As you may notice, the phrase "fire any officer" is not in quotes, and as such, cannot be assumed out of hand to have exited the Supe-to-be's mouth. Of course, the author of the entire item is none other than Daley's water carrier, Fran Spielman. So once again, the BS meter pegs high.

Off topic, but unbelievable. A man was charged late Tuesday night with 1st Degree Murder for killing his one month old baby on New Years Eve. The infant was beaten and suffered a cracked skull. It is awesome to see that the CPD finally has enlightened leadership. This guy seems like a renaissance man compared to his predecessors. SAC Weiss appears to have set very attainable priorities: managerial and supervisory accountability, a new academy, and recapturing the trust of the public. If you look anywhere in the city from Old Norridge to Mount Greenwood and back to Austin, most citizens who aren't related to coppers have a low opinion of CPD officers. Recapturing the trust of the pulic will be vital. I think SAC Weiss will probably surprise the CPD with a promotional process that is far more transparent. Federal agencies have had to respond to court judgements alleging egregious violations of FLSA and EEOC laws. As a result this guy will more than likely come up with better promotional processes. Not perfect but better than those in place now. As a result of his appointment, tryouts for the SWAT Team were the most equitable and fair they have ever been. When I was on the job I remember seeing a 300 pound sniper on the old HBT. You can bet SAC Weiss will bring in a former FBI or other Federal 1811 official to run IAD and also to be his chief of staff. An outsider with experience in sucessfully fighting public corruption has to be brought in to give a fresh set of eyes to examine this very real problem and come up with some winning solutions. You can also bet Charles Williams will be a winner. I predict he will end up as the 1 st Deputy or at worse retain his position. He has been vetted and cleared by the US Attorney's Office, the FBI, DEA, and ATF for many years. In those arenas his reputation is superlative. Plus he has a public persona that will be valuable in any efforts to engage black and latino residents in Chicago. GOD Bless the CPD

The 1997 arbitration ruling came about after the IAD attempted to arbitrarily tried to change the way disciplinary investigations are conducted.
The IAD wanted to limit the involvement of the attorney's that represent accused members.
The Lodge believed that the changes were not necessary and filed for expedited arbitration.
Shiela Burke and Tom Plienes obtained the assistance of Chief Ray Risley and Captain Pat Gunnell and with their assistance won a complete and total victory over the IAD.
The arbitrator ruled that the City could not arbitrarily overcome past practices. That the accused attorney's could confer with their clients after the investigator asked a question, that the attorney could answer the question for the accused, that the same attorney could represent multiple accused in the same investigation, that the attorney could interrupt the accused member and advise him on how to modify his answer.
Shiela Burke was correct to call this ruling "the greatest victory the Lodge ever had over the City".
Let us hope that Donohue does not bargin this victory away!
So who will make sure the Sgts and above follow all the rules? How many of these white shirts are "not" held accountable when they fuckup? NEW YORK — Two men wheeled a dead man through the streets in an office chair to a check-cashing store and tried to cash his Social Security check before being arrested on fraud charges, police said.
David J. Dalaia and James O'Hare pushed Virgilio Cintron's body from the Manhattan apartment that O'Hare and Cintron shared to Pay-O-Matic, about a block away, spokesman Paul Browne said witnesses told police.
"The witnesses saw the two pushing the chair with Cintron flopping from side to side and the two individuals propping him up and keeping him from flopping from side to side," Browne said.
The men left Cintron's body outside the store, went inside and tried to cash his $355 check, Browne said. The store's clerk, who knew Cintron, asked the men where he was, and O'Hare told the clerk they would go and get him, Browne said.
A police detective who was having lunch at a restaurant next to the check-cashing store noticed a crowd forming around Cintron's body, and "it's immediately apparent to him that Cintron is dead," Browne said.
The detective called uniformed New York Police Department officers at a nearby precinct. Emergency medical technicians arrived as O'Hare and Dalaia were preparing to wheel Cintron's body into the check-cashing store, Browne said. Police arrested Dalaia and O'Hare there, he said.

Medical roll needs complete overhaul. Also, light duty status. many officers use light duty to avoid details and work inside. Why can't the department routinely check their status? I am tired of watching healthy officers on light or limited duty working out and avoiding details. WTF!

We need a change. Also, Lt. Carother's wife is also a city employee and according to the 2008 budget, making over $100,000.00 a year working for city hall. Come on, when will these people be cited for favortism?
