Roll Call Questions
Well, If J-Fed is going to subject officers to the ranting of madmen at roll calls, there would seem to be a few options open to officers.
- Sit there and take it - easily the simplest option. It takes no effort and you can zone out and day dream while the "reverends" ramble
- Don't pay attention and converse during the "presentation" - conveys the unimportance of what the "guest speaker" is saying.
- Turn your back - demonstrates utter contempt for what is being told to you. Unfortunately, a direct order can circumvent this one.
- Walk out - again, contempt. Again, a direct order that you stay in the room makes problems.
- One of the more creative solutions included the whole roll call taking an hour at the front or calling in late - hard to coordinate on short notice. And why would you want to give the City back some of the time you earned?
What about this one?
- Ask questions back
How about a laundry list of grievances about why the "reverends" support the actions of gangsters who terrorize the community over the actions of those who leave the safety of their own homes to protect the community? Why the community is encouraged to seek out confrontation in the hopes of a large payout from the City, many times by the "reverends" themselves? Why legitimate investigations are stymied by "reverends" and their congregations via lies to the media and fabrications to the investigators?
A few well placed questions would blow these gasbags out of the water. And speaking of well placed questions, next time the Superintendent comes to a roll call, maybe he needs to be asked for some "clarification" regarding this "pilot program." After all, when it goes south, he doesn't have Charlie Williams to send to 018 to pick up the pieces anymore.

Its just like the T.V. show Hill Street Blues. They used to have meetings with the gang leaders. Now since the reverends basically represent the gangs, looks like the meetings are with them!
Just a thought. If you are going to go the "ask questions" route - what you want is a non-police non-rev in the room. Maybe your wife drops you off right at roll call, maybe there's a straight up civilian in the house, maybe you settle for the ASA who was taking a handwritten.

Hello SCC, Here's some roll call questions or would you in light of daily comments in our liberal world consider starting a new topic regarding; Statements that if made by mainstream America would be racist. I think it would be interesting to take statements made by self titled prominent people and exchange the words white, black or hispanic as appropriate would be interesting. For eg; If Ed Burke said "I want to know if Weiss is committed to choosing a white as his first deputy" (Ald. Freddrenna Lyle (6th) said she wants to know whether Weis is committed to choosing a black as his first deputy.) He would be publicly apologizing already. All these alder-creatures and reverends have made statements that if restated with new ethnicity's would bring out Sharpton and Jessie. Take for example Comcast TV has a whole section called Black TV, and channels called BET (black entertainment television) Would there be an outcry if there was WET (white entertainment tv) or some other nonsensical name? I think that your readers could easily recall statements made by Beavers, Al Sharpton and even Father Flogger that would be interesting if restated, even if they had their own statements put back to them after being said years ago but now with a substitution, they themselves would cry foul. How abou the alderman and rev.s that use the term "White Boys" (so do some officers, openly during hallway conversations, code name for whitey) Would it be OK to walk in our hallways and openly say "Black boys" Anyway, thanks for the opp. to rant a little. Can someone please tell me ONE just ONE majority black neighborhood, in the city, with an income bracket under $100,000 a year, that is relatively crime free. Or at least as crime free as Mt Greenwood, Edison Park even Garfield Ridge?

REVs reading this, you need to preach that if you don't follow the rules as kids, teens and get incarcerated, that it's your own fault, and yes it will mark you for life. No one wants to a hire a convict or someone who can't follow the rules.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed, come on, just name ONE neighborhood.
Until then, get your shit together and your neighborhoods together, and you will have earned the right to preach to the police dept that represents the WHOLE city for solutions to better living and police practices. Stay out of the rollcalls, and big pow wow meetings with police until you have a plan that works. The police dept is not your cure. It's a maintance system that ensures that the US Constitution is adhered to.

Sources say Stroger is waiting to officially announce Mullins' hiring until after the county budget is passed. It's not clear what Mullins would be paid, but the budget calls for the job to pay $105,059.

I agree with you SCC, well placed thoughtful questions would be good. The only problem is the being asked the questions will not give truthful answers, the fake reverends lives are lies. I have net some very decent ministers and reverends working in the "inner city." They want what is best for their community. The Rev's that show up at roll call won't be in this group.

Thank them for coming. Ask them to write their personal cell phone, work, and home numbers on the board so tat we can contact them when we need the assistance of the community. When they refuse, question their sincerity. Question them regarding their credentials. Then ask how they became a reverand anyway. Was it the internet? Once they start swearing and cussing at you, get a CR# on the W/C for not stopping it (if he/she didn't.) We can not be subjected to verbal abuse by a coworker or supervisor, why would a guest speaker be any different. One member from each watch at least keep a video camera available to record these roll calls to document the actions. It is not public so it can be recorded withou consent.
Remember the Seinfeld episode where Jerry goes to a heckler's office to return the favor?
How about we ask the reverends for ten minutes with their congregations, at which time we can ask questions and tell the congregants how they ought to behave. Hey SCC... how about an open post on what officers would tell the masses when they get the pulpit!!

