Kill All the Lawyers

  • For a quarter of a century, defense lawyers Dale Coventry and Jamie Kunz were bound by the rules of law to hold onto a secret that now could mean freedom for a man serving a life sentence for murder.

The secret -- memorialized in a notarized affidavit that they locked in a metal box -- was that their client, Andrew Wilson, admitted that he shotgunned to death a security guard at a McDonald's restaurant on the South Side in January 1982.

Bound to silence by attorney-client privilege, Kunz and Coventry could do nothing as another man, Alton Logan, 54, was tried and convicted instead.
What is truly amazing to us is it seems these two scumbag lawyers look like they want to be praised for keeping an innocent man behind bars for 26 years because they wrote a notarized affidavit in 1982 and kept it in a locked box since then.

We'll say this - Doctor/Client privilege can be pierced in extreme circumstances. Under certain conditions, the doctor is obliged by law to report certain things. Husband/Wife privilege can be broken, most times voluntarily by one party or the other. You can't tell us that Lawyer/Client privilege is the only thing impregnable in all circumstances? The law needs to be reformed if so.

What if Alton Logan was sentenced to death? What if they were marching him up to "Old Sparky" or strapping him to the gurney and Andrew Wilson was still alive? Kunz and Coventry still would have kept their mouths shut? They had information to free Logan 26 years ago and didn't.

So who does Alton Logan sue now? Kunz and Coventry? Wilson's "estate"? Illinois?

We hope Logan runs into Burge at the cemetery and joins him in pissing on Wilson's grave.

What about a lawyer's duty to the court, to the justice system, to justice itself?

Were these defense attorney's the only persons, other than the offender, who were aware of the facts which exonerated an innocent man?

And, if so, didn't they have a sworn duty to provide to the defense attorney's of the wrongly accused individual evidence that contradicted that possessed by those lawyers accusing and prosecuting same?

What contacts, connections or communications can be shown to have occurred between the two lawyers possessing the evidence in question and the lawyers, both prosecuting attorneys and defense attorneys, concerning the accused individual currently incarcerated?

Attorney/client privilege is no little matter, perhaps not as passionately inviolate as the relationship between priest and confessor, but vital, nonetheless.

The devil, being in the details, seems to have a hand in this one.

One of a BILLIONS of reasons to kill all lawyers:

A transgender woman in California has gone to court, claiming that a Catholic-affiliated hospital discriminated against her when it denied her request for breast augmentation surgery.

The man-turned-woman, Charlene Hastings, filed the complaint in December and said she wants to have the surgery because it will make her look more feminine, but the hospital has refused to operate because she was not born a woman.

Hastings, who already has had one major sex-change surgery, claims that Seton Medical Center in Daly City, Calif., would not allow her plastic surgeon to operate on a transgender person.

"I honestly believe that God has plans for me to have this surgery," Hastings told FOXNews.com.

"I felt simply less than equal," she said. "Here I am, a woman. I had the reassignment surgery, and not to allow me this right, I felt violated."

-------------------------------

Go to www.foxnews.com and take a peek at this hosebags photos. She looks like Clinger from M.A.S.H. 4077. I guess if we had Hillary Medical Care this transgender asshat would have a free set of boobs!

If I was this fool, I would try to get a nose reduction surgery first. It has a honker the size of a banana, but then again maybe he-she likes that.

MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING FOUR PEOPLE WITH A CHAINSAW

NEW BLOOMFIELD, Mo. — A man staying at a homeless shelter has wounded four people in a chainsaw and knife attack.

The Callaway County sheriff's office says 28-year-old Matthew Watkins is facing four counts each of first-degree assault and armed criminal action for the attack at the Mid-America Care Center. The homeless shelter is connected with Christian television station KNLJ.

Sheriff Dennis Crane says two victims were cut by a chainsaw and two others by a knife. Three of the victims were taken to hospitals, and Crane says at least one of those is in serious condition.

The sheriff's office says Watkins is originally from St. Louis. He is being held on $600,000 bond.

SCC IS BECOMING THE NEW DRUGE REPORT:

BY FRANK MAIN AND STEVE WARMBIR Staff Reporters/fmain@suntimes.com swarmbir@suntimes.com
Corey Flagg just a dirty cop or a lawman at heart?

Flagg is a former Chicago Police officer headed to prison in about two weeks to serve a 9½-year sentence for robbing drug dealers.

But on Jan. 11 -- while free on bond -- he was playing cop again.

