Pool Buses?
We've bitched and we've heard bitching about the sad state of Fleet Management. We are chronically short pool vehicles and Fleet can't keep anything up and running to save their lives. It's a pathetically mismanaged agency that hides lord knows how many political hacks and pay rollers. It's hard to believe there'd actually be an arm of government that makes Fleet look reasonably competent.
- The CTA says it is more than $6 billion short of adequately modernizing its rail and bus lines, a staggering number lost in the debate as the agency lurches from one "doomsday" to another searching for the tens of millions of dollars it needs to keep operating.
The result is that more than 500 CTA buses, one-fourth of its fleet, have been on the road for 16 years, logging an average 580,000 miles apiece.
It's not just traffic that can make the wait for a CTA bus so long. The oldest CTA buses miss thousands of scheduled runs each month because of equipment breakdowns that keep them idle in the garage.
And of course, this infrastructure failure is a completely separate disaster from the upcoming "Doomsday" scenario bandied about daily by Huberman and his train wreck in waiting.

Seriously, how in the hell does this happen?!?!? It's just insane. Talk about an organization that needs to have some investigation done on it from the Federal level!
Let it fail who really cares. Talk to the mechanics. A blindfolded mechanic for the cta can determine the garage the bus is assigned.
Northside bus the blindfolded man finds the new yok times or the trib folded neatly.
Southside bus is loaded with food particles, human waist, biological body fluids, etc etc.
Now lets privatize the CTA. The northside will turn a profit, the southside will be sol...

Wow! Daley runs the cta through his kid hiberman, and also runs fleet management! Both are fucked up but then again daley and the criminals keep on rolling in luxury cars we pay for! They give a fuck about anyone unless they can stuff their pockets full of $$$$$$$$$

If you ride the CTA then pay higher fees.
The city shouldnt have to raise my taxes or anything for that matter to take care of the CTA riders problems.
I pay for high gasoline prices, my car note, car insurance and longer travel times and wear and tear on my car so I shouldn't get punished in any way for the CTA budget crisis.
So what? We have such pretty flowers in nice planters, and I hear we are getting a childrens museaum at the park! I love Shitcago!
But without the CTA, we might not get the Olympics!!!! I say raise taxes and buy all new buses.

Maybe it's time to get rid of the CPD, since the CTA seems to be run better than the CPD.

Without transit daley won't get the games. Only shows how the city, state and the feds are not serious about bringing the games here. Got to move people around. and the citizens won't stand for having no transit while the athletes do.
No it is the same as fleet management. You have the political hacks ruuning around doing nothing all day. Everyone is connected to a politician or someone's kid. They spent a huge amount of time and money cleaning the garages awhile back, because Ron likes a clean place to visit

MAYBE WE CAN DEPUTIZE THE BUS DRIVERS &THEY CAN HANDLE 911 CALLS ALONG THEIR ROUTES. YOU'RE NOTHING MORE THAN A MOUTHPIECE TOOL FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT. GET A LIFE!!
From A citizen, if you think you've got lying assh- now, let the CTA fail -they will be lying all over the place, the CPD is the only organization where getting a settlement is just about garanteed for just about any complaint. No bus service means they can't stalk the few of us in the black neighborhoods (where this ghetto stuff come from?) who do work or operate businesses, that means they will have to go into overtime causing "excessive force" complaints and picking "sacrifices" (that's someone who wants to kill himself so he lets or forces the police to kill him)so they can sue and get that easy money. CTA always has been in a doomsday state and the buses have always been worn out. This is from someone who has been taking the bus for more than forty years. Let these people we elect fail, recall them, just get serious and let them know if you are not part of the answer then you must be part of the problem, adios amigo.
Meanwhile, the CTA is spending over $350M on Daley's Block 37 megastation ($150M/70% over budget) - for which there is no need, unless Daley gets his magic Airport Express train service. (Where would it run?) The rebuild on Brown Line stations has cost over $500M. (To be fair, most of that was for Belmont and Fullerton, which really needed it.)
Oh yeah, and the bike racks on the buses are falling apart, so riders are having their bikes fall off and get smashed.
There seems to be a twisted preference for big-ticket projects over necessary maintenance. Somebody should look at the contractors on these jobs.
Just a CTA-riding civilian.
