Rumor Mill in Overdrive

Just in the past 24 hours, it's kicked into high gear:
  1. Corey Flagg out tying up "loose ends."
  2. Academy staff told to shape up - literally!
  3. Stand up inspections, roll call on the hour, write ups galore!
  4. Kirby giving her farewell speech to her Internal Affairs staff, telling them to keep up what they're doing.
Just an observation - if they keep doing what they were doing, we're going to have another couple of dozen investigations that miss obvious signs of corruption due to clout and sheer incompetence.

Rumor #?????

Sanford (Sanfish) Neal will rise from grave and assume command of the drug trade in Chicagoland!
J-fed will surrender the CPD to Sanfish's zombie army in Grant Park.
This post could surpass all of the previous SEISER posts!

It's a FACT! Rollcalls to start on the hour.

It's not that ROLLCALLS will be on time; as well they should. It's the way the Supervisors have been told to handle if you're a minute(s) late. And you thought that one SGT was an asshole. Hang Tight Ladies and Gents, this is going to get ugly as APATHY is guaranteed to set in - worse than what's been happening due to morale.

And I thought this FBI GUY was going to start from the top!

Obviously nothing's changed, guys at the bottom, the backbone of the police department (PATROL) will take the heat/beating as always.

The stand up inspections are true - no rumor.

Word is, J-Fed came to town the same day that President Bush was here, also the same time when we had the very warm weather. J-Fed made a comment about why so many officers had different uniforms on (vest, turtle necks, short sleeve shirt [had to be KMA] shirt with tie, shirt with no tie, no jacket, sweater, etc). It is not hard to imagine how many of us wore whatever they wanted that day. Anyhow, J-Fed made the comment, and at the DOC meeting it was passed along that we are going Old School. Stnad Up inspections will be done daily, except Sundays and holidays. If you, the PO, get written up for an uniform violation - your SGt will too.

Second, Corey Flagg "rumor". This was not a rumor, it was a documented incident, and that is a fact. The Area 2 D/C contacted the Fed's and IAD to have them look into it further.

Every dysfunctional aspect of the CPD can be directly or indirectly traced to CLOUT. Everything is rigged.

You name it. Incompetence, corruption, apathy and the lack of leadership, motivation and morale.

Chicago is the only major city in the nation that actually takes a perverse pride in political corruption.

This job just got worse and now its just pathetic!!

What traffic violation sorry did not see it! They are running dam they run to fast! I will make sure car is washed, fueled, serviced, downed for any malfunctioning item that includes all flashing lights (don't want to be written up for a faulty vehicle inspection). Game on boys and girls see you later going to buy new uniforms, get a haircut, eat lots of garlic oh well the 1st and 16th. But of course the olny time blue lights go on is when responding to officer or officers family needing assist! A piece of spaghetti or a police unit can only be led from the front end.

J-Fed's first order of business should be tighting security at all police facilities. Get rid of all the roach infested, disease ridden, stickey ass homeless people that fill the 005th district and other district lobbies with their stench. I wonder if bums fill and sleep in the lobby at any FBI buildings? Send them to a shelter where they belong. Get us a respectable place to work, with working equipment, and competent supervisors that can speak english. Then you will see most officers become more professional as their surroundings become more professional. Take a look around at some of the police facilities and equipment and of course the supervisors and you will have most of the departments problems solved.

Kirby didn't give a farewell speech. Certain people who have been in IAD for way to long got in a panic when they read the SunTimes and saw that Jody wants to rotate people every two years. She gave a pep talk and assured everyone that no one was being dumped and not to worry. It was almost comical to see the worry on the faces of P.O.'s who thought they were headed back to patrol, and still might be.

If they are going to screw with us then we need to send them a message, especially in busy districts.

Handle your jobs only. Stop generating cash.

I had the pleasure of listening to a few guys from a sat team complaining about having to work a full 8 hours. No more 6 hours days for those bitches.

Never gonna happen. If a required portion of the uniform is changed, the department has to buy everyone at least one shirt. That's why that new 3 season coat is optional because they are not gonna shell out $350 for each person to buy a new coat. The same is with that old shiny coat (which was the best coat they ever had). If they discontinue it, they have to buy everyone that wears it, the new coat. They rather have everyone that wears it retire and that will be the end of the coat. Recruits cannot buy the old coat because the coat was not an option when they came on the job, so that's how they get around buying people new uniform items.