Chicago Police think he made an anonymous 911 call tipping officers that a car parked near 107th and Wentworth contained drugs.

"That is the car," Flagg yelled to officers from a white Ford Thunderbird before driving off, according to a police report.

The officers searched the car, but didn't find any drugs or make any arrests. They recognized Flagg and reported him to their superiors, who notified the feds.

Federal authorities don't suspect he was doing anything nefarious, like trying to set up a rival. They just think he was trying to help the police.

'Being a good citizen'
"It was more on the order of being a good citizen," said his attorney, Jeff Steinback.

At his sentencing, Flagg said he became a cop to do good, but greed got the best of him. He's gratified to assist federal investigators as part of his guilty plea, Steinback said, adding, "I think he feels he's on the right side of things."

During Flagg's sentencing, U.S. District Judge Ronald Guzman summed up the good and bad in the former officer and his four co-defendant cops this way: "Almost schizophrenic."

They state the charges against Burge were proven? When? Burge was fired in a hearing in which the outcome was already predetermined. Everyone knew it, including Burge. The hearing was nothing more than a publicity stunt to give the lawyers a platform and make the city look good. Burge has never been charged with any crime and the Wilson brother’s convictions have been upheld by every court in the land.

Better question would be "Why did the SAO prosecute Logan when Edgar Hope said he wasn't involved and the shotgun was found in Wilson's possession? Seems like there was plenty of evidence at the time to exonerate Logan without these two attorneys coming forward and fingering their client. Even if they had come forward all Wilson had to do was deny and without any collaboration from him all that would have happened is that they would have lost their jobs and and licenses to practice.

They did the right thing. Too bad Logan can't sue the former States Attorney for malicious prosecution.

For some reason that it a complete mystery to me, some of your readers seem to think that this revelation about Andrew Wilson committing a murder that someone did 26 years in prison for somehow helps Jon Burge. Why? Burge was fired for what happened in the aftermath of Wilson's arrest for the murder of two police officers. The Alton Logan case means nothing for Burge. However, it is just another old case/disgrace investigated by CPD where the wrong man went to prison. Tooting the Logan case as a good thing for Burge is pretty damn stupid.

As an interesting side note, the Rules Of Professional Conduct dictates that the attorney/client privilege survive even death itself. Thus, had the deceased client not instructed the attorneys to produce this information after his death, it would not have come to light. While you bash them, they did their duty under the law. Moreover, they probably had a large role in convincing this individual to come forward after death.

You can bash these guys and the rule itself, but the attorney/client privilege is as sacared as the doctor/patient privilege. They did what is right under the law, and I'm sure it killed them to have to do it.

This is one of those rare cases where the existence of the rule had a negative impact. Too bad! The greater good is served by maintaining the privilege and ensuring that what you tell your attorney will remain confidential.

If I recall correctly John Conroy wrote a story in the Reader recently, which lamented on the passing of Andrew Wilson and all but declared he was a fellow that the community as a whole should look up too.

Flint Taylor and Jon Loevy praised Wilson in both the Reader story and in the Tribune and Sun Times when commenting on his death.

It appears that Wilson was just another big-time piece of shit who did not care about the people who he murdered and his so-called friends who he let sit in jail for 20 years for a crime they did not commit.

I would hope some one who ask Conroy, Taylor and Loevy about Wilson now?

But then again it is always been about the money and not justice.

Officers be aware of the above statement "the officers searched the car, but didn't find drugs..."

This is how the PRESS will distort things to better serve THEIR needs, and not the needs of the police.

That statement is an ABSOLUTE LIE, and Frank Main is 100% WRONG on this.

I know the cop that was involved in this (BM) and he DID NOT SEARCH THE CAR or go near the car. They thought it was some kind of set up, or some sort of tomfoolery was invovled and they did not do anything.

They DID report it to the W/C, who in turn provided it to the chain of command, and then somebody informed SCC.

Officers, if you do not realize it by now, THE PRESS and THE ASA's are NOT your friends.

NEW TOPIC for tomorrow . . .

This is unbelievable.
If you go to the Department's Intranet, Go to the Department's Administration page were it shows all the exempts pictures.
Find "Harold HOHM", he is no longer a commander of the unit.
HE HAS BEEN MADE A "CHIEF".

Un-fucking-believable ! !

Our tax dollars are paying a guy over $160,000 a year to be in command of about 8 people.

When the city says we don't have the money to give working police officers a raise, here is one more reason to say "go fuck yourself".