Some years back When Maria Maher was the dist commander of 14 she had an outdoor BS roll call, where the Rev, started his BS and I was the only PO (female) that had balls enough to walk away and sit In my Squad car. Did I get fucked with absolutely, However I have been fucked over numerous times. I don't like it yet I deal with it. (BUllY's). When I was called in, I said separation of church and state. That I lived by that rule and hoped the department would do the same.
Just ignore them and blank stare in their direction with no eye contact. Also sit with arms folded and is a sign of defiance. Biggest thing every officer at the roll call has to do it. Last of all, do not respond or ask them any questions. DO NOT SPEAK OR INTERACT. They want dialog, If you dont give the Revs any they will get the message.

Revs are too lazy to go to lots of roll calls. This will be done by streaming video. That way they can redo the message so they dont look like fools and the dept is safe because there wont be any confrontations for the news media.
Pay attention to what the "reverend gas-bag" says. Too many complaints of abuse to men is usually a tell tale sign that reverend gas-bag is a sexist. Which means he is probably a sex offender, theif and looking for "easy money" or looking to blame someone for assaults/offenses that only happened in his mind. Once you have figured that out, you then have a more accurate perception of the kind of people you have to deal with in that ward/precinct and proceed as planned/ called for ...
To anonymous looking for one majority black nieghborhood, income under $100,000, mainly crime-free and why not. Because blacks of mixed incomes live in the same neighborhoods. My neighbors in the building where I lived were on welfare. My family worked, our income together put us somewhere in the middle class income range. The big welfare crime "scandal", hundreds of people were charged with receiving welfare benefits they were not qualified to get. This caused many working blacks such as ourselves and friends to become victims as well. Hoodlums, thugs, dope pushers and others? terrorized our families and other men, mostly white, along with hoodlums, etc assaulted our families and some of us are still trying to determine who these people were/are and prosecute them. Simply, our mixed income neighborhoods bring crime. In the suburbs there are large apartment complexes with low income people and high crine rates and then complexes with a higher income bracket and less crime. Blacks are not criminals no matter what their income, which is what your statement seems to imply.
It doesn't have to be your cell phones.
EVERY P.O. should bring a decent home video camera, hide it somewhere in the roll call room, then put the video on youtube.com

As I remember from the general order, any EEOC complaint (ie. sexual harassment, hostile work environment, quid pro quo) and a CR MUST be pulled by a supervisor. If the supervisor does not pull a CR then a CR can be pulled on them too.
I am going to sit at roll call and pick my nose and lift my ass cheek to fart. And I mean not hold it in but let the world know that I am farting. Just let them rip away and say "wow that felt good"! Screw all the reverends. Ever wonder what "MBC" Stand's for on the church signs? MAKE BELIEVE CHURCH!

Brainerd relatively crime free??? Are you shittin' me?! I know 022 is not the busiest place to work, but listen to our zone in the summer or look up 022's homicides. Probably 60% of 022's crime is from the Brainerd area. Not the nice neighborhood you think it is!

You say it's because of the mixed income that the neighborhood deteriorated. Every neighborhood I've lived in, in Chicago, in white neighborhoods, had welfare recepients. Some more than others.
All of the neighborhoods had dope sellers, and prostitution of some sort. But it wasn't advertised. They didn't wake the neighbors up shouting " rock and blow" The same guy selling dope would in fact help the old lady down the street and shovel her snow. If you claim it's the mixing of incomes, then why weren't the jets peaceful,, they're all the same income bracket. I'm sorry but you're really going to have to dig deeper to find an answer.
I'm not implying blacks are criminals.
I'm stating that I cannot find one black neighborhood with a lower middle class income level without a serious crime problem.
ps My family lived for at least 4 years at one time, below welfare level of income, and we were never on the dole.
I for one will walk out as soon as the Rev is introduced. Let the WC or Sgt give me a direct order to sit back down. I'll walk out and make them the first part of my lawsuit. The direct order most centrainly would be unlawful and can be disregarded.

TO: NEVER ON WELFARE even though you were below the poverty line. You said you never went "on the dole". So I know that you're Irish. It's a cultural thing. The Great Shame. The Proud Irish will do anything, go to any length, before they will ask (beg) for money. It's the very reason why the poor sickly Irish became the educated middle and upper middle class citizens that they have. That refusal to "go on the dole". However not all Irish had this mindset. Appalachia consists largely of Irish ancestry, about 90%. Mostly welfare recipients.