This is a job! Wear the right shirt, pants, and boots, stand there for 2 minutes while they do a half-assed inspection, then go do the minimum for a few hours, then go home. Is it really that bad? Try that shit in the public sector...Id like to see a banker or a teacher, hell, even a guy that is stuck in a cubicle show up 10 minutes late in jeans and a shirt with yesterday's lunch all over it. Let's sweat the BIG stuff, like the tazer crackdown, radios that work for 6 hours, no pdt's, a lack of pool cars, patrol so short mids are 99....we don't have the luxury of complaining about dressing for roll call!!

When Leroy Martin was supe, if he caught you without a hat on, it was a day.....period! I used to think he was a big jagoff for that.

Now with all the different uniforms, plus the fact a shitload of coppers have goatees, braids, earrings, long fingernails....all that shit, I finally understand what the fuck he was trying to do.

Now I think a hat is good for when it's cold or raining, but the different uniforms have to go. One uniform standard for everyone! No goatees (if you have a bump card, fine, but a beard, not goatee) knock off the braids and earrings and ladies, get rid of the excessive nails....shine your damn shoes! Have some pride in your appearance. This isn't "Hill Street Blues" this is the CPD.

And what the fuck is wrong with being on time for work? If you can't be on time 99% of the time, then you're an asshat and deserve what you get.

Seems some think that the fed is big on the "it's your job" mindset. AKA: No award for you buck-o. for all you retarded fucks making fun of coppers complaining about uniform inspection at roll call- get a fucking clue. there are bigger problems around this department than unshined shoes, the number of pens i have in my uniform shirt pocket, etc... the department is soooo worried about my flashlight holder sewn onto my vest carrier that i get written up for that shit. yet the dept doesn't care that the cars don't work, half the pdts are missing, the radios won't last an entire shift, etc...

let's fix the shit that matters. and in the meantime, if all you 3 year hair gel wonders wanna shine your shoes and polish your duty belts, knock yourselves out. i'm sure the honor roll students hanging out at pulaski and madison will be impressed with how squared away you are.

To all the Judas' that harp about us crybabies, and how we should all look professional because we get paid and all that other nonsense, remember this: We are a reflection of the department we work for.

So, if you think that this is a highly organized well-oiled machine of of a dept. with all the technology and up-to-date equipment we need to do our jobs, then we should be dressed impeccably to reflect that.

However, that's not the case, we work for the most messed up disorganized joke of a dept. that is light years behind every other major police dept in terms of technology, equip, training and policies. Therefore, we should all be showing up to work drunk, wearing a t-shirts and blue jeans.

Now go wipe that brown shit off your nose. Kiss ass.

as usual the bs they worry about is the EXACT shit they dont need to worry about. Its a fucking joke. We had a guy written up because the sleeves on his shirt were not buttoned. Great job jp, u dont know what the fuck u are doing. your 1 vs 13,000 isnt going to work playing fucking dickhead hardball. Welcome to Chicago

1/12/2008 12:30:00 PM

***************************
First off, why and how does anyone justify coming to work with your sleeves rolled up, tie off if required, dirty shirts, dirty shoes at roll call, no name tags etc??? How, and why???
Second, why are you blaming JP on the crackdown? It really isn't his fault, it is the fault of the present exempts - they are trying to scramble and show what a great job they are doing.
On the other hand, I think you are SO WRONG in saying we don't need to get the troops in order, we desperately do need to do it. It only seems harsh right now in comparison to the coddling we have all been dishing out and getting for the last - what 10, 15 years? It isn't unreasonable to expect that officers at least look like they are following the rules..
What you, and the people who let things get lax, don't understand is that holding the troops to a certain standard sends more than just a message of "be on time" or "wear the proper uniform" or "follow the rules" it sends a message that "we are paying attention to you and what you are doing/wearing etc." Why is it important? Well, think about it, the laxity and coddling that have prevailed over the recent years have resulted in a force who truly believes a few of the following things:
1. The bosses aren't paying any attention to me.
2. The bosses and the department don't care about what I do, what I wear, when I show up for work, how long I stay at work, whether or not I follow their rules...
Well, that leads to the mess we are in right now, an increase in the percentage of guys/gals who will get in trouble ala the bartender beating, SOG, tact, gun teams, etc.
So.. guess what, they aren't wrong to take the bull by the horns and at least try to get the troops back on the right page, as well as kind of force the supervisors to actually supervise... that will be a new experience for most people who have been on less than 20 years, as well as all the sergeants who have never put their stripes on - and probably some LT and CAPT as well as exempts... it will be INTERESTING how it turns out.
There well NEVER be a time when NO ONE is getting into trouble, but certainly there are some guys/gals who won't go there as long as they have the impression that their supervisors are actually paying attention ... and there has been and are the guys/gals who definitely WILL go there if the supervisors aren't paying any attention.
Also, FYI, this is like Management of Personnel 101, a high school or first year college course in management, don't need no degree, even a GED could learn it...and do it....