Copy of e-mail sent to:

http://www.bettergov.org/report_corruption.html

Harold Hohm was a commander of the helicopter unit making approximately $145,000 a year.
The payroll designation is known as a "D-6" on the police department. Hohm was now made a "Chief", a "D-8" position, one of only 3 on the department.

Hohm is being paid over $160,000 a year to command a helicopter unit which has no more than 6 or 8 members.

Something really stinks with the city. The exempt ranks of the police department are given these huge raises so they can retire with super-large pensions.

OFFICE OF THE PUBLIC OFFENDER
(ALSA/ Association of Licenced Scam Artist)

Speaking of Lawyers, Sat. Trib has a story of two former Public Defenders who knew of a man's innocence for 26 years, said nothing and let him rot in jail. The most outragous statement was made by Dale Coventty, one of the PDs that kept quiet for 26 yesrs who stated "the procecution shuld put on it's WHITE HAT and get this innocent man out". Coventry and Janie Dunz, his scam partner, could have done this 26 years ago.

Since when does rules, made up by other scam artist to protect themselves, protect the guilty and prosecute the innocent. They had the key but they themselves elected to keep this innocent (of this crime anyway) in jail for 26 years.

Are these the same lawyers for Andrew Wilson, convicted of killing two Police Officers and whining that he was a victm of the Burge portable electric generator. Coventry and Kunz tortured an innocent man without using the alleged Burge generator and this tjorture has be ongoing for 26 years.

Not sure any of you guys understand the perspective here, so I'll lay it out for you.

The attorneys have a duty to do no harm to their client.

This is not just a matter of them saying something that gets the other guy off. This is a matter of them saying somethign that sends their client up on a charge which he does not yet face.

Put another way. Say your client is an SOS officer, and he and a bunch of SOS guys get put up on Federal charges. Everybody gets their own attorney.

Your client tells you that he was involved in one of the capers alleged, and and that one of the others accused for the caper was not involved whatsoever.

Your lawyer is supposed to go to the judge and give you up to get somebody else off?

Think again.

On the other hand, they cannot knowingly advance a false case before the court. So they can't argue to the court that you were not involved whatsoever, if you've already told them you were.

In the Wilson case, it looks like the confession came after he was already convicted, so they didn't have to go and lie to a judge. They just had to not go and say anything.

It might be a line that some of you won't be able to see, but as far as I can tell, that's the line that they faced.

Reason #742097 that you don't let your kids grow up to be criminal defense attorneys.

I wouldn't put it past him or his shysters to cook this up so they can sue the state on behalf of the wrongfully convicted. Also since Wilson has been dead over a month why wait till now? If they really were in it for the justice they should have been in a judges chambers while Andrew was giving out his death rattle.

Ald. Ed Burke, the Limey, Not an Irishman, has been a ridiculous example of Chicago Politics for far too many decades now. His Goose-Fat ban made us the laughing stock of the Country. He is a buffoon the likes of Sharpton, Kusinich, & Co. Heard all he did was answer phones in the Youth Dicision when on CPD. Political Police. Never a real cop, just a clout-boy.

The six year old child that was shot in the head during a home invasion has been up graded from critical condition. The family and medical staff stated he is making good progress.

This is the same child that the Scum times reported as dead on their web site.

Feb 09 1982,

Fahey and O'Brien were gunned down by Andrew and Jackie Wilson. The officers were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital where they were cared for by Nurse Smith, Finneran, and nurse supervisor Marylou Dowd, The ER doctor was Mike O'donoghue.

Mayor Jane Byrne came to the hospital and gave the infamous
"go get em" order. RIP William and Richard and to nurse supervisor Dowd, you are all missed at LCM. JD,KG,LN, and the girls. God Bless.

SCC,
Love you,but you are wrong on this one. Never should any attorney confidence be breached by anyone. Lawyers might be whores but they are a necessary evil in our profession.

Tell that to Alton Logan who spent 26 years behind bars getting poked in the ass doing another jagoffs time.

