Homicide Numbers Up?
Someone claimed in the comments section that we've already hit double digits in homicides this year - the number we saw was 18 in the first 10 days of the year. That seems high.
Anyone have the actual official numbers?

Maybe the real homicides are reported as real homicides.
Why doesn't the official CPD Web site include a running count for Part I Index crimes by
district and area? The NYPD provides Compstat numbers by crime and by precinct at their site.
The CPD doesn't include the actual year-to-date numbers, only the percent increase/decrease versus comparable previous year data. (i.e., if murder is up 50%, it could mean a rise from 2 to 3 or a rise from 50 to 75).
I work in 10 and already there have been 3 homicides: Causes-A drug dealer was killed in his apartment by home invaders (probably took the drugs), another man was killed with a gunshot wound to the chest. It appearantly looked like a traffic accident, until the M.E. found the gunshot wound and he was also a drug dealer, and a Latin King was also killed.. Can anyone see the pattern? As in, just shit heads dying..

Great job to the officers in 007 tonight. Two bad guys in custody and two guns recovered after a shots fired call. Hope the officer who got bit doesn't get rabies or worse. Great job to the 007 officers and, dare I say it, TRU officers who together finally cleared the block before the riot began. To Super Jody, you want to earn the respect of the blue shirts, or at least give them a reason to listen to you, then come out and witness what it is like when a whole block or blocks go up and it's 30 or less officers to about 80-100 or more "citizens" who hate the police and want to challenge you in any way they can all while you are trying to establish a crime scene. Come out to one of the South or West side districts on a summer night when the "block party" gets out of control and the "party goers" are pissed that you are ruining their good time after they have been drinking for the last eight hours. Instead of saying you have no Police training it would be better to say you have no Police EXPERIENCE. Street experience that is. The blue shirts are the ones you need to reach out to and connect with. I hope you do not lock yourself in the ivory tower at 35th street and just bark out orders, nor do I hope you rely on whomever becomes your First Deputy to bring you up to speed on police experence and training. Try barking orders to unreasonable people who have submitted to mob mentality. You will have better luck getting a rock to obey you. Just a thought. Stay safe.

Your correct and i want to keep my job and pension also if the animals want to run wild and kill each other so be it! As long as they aim straight! Wow, thank god that during this whole riot, my shoes were freshly shined, no one ripped of my pretty tie bar, and my unexposed cuffs that I had to use didn't cause the people of the 007th district any grief. After we received numerous racial slurs, and recovered 2 guns, I immediately relocated to my designated vehicle to look like a pretty, unexperienced, no-street credibility, fbi guy. Once we pulled up into the station instead of immediately helping out with the processing, I quickly did 25 pushups followed by 25 sit-ups. I feel stellar, this will definately fix the drug, gun, and homocide problem in Chicago.
If you have computers in your car that actually work, go to the DIBS page for each district and you will see by district the most recent AggBatts and Homicides. Remember one incident for Homicide may have more than one victim, such as the triple homicide from 025. I did this last week and came up with 14-15 for the new year. Since then, there has been a couple of others and the death investigation turned homicide of the 1yr old.
In 008 we had four homicides in one week 27DEC - 04JAN. Two being in the new year.
025 leads the city with 6 homicides already.

01/12/2008 5:12 am...amen brother, i would take it a step further and videotape this scene and send it to all the major news outlets to show the normal acceptable behavior in these neighoborhoods. you know as well as i do the media would not have the balls to play it because the aldermen and the revs would call them racist for showing the residents true behavior. folks with this police bashing climate,the only way we will be appreciated again is to lay back and watch the crime rates on the south and west side go through the roof. first we need to write paper on everything. if we document everything this will show the true crime rate and this will send the upper management into panic mode. second we need to stop the proactive policing,which means just answer your calls,only make arrests on signed complaints and most important the only time we should be busting our ass out there is when a fellow copper calls for help and thats it!i guarantee if we become united and follow this mentality just for a few months,the crime rate on the south and west side will sky rocket and they will beg us to be the police. until then the only time we should go all out is when a fellow officer or an officers family needs help.