Good, then Daley can reduce the number of police officers and replace them with department of revenue guys, they write ten times more tickets than the police do anyway..... why don't you laze your self and a bunch of others right out of a job??? Not to mention - reduce # of officers= reduce the $ into the pension=reduce the $ in the pension=reduct your pension and RAISE YOUR TAXES. So, by all means, stop all work, prove you are totally unnessary to the workings of the city, that is great... go ahead..

Did he learn to say Meritorious correctly? Couldnt pronounce that word before- He used MERITUS.

He is the first one I ever heard of that used the RACE card. While a PO in 010 he, and another PO now Capt. went up to the DC and let him know that his tactical teams didnt have any Mexicans represented. The DC at the time a M/2 promptly we placed on the tactical teams.

Trust him as far as you could throw him!!

Find a Dinosaur who use to work in 010 if any are around anymore, and ask who worked on the Tac team during the Marquette 10. Funny to see where some of them are now. The ones who didnt go to the joint that is.

I, for one dont care about stand up roll-calls. If your gonna throw stones at those officers in our ranks who look like they rolled outta bed, and put on a wrinkled uniform and didnt comb their hair, brush the teeth or shave. Then also add the women who wear make-up, jewelry, fingernails and funky shades of hair color. (Ever see the F/1 on State St? Kinda has an Orangy-Yellowish blonde color going on?)

Place the blame squarely where it belongs. Supervisors. Sgt's, Lts, Capt's and Commanders. Collectively they seem to be afraid to comfront any member of the opposite sex or race for fear of a race or sex beef. The equivelent of the ghetto lottery for CPD officers.

If a sgt does mention a uniform infraction they immediatly become an asshole. That last sentence isnt meant to give excuse to some of the supervisors on 3rd on 011 who were just born that way.

Lets get a few things straight: as per usual, nothing like facts getting in the way of a good story.

1. There has always been an order about stand up roll calls. Weekend and holiday exemptions, weapon inspections on prince spaghetti day.

2. A certain height challenged exempt, was the one who took it upon himself to shit on the working men and women of his bureau. He is the one that wants SPARS for everyone. Bureau of Patrol, where sore rectums are on display 24 hours a day!

3. Rather then bitch and moan about RUMORS of policy change, take a wait and see approach. Maybe we need a bit of a shake up. If the federale formally known as J.P. can bring a domestic priority down to a 3B, I'll personally put him in for beatification ....

Stay safe brothers and sisters.

I agree this would be a good start to help moral, not be surrounded by stinky bums. I've seen homeless people walking around shinning shoes on the second floor in the detective areas. Maybe a bum will steal some of the homicide files laying around because there are no secure file cabinets to put them in. Here's an idea for Walter Jacobson.

Well, the supervisors have no control or responsibility over the vehicles, pdt's or radios working, but they are responsible for making sure YOU are wearing the proper uniform and respond appropriately to your jobs, THAT IS WHY they are writing you up when YOU decide to say "F&ck You" to the supervisor by showing up in your skanky dirty uniform, with no name tag, and not shaving. That IS what you were trying to say wasn't it? Well, getting written up for it is just the appropriate response from your supervisor... you are only thinking about this at all because the supervisors have been coddling you since you got on the job and they weren't doing their job..