As someone who was in 006 when this happened, STOP yourself before you expound on how this P.O.S. Alton Logan should get a good attorney. point #1 2 asholes stickup the McDonalds and kill the off duty CCSP and take his gun, both Alton and Edgar Hope were involved in the robbery/homicide, who fired the shot means nothing (felony murder). both subjects were on the bus together at 79th and the Dan Ryan Expy. when PPO James Doyle and his partner are stopped by a victim who points to Rabbit (HOPE) and relates that he is the one who robbed him a while back (sorry I don't remember how long ago the strong arm robbery ocurred before the stop.)Doyle and his FTO board the bus and as they approach the rear of the bus, where Alton and Hope are seated, the FTO see's Alton pass some thing to Hope, Hope pulls a gun and shoots PPO Doyle (Fatally) then engages the FTO in a shoot out on the bus which spilled out into the street, the FTO shoots Hope twice but the asshole survives. ansd in the commotion Alton Logan slips Away but is later apprehended. Investigation reveals that Hope had the murdered McDonalds guards gun on him and that LOGAN PASSED HIM ANOTHER GUN (WHICH HE TRIED TO KILL THE FTO WITH after dropping his original weapon,as if he was giving up). So now you have the rest of the story (thanks Paul Harvey). SO Please stop PITY FOR ALTON LOGAN, AS YOU ARE MAKING THIS OFFICER IN THE KNOW, VIOLENTLY SICK.

Kind of interesting that you can injure your hand and have to settle for disability, or get shot in the face and have the Department turn it's back on you, but if you are a Commander in a wheelchair, that's fine and dandy!!!! Nothing against that Commander, but what a HORRIBLE double standard!

Of course, the Tribune uses the article to attack Burge. And note that Richard Kling, who is trying to prove his client, Hope, is innocent, will object to the use of the affadavit. Kling, of course, assisted douchbag Daniel Salley, who shot Joe Airhart, at trial. Yes, Kling, you are a lawyer and a jagoff too.

By the way, "hater - 12:15," your logic doesn't follow. The breath test is a matter of a 5th amendment right to not incriminate. In this matter, the affadavit could have been used to exonerate an innocent man. The privilege would still prevent the statement to be used in any prosecution against Wilson. Go back to law school.

QUESTION ABOUT THE 6 YEAR OLD`CHILD.

Newspapers are reporting the 6 year old shot was shot during a home invasion for narcotics and money (a drug house).

So shouldn't the parents be charged for putting this child in danger by having this child in a drug house?

If they don't charge the parents, this means if the child survives it will go right back into the drug house.

I am sure that the child's medical bills (close to a million bucks) are being paid by us the taxpayers. Nice that the parents can get away with it.

Find "Harold HOHM", he is no longer a commander of the unit.
HE HAS BEEN MADE A "CHIEF".

********************
No he hasn't, someone in HQ keeps putting that photo in and it is continually requested that it be taken out.
He is the Chief Pilot, not a Chief. I am sure whoever puts that photo in all the time is either ignorant of the fact, or just trying to stir up trouble.

To the lawyer who said the greater good was served: You are a fucking idiot. What kind of man won't give up a shitty paying job as a Public Defender in order to save a person from a life wasted in prison for a crime he did not commit? These lawyers were presumably smart young men that could have chosen another professional field. Of course this assumes that they would be disbarred and fired for telling the truth (a huge assumption given how evil Andrew Wilson was). If you told me I had to give up my job and find a new career in order to avoid being responsible for someone being imprisoned for life, I would not be happy about it but I would do it. There is nothing honorable about what these cowards did. When it was time to stand up and be counted, these two ran away and hid behind a "privilege."

Who will represent Logan on his wrongful imprisonment lawsuit? Will it be Loevy, Taylor or Frank Avila? They are all in it for the money only.

Flint Taylor testified at 26th Street recently that he does a cost analysis prior to taking a case and if he cannot make money he will not take the case. So much for the the defender of the underdog and the wrongfully convicted. It appears he is just another scumbag money-chasing shyster.

Makes me wonder just what evidence was used to convict the guy in the first place, and how it might have been acquired, if indeed someone else committed the crime.

I can understand the problem the lawyers had. They agreed to certain rules, approved by the court system, that restrict how they can operate.

If you can force lawyers to give up their client when he confesses to some unrelated crime, we are certainly crossing a line I doubt many of us want to cross. How far would we be from forcing lawyers to report when a client admitted to a crime he is charged with? How could anyone get a fair trial if their lawyer is reporting to the court on what they are telling their lawyers?

How many of you would accept the idea that a conversation with your lawyer where you admitted to a crime you are not charged with forced your lawyer to rat you out?

The lawyers did all they could ethically do. I am sort of amazed that went as far as they did.

"They did the right thing. Too bad Logan can't sue the former States Attorney for malicious prosecution."

It'd only be malicious prosecution if the SAO knew AT.THE.TIME. Logan was innocent and proceeded anyway. Twenty-twenty hindsight does not a malicious prosecution make.
