Want to Buy a Newspaper?

A fixer-upper; run down; badly soiled; journalistic credibility near zero.

Cheap.
  • Sun-Times Media Group Inc., parent of the Chicago Sun-Times, put the city's second-largest daily and "any or all" of the company's assets up for sale Monday amid a crippling decline in advertising and revenue at its newspapers.

The company said its board of directors also is looking at other strategic alternatives to increase shareholder value, including joint ventures or strategic partnerships.

But a sale has been, and remains, widely expected. Key shareholders in the struggling company, which also owns dozens of smaller Chicago-area papers, have been pushing for its sale to boost a badly lagging stock price caused by the industrywide loss of readers and advertisers to the Internet.

The demise of the print media has been a long time coming. A hidebound industry, unwilling to embrace or accept change and unreflective of the public they purportedly serve, has become part and parcel of the establishment (political and corporate) they were supposed to keep honest by reporting facts.

But facts and such get in the way of sales. And other facts get in the way of agendas. And let's face it - so much of what the Slum Times publishes today is agenda driven. And the lies told for years about circulation numbers to increase ad revenues came back to bite them.

If we had a spare billion, we'd buy them ourselves just to have the pleasure of shutting them down and selling the presses for scrap metal.

Everyone will soon be swiping, except for KK, unless you do what I do or say and nobody will be paid unless you bow to the King and Me

The impending demise of the Chicago Sun Times should have been apparent to everyone when the Chicago Tribune started delivering their newspapers.

The SUn Times executives talked about the buyer being someone who loved the history and accomplishments of the paper. Like they are going to find a Zell type to rally the paper, or the "franchise", as they call it. There is no such person.

Look at who advertises in this piece of shit. URB rehabbers and garage door people.