I've been on 19 years an have never seen anyone promoted, to any rank, who did not go to a district. They may stay for only 3-6 periods before going to a unit outside the patrol division if they're heavy, but they go to districts first. There is also a northsider being sent to the far south side, and a southsider going way up north. This list is bullshit.

I guess listening to these guys means supervisors should just let them show up however filthy way they want to, and I am sure they would give great support by flipping the bird to them.. yeah, that will fix everything... The common goal is clearly explained in the orders, and expecting compliance has nothing to do with micromanaging.
Plus, expecting the MINIMUM standards is not unreasonable and is absolutely done in the private sector too.. but then again this IS NOT THE PRIVATE SECTOR. I stand by my previous post and I think you are the.. whatever it is you called me...

Some of these comments are so funny, thanks for the laughs. I just wanted to say, I hope all the house mouses with their hair down in uniform and walking around outside of the district station with no vest and only a weapon get the first write-ups. Some of the CAPS officers should also be informed that even in plain clothes they are still required to wear a vest, cuffs, mace and extra magazine. How bout they start there instead of messing with us at roll call, at least we have most of our stuff.

yet the dept doesn't care that the cars don't work, half the pdts are missing, the radios won't last an entire shift, etc...
************************

There is nothing wrong with police officers being at work ON TIME, and showing up for work in clean uniforms. This includes shoes, and pants that don't have the winter salt rings around them
(and by the way, there hasn't been any snow on the ground here in over 2 weeks now, so please wash them!). What's truly shameful is that Sgts., Lts., Capts., and Commanders fail to look at their subordinates on a regular basis.
I've only heard of a handful of Commanders that even bother to speak the three watches in their districts, or even hold stand up inspections on a regular basis.
I salute the new Supt. for expressing an interest in getting the Dept. into some sort of physical fitness standards.
Another poster said it here, and it's true...if you look like you don't give a f***, the public will treat you likewise. Take some pride in your chosen profession people, or LEAVE.

For those of you groaning about getting written for small stuff....
There is no small stuff if it's part of the expectations of your job. It's called discipline and without discipline and/or self discipline every thing becomes kaotic. Lack of it has caused neighborhoods and even civilizations to crumble, and you've seen it first hand in your job.
For further proof, check out the Chicago Public Schools. They are kaotic because the kids have never learned discipline at home and the staff at school is not ALLOWED to take action against kids who act up. It starts with small steps, like being on time and in proper atire. So quit complaining and get with the program.

Then so should everyone else. Gig me for all the small stuff and pimp out the grunts. Fine asshole while your at it take a look at all the hiding spots in CAPS, 35th Street, No bid units, the acadamy, TRU, OCD, and all the other crap brushed under. You have no legitimacy when you only attempt to mess with the lowest police on the clout totem pole. Go to the mounted unit and mess with them. Oh im sorry you can't. That move wouldn't get far enough to make the blog. Keep it fair across the board or go home Jody. Not wearing a wristwatch???
This was a question when I was in the academy in 1978.

Wristwatches were not popular until World War I. That's when artillery barrages and ground attacks, "going over the top" had to be timed and to the second. Troop leaders synchronized and strapped their watches to their sleeves so they would not fumble with them as they ran over "no-mans land". "No man's land", that's like the West Side, but nobody speaks German.

Unless they changed the rule since 1978, officers had to have a "personal timepiece" on them while on duty. So a pocket watch was acceptable as fulfilling the requirement.

Thirty years later, there are few pocket watches to be seen. However, almost all officers have a cell phone, with a visible clock.

Therefore, if an officer has no wristwatch, but a cell phone with a clock, the uniform requirement is fulfilled.

Did those officers who got written up have a cell phone with a clock?

