Vultures Feast

  • The City Council approved a $19.8 million settlement on behalf of four men who claim they were tortured by former police Lt. Jon Burge.

Aaron Patterson, Madison Hobley, Stanley Howard and Leroy Orange were among scores of black suspects who claimed they were kicked, beaten and shocked into confessions in the 1970s and 80s at the Area 2 detective headquarters, which Lt. Burge headed in the 1980s.
Payouts on claims long disputed, never proven and long since relegated to the far side of the statute of limitations.

Claims backed by "evidence" that was manufactured by supposed officers of the court.

Claims by people that continue to have "problems" staying clean, staying on the straight and narrow, avoiding behavior that might have led to their being picked up as likely suspects in the first case almost 30 years ago.

Since they got their payouts, can we never hear about their BS "quest for justice" ever again? Thanks. Channel 5 also covers.

As a kid I recall looking out the window as the funeral for the fallen took place at St Dennis Church 83rd St Louis. The Teacher never spoke of it but as class was "under way" I looked out the window of my grammar school class and observed the police funeral..................then the shooting and subsequent funeral again for the officers who attended the original funeral. "I WILL NEVER EVER FUC**IN FO$RGET" It will always live with me. Always remeber this is a human story with a lot of people who hurt.

This will last Flint Taylor, Locke Bowman, Jon Loevy and Cable Guy Avila and the other Leftie ambulance chasers until about May; then more 'serious inquiry' will take place with their 40 Watt Media stooges; and the scam begins anew!

I think we should thank the good people at the People Law Office for their courage in fighting for justice, Flint is my heroe. For 40 years, People’s Law Office has successfully represented victims of the police and other government officials. We have fought for justice for people who have been tortured or physically abused, wrongfully arrested or convicted, unfairly sentenced to death, or targeted as a result of their political beliefs or organizing efforts on behalf of movements struggling for justice and liberation. Through our lawsuits we have uncovered secret abuses by police and government officials - including a torture ring inside the Chicago Police Department - and have recovered millions of dollars for our clients through settlements and trial verdicts.

Paying these death row rats money is deplorable. They should give them each one dollar for their trouble. The corporation counsel should learn to try cases and fight to win instead of proposing multi-million dollar settlements for career criminals.

check his clout out - he's got peeps inside cook county government and some of the city aldermen - i'd check who he and his law firms have donated to. He's getting certain cases steered to him - amazing how many settlements he's gotten .

God bless Jon Burge and his Dets. They were the police and made Chicago a better place. It took the scumbag lawyers, con-man so-called reverends and polititian ass kissers to undo the good work those good men did.

Never a mention in the press about the victims of those killling coward asshole thugs who those guys put in prison.

Burge fought the good fight. He might of bent rules, but he was dealing with true evil.
The Wilson brothers deserved death.
Patterson isn't a victim. He's a victimizer. I hope the feds sue him for costs for his conviction.

You know, it's this attitude which is behind your public perception problem.

Both the City, and two Special Prosecutors, admit that Burge tortured people, so those lawyers were right all along.

Sticking up for Burge just reinforces the public perception that police officers always cover each other, no matter how bad.

Me, I hate Burge. If he'd done his job right, none of us would ever have heard of those people collecting big settlements today. Think about it -- he made people feel sorry for a f*ing cop-killer. People should never feel sorry for a cop-killer. Never. Nice work, you asshat Burge.

here we go again. law makers in Springfield are attempting to raise taxes to take care of the transit problem here in Chicago. I have an expensive car note that I pay everymonth, I have to pay for repairs due to wear and tear from use, I have to pay for car insurance, I have to pay for expensive skyrocketing gas for my car and I have to sit in gridlock several times a day. SO WHY do I have to pay more taxes to cover the trains and buses. If they are running short of money then pay their employees less, cut back jobs or hears a real hard one, Raise rates. Let the people that take public transportation for it. Don't make me and my family pay for it.

Only later did I find out about the three four-flats in Cragin that came with the daughter of Stash and Evelyn! Thank God I married rich! So tell me Flynt Taylor there was an easier way to fortune? Rape and murder women, children and policeman you say? Hope Taylor, Bowman, Ed Burke and George Ryan get cancer. And God protect Jon Burge.

Do the shitheads who are back in the joint get their money thru automatic deposit in their inmate account.

Ilove it when Aaron Patterson is suing the shyster lawyers who helped him scam this money.

And of course there is Eddie Burke who again claims that these shitheads didn't get enough money. Eddit the thief is bound and determined to give away the money of the real taxpayers.

Mr. Superintendant, I think you should open an investigation of eddie burk, assign me to it so I can someday drag his ass out of city hall in handcuffs, kicking and screaming and put him in the bowels of CCJ so he can fall in love with some 400 # vice lord.

Those are just my good thoughts for the day, I'LL BE BACK!

Duh. You choose to use a car, you should have to pay for the consequences. As for why you should pay for public transit - just imagine how much worse the gridlock would be if all those people were out on the roads with you during rush hour! If you're so attached to your car, you should be happy to pay a little bit more to fund others to stay off the road and give you a clearer commute and less competition for parking spaces.

It wasn't racial with Burge, he hated murderers and in Area 2, the Blacks were doing the murders.
If a family member of mine was the victim of a violent crime, I would want Burge and his crew to investigate it, not Patty Walsh, not Maria Maher, not Charlie Williams, and the list could include a good portion of the White exempts currently on this job.

15 yrs. ago, only one boss stood up and backed Jon Burge, Lt. Jack Regan of old Area 3 Violent Crimes, his career light went out and he never made commander, even with over 30 yrs experience in the Detective Division dealing strictly with homicide investigations.

Jack Regan was comparable to today's John Farrell, both having a wealth of knowledge and who looked out for us.

God Bless Jon Burge and the detectives who served under him.

May they live long and in good health.

Someone killed 14 people!

George Ryan stated he saw evidence that Patterson, Orange, Hobley and Howard did not do it!

I wish that George Ryan would share that evidence with someone so the real killers can be brought to justice.

Until then it appears that the murderers of 14 people are walking the streets and could do it again.

I'm willing to deal with the gridlock. If you love public transportation so much, you should be paying for my gas so the train or bus isn't so crowded for you. Sounds kind of silly doesn't it? But so does me paying for your bus.

Egan and Boyle are (were in Boyle's case -- he just died) both former prosecutors. Egan was the States Attorney. Nobody ever accused either of them of being soft on crime. Just the opposite.

Probably the best indication is what the lawyers said about each other.

Flynt Taylor called the report a "whitewash." Egan called Taylor a "shyster." These aren't people who get along, or see the world the same way.

They could have got Wilson, and the rest, without torturing them. But they took the easy way out.

The result is that the CPD gets a big black eye, and nobody remembers Fahey or O'Brien (and cut the crap about Irish -- you better believe we cared about these officers -- they were ours.)

Everyone remembers Burge, and Wilson.

When everone forgets two murdered police officers, and everyone remembers the murderer and the cop who tortured him, somebody screwed up, big time.

We Irish know a thing or two about torture. The Brits used it on us for centuries. And we know that, no matter how much info it gets you, it always bites you in the ass in the end, because it always comes out, and always makes you look like sh*t, and makes the killers look like victims.

We kind of liked it when the Brits tortured us, because we knew we'd come out ahead in the end. Think about it.
