Hey Look! Justified Shooting
- Last November, a terrified Indiana woman locked herself in a bedroom closet as a former boyfriend who'd been stalking her tried to kill her.
- Now, three months later, police say the woman killed her alleged stalker, Ryan Bergner, in self-defense.
- As the call continues, the woman pleads with police to hurry as a Hammond dispatcher stays on the line, assuring her officers are on their way. The dispatcher tells the woman to lock herself in a room, so she takes refuge in an upstairs bedroom, eventually in a closet.
Yet another reason for responsible gun ownership. The phrase "officers are on their way" isn't really comforting to someone who is retreating from an invader in her own home. We're sure it isn't much comfort to someone being bludgeoned, raped or otherwise violated in their own homes either.
If you listen to the 911 tape at the NBC site, the woman tells the dispatcher that she just got the gun that very morning. We'll bet she's thanking her lucky stars that she didn't put off getting it for one more day.

I am all for legally licensed conceal and carry laws.
I am a Police Officer who believes this!
Private citizens should be able to protect themselves from criminals, because the police can't be everywhere!
It works fine in Texas. Did you know that the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro area has one of the lowest crime rates. It is an area and population bigger than Chicago. That kills the big city theory of having no guns in a city!
The lower crime rate is due to honest, hard working citizens packing heat and protecting themselves!
Brings a meaning to the term of "Don't mess with Texas"!
At last justice is served!
RIP Ryan----NOT
"We'll bet she's thanking her lucky stars that she didn't put off getting it for one more day."
Amen to that.
GIT-R-DONE!!!
Just what should happen to a scum bag home invader......Judge,Jury,Executioner
Had this incident happened in City of Shitcago, county of Crooks, State of illinoisteal. She would have been arrested and still in jail..
Glad she was able to defend herself and live to see another day with out that asshole. Can't wait to retire in a few years and leave this corrupt city, county and state.
"Officers are reday to take the report."
Plus,Indiana recognizes their citizens Second Amendment and God given right to carry a firearm.

TOTALY UNFAIR TO THE INTRUDER:
I,Richard the Simp, your Mayor for Life disagree with her actions.
Why didn't she just call out to her free body guards like me and my pal lil Eddie Burke do when we suspect trouble is brewing.
Silly , silly, silly lady

SPEAKIN' OF SHOOTIN':
I guess the AMC channel is going to have a
"DEATH WISH" marathon soon. Anyone see the commercial for it? It shows
Charles Bronson(Kersey)saying "Its
like killin' roaches; u have to kill em all or whats the point!"
Now for me , that's a nice ,feel good story w/a happy ending!!
Its a shame that u liberal "chosen ones" dont realize as your voting
and making laws that nobody can get u onto that cattle car as long
as u have a gun & ammo. You'd have
thought u people would have learned
something after 1945.
Oh,and I dont hate Barack,Im not going to vote for him; but he at least signed/approved the bill to allow Police Ofs/retirees to carry
thru out this country.I have to give him that;now u citizens just have to convince him and those like
him that your life is worth as much as ours...

Does anyone have any insight on why, historically, Chicago developed into the urban giant it has become, but Hammond, Gary and the entire area south of the lake never did?
Was it primarily because of geographical factors?
Does anyone have any insight on why, historically, Chicago developed into the urban giant it has become, but Hammond, Gary and the entire area south of the lake never did?
Was it primarily because of geographical factors?
Uh, yeah. It's called the Illinois-Michigan Canal and it connected Lake Michigan to the Mississippi via the Illinois River in 1848, thereby creating the economic engine that is Chicago.
What? You though it was because Gary and Hammond are black?
Uh, no, I was wondering what historical factors, not as relevant today, were the cause, nothing to do with population demographics.
I was also thinking that, with the state of Indiana's respect for their citizen's 2nd Amendment Rights being proven, why the northwestern areas of the state haven't attracted the same kind of population expansion that the western and northern areas of Crook, Lake and DuPage counties in Illinois have.
And is it too late for this to happen, being that these geographical areas of Indiana are so dominated by industrial uses and the Indiana Dunes fronting the lake?
Are the geographical realities of the land areas not suitable for large structures, as in the downtown buildings of Chicago?
Are they unsuitable for residential development due to low elevation and/or prone to flooding?
Or is it primarily the economic realities of lack of employment opportunities within acceptable distances from the areas?
Because, in this day and age, while concealed carry rights are an attractive incentive to residency, economic realities don't appear to be as encouraging.
And I was wondering why.
As in, cause = effect, not the other way around.
As in, Gary and Hammond, as cities whose populations, as of today, consist primarily of the descendants of slaves, need not remain frozen in economic and social time, witness Chicago's Near West and South sides, let alone the Near North and Northwest areas.
As in, are there unsurmountable geographical obstacles, natural and/or man-made, as well as economic and societal, that are the causes of these areas of Northwestern Indiana not having developed over the past decades?
Including those Northwestern Indiana areas south of Gary and Hammond, as far south as Munster, Hobart, Merriville, Schererville, Valparaiso, and points somewhat south of same.
The same questions could be asked of the areas of Southwestern Michigan bordering the lakefront, just north of the Michigan/Indiana border.
Hmmm, she just faked out the police. Killed her boyfriend, and told them he was stalking her. Sounds like a cover up, or a lazy det.
We live in northern Indiana because the cost of living is lower but we go to Chicago to work because the constructions job pay more.
They say remember that when seconds count the police are only minutes away
Happy New Year SCC and stay safe!!!
As ridiculous as it may sound, I see a lot of potential in the areas of Northwestern Indiana that include Hammond, Gary, and their nearby neighboring towns.
Other than some inherent, geological and man-made geographical negatives, it's a very interesting area for development.
Were they not in Illinois, the far South Eastern suburbs of Crook County would also be very interesting, as well as the North Eastern areas of Will County.
Most people don't really understand the meaning of the phrase 'long-term planning'.
Or appreciate the benefits of studying specific historical patterns.
It is difficult to look beyond the tip of one's nose.
As I once heard it...
9-1-1 : help in 5-10 minutes.
M-1-9-1-1-A : help in 0.5-1.0 seconds.
(This is not to slam the police - they can't be there instantly.)