God willing, and the river don't rise, we will all make it to 20+ years at 50 and join the KMA club.I have seen bosses come and go, this guy is nothing new from what I see and hear. We all know the city is full of crap and it looks to me like this guy is following the same game plan.Who gets it in the ass as always? The guys in blue who have no juice.I was hoping things would be different, I was hoping that he would do away with merit promotions, clout positions, politics in general on the job, but I'm not seeing it. I have always felt that you should look good in uniform and when I'm wearing one it is clean, ironed, I'm shaved, and my shoes are polished. That has to do with my own personal upbringing because I was taught not to be a slob.If you want to look like a slob, have at it. That being said, I fail to see how this will improve morale. What will improve morale is ending merit promotions, clout positions, and removing all politics from this department. Corruption has to be cut off at the head not from the feet up.Right now you are the head, dear Superintendent, you will be the one people are looking at to clean up this department, and you will have to justify your 300+k a year job.Or are you just here for the 3 years? Will you at least define what merit means? What are the parameters for meritorious promotion?Make merit mean merit and not a phone call, clout, family relation, race,or politics. If you do just this one thing you will have made a world of difference and give us regular guys in blue some hope of making it on our own.Guys who work on this job do it because they like it, the way it's going, more and more I hear guys saying the hell with it,1st and 16th for me,why should I?Give us a reason to keep working, but remember we are men and women not children. That little comment about sergeants being mothers and fathers to us didn't set very well. You have your troops, you have your position, now lead us.

I've been wavering on the edge for a while now, but after this post, I have made up my mind. I OFFICIALLY HATE THIS JOB.

Please understand that this is not an easy comment to make. I came on this job with pride. My old man was on the job, and I wanted to follow in his footsteps.

When I came on this job so many years ago, I was PROUD to be the police. I wanted EVERYONE to know what I did for a living. I had FOP stickers on my car, wore police tee-shirts off duty and never hesitated to get involved in an off-duty scuffle if it meant the bad guy was going to jail. People RESPECTED us back then. They APPRECIATED us back then. They actually LIKED us back then.

Jump to 2008. EVERYONE hates us...the community, the media and worse of all, WE HATE EACH OTHER. Just look at some of the relentless shit that's posted on this blog. We pick each other apart and feed off the scraps, then wonder why the hell everyone else does it, too.

I am ambivilent about this job now. When I meet someone in a social setting and don't think I'll ever see them again, if they ask what I do for a living, I LIE. I'm sick and tired of fielding questions about Abatte, Finnegan and J-Fed. Civilians think all coppers owe them an explaination about all of the above.

Screw it. I've had it. Two more years and I'm gone. There is nothing left on this job. Do you know another copper who would seriously recommend to anyone that they become a member of the CPD? Seriously?

To all the new recruits...you have no idea what you signed up for. Get out now, before it's too late to do anything else.

Do the math J-Fed is going to screw us all. He's getting paid $310k for 4 years that 1.24 million and not sure about pension?. He'll do as King-Daley asks, that's why he got him in the first place. I was told the other candidates told King-Daley what he didn't want to hear so he didn't give them the Sup. job. He got someone who he can stick his hand up there azz and make them talk like a puppet. For J-Fed its all about the money. J-Fed already stated he wants to de-centralize command that means making SGTS more accountable and screwing all of patrol as usual. Many chumps think this guy is good for who? If you have the time retire now its only gonna get worse. I am amazed as how many of you suckers write tickets. In my district they wrote about 7000 parkers for one month at $100 a pop thats $700,000. Not including movers, tows and other fines, you generate money for the city like suckers. I DO understand you want to do right by the good bosses out there. But all in all I don't get it underfunded pension 49%, no contract, and if your in patrol you get the short end of the baton colon style. Most districts generate over a 1 million plus and why? So they can raise our taxes or cut our medical, they were talking about medical abusers and how they might cut the medical program and give uss 12days sick instead.
I will tell you that J-Fed is going to take a year or more to figure the Department out. When has someone learned our General Orders and Employment contract in a short time? Impossible, so he will have his own group of weasels assist him to screw us.
Best thing to do, and I wish we would all stick to it is:
Don't do any revenue generating work period or very little.
Make sure that the union stays on the azz of the city to watch any new changes to make sure it doesn't violate General Orders and our Contract.
And I know that arrests are not popular right now but when you have a complainant and its a gimme do it. Arrests generate no revenue period it raises the index crimes and taxes the system.
If you have to write tickets do as little as possible.
To all those who believe tickets are real police work go work for the TMA.
Grow some testes people and do the right thing if you cant see this job changing right before your eyes you have issues. I believe most coppers do love this job but you guys are not protecting it at all. Something has to be done.
