And suburban police chases seem to be the common thread:
- A Joliet man died Sunday night on Interstate Highway 55 after he lost control of his pickup truck while fleeing police and struck a tractor-trailer truck head-on, injuring the other driver.
- Gatewood slowed and appeared to be pulling over on several occasions, only to speed away from the officer, the release stated. The officer abandoned the pursuit when Gatewood entered northbound I-55 at Plainfield Road.
- Witnesses later told investigators that Gatewood was driving recklessly and then lost control while trying to pass another car on the left shoulder near Renwick Road, according to Illinois State Police Trooper Mark Dorencz. The truck careened into the median, began to overturn and then struck a tractor-trailer truck in the southbound lanes.
Police stopped chasing miles before and the soon-to-be-dead asshole kept "fleeing" before piling it in. Thank god he only killed himself and not a family coming home from grandmas. It must have been an interesting conversation at the Pearly Gates before he got sent to the other place for a stretch.

Burbs suck because they fired an officer of color? What the hell does that mean? I worked with a suburban department for 30 years and just like the City, it was a real chore to get rid of someone because of the union and State and Federal Laws. If you were dumped, you had it coming.

Here's the last order I heard from a boss regarding police chases: Do NOT chase a car unless Maggie Daley has been upducted at gunpoint and is in the trunk.
You will never get fired or sued that way and will also go home alive. The old timers always said about chases, "If we don't get 'em today, we'll get 'em tomorrow."
Meaning the same miscreant felon scum who runs off today will do something else to get caught very soon and hopefully no one will get hurt putting the lower form of life in the slammer. It ain't like on TV.

keep up the good work boys and girls. i am totally for pursuing fleeing vehicles. maybe less than 1% after all is said and done is actually for "just" traffic offenses. nobody in Chicago runs just for traffic.
no chase policy's send the wrong message to the scum out there. policy makers need to stricken the penaltys for fleeing offenders and if damage or injury occur due to the pursuit, then the totality should rest soley on the badguy, not the police officer doing his or her job.
