so-called war on terror;that ultimately did not save their life.