fellow coppers, don't fall for any little bones thrown to us to improve morale, or finalize a contract. Remember, we have kids to raise, family health concerns, elderly parents to care for, skyrocketing taxes, gas and food prices, and on and on and on. We need and deserve a large raise in pay without losing any benefits, as the job is more complex for us, and there is more pressure on us than ever. We, the few working cops as compared to the 2/3rds or so doing house-mouse admin. duties are responsible for the great drop in crime for several years now. We deserve the best, not some little uniform pin, after all the years of being screwed by corrupt politicians and their annointed blessed ones in the CPD who have gotten numerous promotions and easy spots to work in, despite being inept, compliments of the highly corrupt Chicago -Crook County Daley crime cabal. Do not trust the F.O.P. easily either, they are far too close to elbow-rubbers with the Daleys and Company. We should have trained, professional contract negotiators for all our contracts, our past negotiators have not done an adequate job, if you don't believe it, check with other large metro depts such as NYPD for the results of their contract negotiations. Local suburbs now pay as much or more the we get, with far less aggravation attached to employment with them. Don't give up or surrender to some b.s.; we do deserve the very best police contract in the United States, because we, the working coppers of the CPD, have put up with all this B.S. for so many years now. 6 day work weeks, fixed promotional exams, not enough manpower, junk equipment, political clout-baby never been the police supervisors, etc; etc; etc. Stay tough, demand the best in pay, medical, dental, optical,hours, secondary employment options, fair & impartial promotions, and disciplinary hearings, and on and on. Remember, we deserve the best. Don't let the liberal city and the liberal news-media screw us again because we have maybe 5% bad apples who have made us look bad on the news. Off topic - Contract
Hey everyone, I have 10 years on the job which puts me in the middle. I can still relate to the younger coppers and I can start to see what is important for retirement.
This contract might hold the key for all of us to have a brighter future or virtually no future at all.
The city is going after two major things. 1. our benefits and 2. Discipline.
We can not allow ourselves or the union to be tempted with any kind of financial incentive in exchage for reduced medical benefits or tighter control on discipline.
The city has already made it clear they want to eliminate our medical benefits. It currently costs $800 a month to provide coverage for a family, not to mention what it would cost you at retirement. WE CAN NOT ALLOW THE UNION to balk on our benefits, we need to fight till the end for them.
As far as discipline goes, the city wants the ability to fire you! Coppers after 5 years are making close to $70,000 when all is said and done, 10 years your making $80 to $90,000 and so on. If the city can thin the heard of these top heavy salary makers and replace them with fresh $42,000 a year probationary officers, the penny pinchers would be saving a lot of money.
So, whether you have 1 day on this job or 29 and a day to go, it is important that we all see the bigger picture and not allow the city and our Union to pick our fate!

MPPD were attempting to curb a vehicle that had stolen tires in the rear of the vehicle. The white Caddy escalade was traveling at a very high rate of speed N/B on Kedzie, blew the red light and struck a pick up truck with a single occupant from Tinely Park. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and sustained massive head injuries (most likely delayed fatal). The bad guy was some white kid from mt. greenwood. He was also thrown from his vehicle and may have snapped his spine.
Homicides count in the year the medical examiner declares the cause of death was homicide. No matter what year the death occurred in. Once a year is closed it can not be changed.
Where are the alleged unions at? FOP,PBPA?
Any attempt to increase unecessary discipline should be questioned. ANy attempt to reduce our medical benefits should be fought tooth and nail.
I am being objective here but in my 20+ years I have never seen a more incompetent and unassertive FOP. Bill Nolan and Sheila Burke did hold press conferences and did defend PO's tot he media. Where is the FOP????

I agree with the guy who basically said we need a large raise and not give up anything. But, he is probably right we will give up a bunch of shit and get a uniform ribbon in return.
Another thing:
I had never used the medical in more than a decade. I was the kind of schmuck that would call and drop a slip for time due rather than hit the medical, and only did this sparingly.
I then had a catastrophic illness and had to take some time off. Then I hear "oh..the CPD is going to give an attendance ribbon to officers who haven't used the medical the last year."
What the fuck?!
So the PPO who has 6months perfect attendance in the academy and 6 months while in their training district get an award ribbon?
I had a perfect attendance for my first 5 years, missed 3 days in the next 5 years, than in the next 5 years missed several months for a long hospital stay.
But to the CPD, I must be deemed a medical abuser. Fuck them!

Maher said they would take another look at the classifications and then we heard nothing more!
Believe it or not, 016 has had two homicides this year. But WTF, keep taking our gang and tac teams and sending them to 011, 015 and 025 because NOTHING ever happens here. Oh yea, almost forgot, keep sending a beat car to 025 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights as well. ASSHOLES!!!
We can hope that Cline, Malloy , Maher and the two mopes who sit outside her office manipulating the homicides into death investigations take the heat when the FEDS look into the way the homicide count has been kept down to benefit Daley the last few years.
