Researchers have concluded in a yet to be published study of the economics of prostitution in Chicago that the women were forced to service police officers, worked more on holidays and varied pricing based on race.
University of Chicago professor and ''Freakonomics'' author Steven D. Levitt and sociology professor Sudhir Venkatesh of Columbia University are the authors of the two-year study of street-level prostitution in Chicago's Roseland, Washington Park and Pullman neighborhoods.
[...] Prostitutes taking part in the study -- who were paid $150 a week -- reported that about 3 percent of the sex acts they performed were ''freebies'' given to Chicago police officers to avoid arrest.
Police spokeswoman Monique Bond did not respond to requests for comment on the study's finding.
The study's "co-author" was the subject of yesterday's Sun Times feature on the booming dope trade in the area surrounding the U of C where he claims to sat in on numerous high level gang meetings, some of which involved members of the CPD.

Last night, in the 5th District, some officers from the Third Watch on-viewed a disturbance. A short time later during the disturbance a cellular phone call was made, and information was given about a car near the disturbance having drugs in the vehicle.
When one of the officers approached the vehicle a white, Ford Thunderbird approached the officer and pulled up alongside him. There were two people in the Thunderbird, and the driver of the vehicle was former disgraced CPD Officer Corey Flagg!!
Flagg told the officer that he called and then Flagg pointed to the vehicle and said to the officer that is the car with drugs in it. The passenger of the vehicle attempted to reach inside of his jacket and the officer reached for his gun, then Flagg drove off.
I talked to people this morning, it was verified that it WAS Corey Flagg, by the officer, and several tact officers on the scene.
PLEASE - warn anyone working within Area 2, and specifically the 5th District, to watch their backs. There were several TRU units assigned to the 5th District last night, plus the Area 2 Mission and Saturation teams, all because of the Level 2 DOC.
Nobody knows if Flagg was working with the Feds trying to clean up some cases and work off some time; or if he was out there trying to finalize anything he did not get to before he goes away, on his own.
It is believed that Corey Flagg was given 10 days before he has to report to the Federal prison system.

U of C economists may be many things, but one thing that they (particularly Leavitt) are not is full of shit.
They couched the language in the media as being based on reports from prostitutes.
For anyone not aware, Leavitt is perhaps the least politically correct public figure in existence. One of his previous studies involved an economic justification of slavery prior to the civil war. He's covered topics that would offend just about anybody with a thin skin.

Is this a contract violation by the prostitutes and when are they coming to the north side to play santa clause? Also is this a north side thing only. Seeing as I have spent three quarters of my career in the areas mentioned I think I can be pretty much of an authority.
First off the Roseland and Pullman communities are right next to each other. The Pullman community, which is right next to the police station, was the neighborhood built by George Pullman over a century ago. It consists primarily of what today is called townhouses. It's is mostly white and Hispanic and a smaller per cent black. The neighborhood is a half mile wide by less than a half mile deep. The crime rate there is pretty low.
The Roseland community is about a mile by a mile in radius. It is pretty poor with a high crime rate. There is a very high unemployment rate too.
I have only seen a hooker walking the streets of Pullman maybe two or three times over the years. The Roseland area however has a high number of ladies "doing the stroll."
The article said the average cost of a sex act in Roseland was $43. What a joke! If you gave $43 to a Roseland hooker (most of them substance abusers) she would stay with you for an hour! The cost of a sex act would be no more than $20. Most charge $10 for oral sex (not counting the money they steal from the "customer"), maybe $20 on a weekend.
The police officer thing? I's imagine the ladies were telling the guys what they wanted to hear so they could continue to receive the $150 weekly stipend from the university. Why would an officer risk all kinds of STD's knowing these women are out there each night.
