Um...Duh? Welcome to Reality

  • A City Council committee held up a $195,000 payment to a Stateway Gardens man who made a ''Scarface''-style claim that Chicago Police officers who detained him during a 2004 drug raid threatened him with a running chain saw, downloaded pornography onto his computer and used racial epithets to insult him.

Finance Committee members withheld the settlement to Lloyd Haywood after questioning why the Law Department would agree to settle what aldermen said was one of the weakest cases to come down the pike in years.

Only two of the 15 witnesses supplied by Haywood responded to certified letters from the Police Department's Internal Affairs Division -- and neither supported the plaintiff's allegations.

Almost $200,000 for a case that even aldercreatures can see is full of holes. We're surprised they had the balls to actually hold up the settlement in committee. And Fran Spielman must be going to night J-school finally in case the Sun Times goes under and she actually has to look for a job. How weak was this case?
  • Haywood initially sued nine police officers, then dismissed his claims against six of them. Of the two officers he was able to identify, one was on vacation at the time of the raid and the other was in a different district.

"Everything was inconclusive. There's no evidence of any injuries. ... This is probably one of the worst [cases] I've ever seen come before this body," said Police Committee Chairman Isaac Carothers (29th).

"Are we giving the shop away every time we're threatened?" asked Ald. Ray Suarez (31st), who noted that the chain-saw allegation sounded like a scene from the movie "Scarface."

THESE QUESTIONS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ASKED YEARS AGO! If someone does a little digging, they can come up with 30 other cases in the past 5 years that have been settled for hundreds of thousands, even millions that had no basis in reality, starting with that lying asshole and the screwdriver.

Follow the money people. Find out which connected firms get this BS steered to them, find out how often the City settles and for how much, then see who contributes back to the election funds of aldercreatures or pet reverend projects or politically heavy causes that otherwise would never get a dime.

How does anyone think Rezko got things done? Shady real estate, bundling contributions, illegal reimbursements, connected contracting - and he's one step removed from a viable presidential candidate.

Someone should also look into how the lawyers that sue the city get the info, i bet more then often names of officers are leaked out by their buddies from law school that work at the corp. council.

This is another OUTRAGE!!!

Luckily, the PO's weren't slandered and libeled by name by the dying liberal media.

It has literally gotten to the point in Chicago where any shithead can makeup the most ludicrous allegations; that the "polEEce" did blah, blah, blah and the city will pay them.

Then in a quick,knee-jerk reaction to the dying, lying, liberal press; strip and fire the PO without any conclusive evidence or veracity of the facts.

Fired up and motivated!!!!

NOT

Someone out there use this as an opportunity to investigate the Corp. Counsel's office. They are selling us out, figuratively and literally and getting kickbacks in return from the scandalous law firms these scum lawyers represent.

I gotta tell ya... I almost never post here but this one struck a nerve. Find out who this guys attorneys are and see who in City government is in bed with them. It comes back to the usual "Evil Cabal" of R. Eugene Pincham and the rest of the hate monger lawyers who are intertwined in the Chicago law scene. I had the displeasure of appearing before the dis-
honorable Judge Pincham when he was at 26th and Cal. Talk about a kangaroo court! Everyone in his court was black; all 3 ASA's, all PD's, sheriffs, clerks, janitors, maintenance men, etc. I was the only paleface in the room. Not only did Pincham find the offender not guilty of rape (something he had a penchant for....he apparently doesn't think black women can actually say "no") he walked out of the building arm-in-arm with the big-$$$ defense attorney! Talk about obvious, the "fix" was in and Pincham was bought and sold, community be damned.

The aldermen are all in on it too. They settle these claims knowing their friends are getting their 33% with very little effort.

Al Capone killed lots of folks but it was the bookkeepers and accountants that finally sent him up the river. Maybe the new Supt. can sic his Fed friends on the shady lawsuit mill, giving our money away faster than any no-bid contract ever could.

In the SunTimes paper, Spielman wrote that the committee APPROVED the settlement.

The headline read, "Alleged Cop Set-Up Costs City 195K."

But, the committee didn't approve the settlement, they rejected the settlement.

On the SunTimes website, Spielman's article was mysteriously corrected, but that juicy headline remained.

Did Spielman even go to the hearing or just make up the headline along with a matching story?

Night journalism school? Hell, Spielman is probably just submitting these "stories" from home.

Someone in the Federal Government needs to take a long hard look at what goes on at the Corporation Counsel's office. Too many winnable cases are being settled. Are there private attorneys who are kicking back to people in the Corporation Counsel's office, or making heavy political contributions? Unfortunately, this is not new and has been going on since at least the Byrne administration (As far as I know) and probably longer.
