LED Beat Tags

Stupid idea.

On one hand, a ten-cent piece of plastic with reflective stickers on it set in an aluminum holder and secured by a piece of bent metal.

On the other hand, some battery powered electrical device with a programmable chip on board to change numbers. Are they still held in the same aluminum bracket by a bent piece of metal? How long until they go missing? Which aldercreature's nephew created these things? Are they going to start handing out suspension time for missing tags?

All for what purpose?

While attending college in New Jersey, the Woodbridge Police Department and the Woodbridge Town Council were having a little war. Two town councilman were arrested for DUI within weeks of each other, and in response the council passed an ordinance that all town police vehicle must have 2 glowing blue lights on the b-posts of the vehicle at all times of operation. It gave motorists a huge warning from a distance, and was an insult to the police. Those of you who say the LED beat tag makes no difference because the car is marked anyway haven't spent enough time on the street, or driving in general. It makes a huge difference, and is a dumb idea.

SCC,
Take a look at this article:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080202/ap_on_el_pr/governors_next_president

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, a Barack Obama supporter, has his own budget deficit to deal with, plus ties to an indicted businessman.

The national media is completely ommitting any mention/relation of Tony Rezko by name or indirectly to Osama Obama.

OSAMA OBAMA & OPRAH

As far as his endorsement from Oprah, well, lets look at some of what she has given us in the past. First, she pushed her friend Dr. Phil on us, and as you may have heard, he is not a Doctor. The Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists imposed disciplinary sanctions on McGraw on January 27, 1989 for an inappropriate "dual relationship" reported in 1988 by a therapy client/employee from 1984. McGraw was ordered by the Board to take an ethics class, pass a jurisprudence exam, complete a physical evaluation, undergo a psychological evaluation and have his practice supervised for one year in order to continue his private practice in Texas. McGraw admits to giving the client a "job" at his office (which is not allowed), but denied carrying on a sexual relationship with the 19 year old, who says their relationship was "sexually inappropriate."[28][2][11] As of 2008, McGraw has not completed the conditions imposed by the Board of Examiners of Psychologists,[29] and he is not licensed to practice psychology in Texas, California or anywhere else. http://nobarrack.com/
Television Dr. Phil appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show in 1998, well after the above mentioned sanctioning, and subsequent, lose of license. http://nobarrack.com/media
Books Oprah also gave us the book “A Million Little Pieces” It later came out that the book was full of lies, and Oprah defended him, and later turned on him. http://nobarrack.com/
Heroes Most of the above information can be readily found online, and much of the information came direct from Wikipedia, an open content encyclopedia. Certainly, it is my opinion that Barrack Obama is not the right candidate for President of the United States. As an Illinois resident, I don’t think Barrack is the right Senator for Illinois either, but that is another story. My opinion about Barrack Obama is just that, my opinion, certainly, you should look at the facts behind any candidate, check their track record, and make sure their values align with your own. My opinion does not represent anyone else, or any organization. http://nobarrack.com/media

Yes, they are testing new LED beat tags....
Here's da' scoop.
024 now 018 is testing the new LED beat tags.
They are programmable by a small hand held remote device, similiar to a tv remote. The [alleged] upside is that 'any' car can be put in service as a specific beat car by a SUPERVISOR by merely assigning a beat tag [LED] to a car so equipped. They are highly visible at night, but the one I saw in 018 [1813] during the day was hardly ledgible in bright sun during the day. They are also working on adding an LED display to the roof for the CPD chopper so they can identify and direct specific cars during an incident from the air as they will be more readily identified.
This, was supposed to be in the planning stages over the last three years and only now came out as a result of Federal and another Mars light company competing for city contracts to get big city roof light contracts. According to the driver of beat 1813, his/her test car also has stobe lights in the front and rear in addition to the new test LED Mars/Beat tag on the roof.
Just some......."Info fo' da; Po-lice"

I work in 024 on 3rd watch. Occasionally I worked 2413, which had the new beat tag for awhile. It's part of the light bar. You can't take it off. Also, you cant change the numbers. It needs to be done by a tech or something. Lastly, it's BRIGHT! You can see it from blocks away. A real safety concern in my book.

This sounds like a brilliant idea. Now the bangers have something to aim at. Perhaps the same person responsible for this idea could come up with little flashing pins that the PO's could wear on their chest and back so that we would know exactly where each officer/target is. So much BS by someone who obviously spent all their time under someones desk giving head. I really like the rumor of having each officer's DNA on file, if true, how many times does one predict it will be used to identify deceased officers -versus how many times it will be used in officer related criminal/disciplinary cases.

Aside from the streaming video telling us how the almighty helicopter is going to help us, we never see the damn thing! Never available/working when needed and most Sgts have been quietly advised not to request it by the WCs. Too much paper work justifing the request after the fact. This is supposedly even if it was not available to respond. Don't count on seeing the eag-beater, its too booked up taking Alder Chumps on rides to justify their funding. Anybody ever had help from these helo people, I'd like a reality based story.

For a city with only 1 helicopter, that works only part time, and usually not at night, and some of that time is for the burbs, to worry about numbers on the light bars (beat tags, whatever) of cars that are falling apart is insane!

The black plastic (bakelite) with the reflective numbers is good enough for now and the future decade's.

We need equipment that works (R&D)! We need computers that work 24/7, radios that have 8 to 10 hr. battery life, or in/car chargers to keep them charged while we ride around.

Those new LED lightbars SUCK in the daytime, you can hardly see them. Yeah, at night they look good, but bright sunshine kills their effect.

Whoever tests these things out don't know Jack about the real world we have to patrol in!

Screw the car cameras, which will blow millions of bucks. And i'm sure you can't get one of these new (bright light beat) tags for under a buck (yeah right). Put the money where we can actually use it. New cars, radios, computers that really work all the time.

Over 4 years ago the Ill. State Police bought Panasonic Toughbook computers, (not cheap, but they are lightyears ahead of anything we have) they take a beating and are worth every penny they spent.
The crap we buy breaks right after it's delivered, they the company goes out of business. (thank you friends of the mayor).

Our purchasing dept. is so corrupt that if they don't get a freebee (Jacket, hat, trial version, test unit, free sample), they don't buy it. Some one always makes 2 times more than what it's worth.

With the size of this city, why don't we buy from the manufacturer's, and get their extended warrenties included?

Auto's. radios, cameras, vest's, batteries, whatever we need?

Our bid procedures are terrible, and we usually pay twice what it's worth and get screwed in the ass after we buy it.

Anyone in the papers reading this (Trib, Times)?

Our politicians are wasting our money faster than they can collect it!

I hope our new supt. has some direction in purchasing?

sighed;

The reason we can't do any of this, is becuase no manufacturer will deal directly with the city. They don't pay their bills ,there have been several suppliers that have gone bankrupt waiting for the city to pay their bills.

As for the LED being read by night vision equipment(helo cameras at night) guess again current technology of night vision doesn't allow for red lights to be used. The red light blooms out the equipment (infrared....red duhh)so once again our corrupt purchasing dept has aquired something that is totally useless for it's intended purpose, if indeed that is supposed to be it's purpose. I guess that is what comes from having personnel that are ignorant of both tactics and equipment assigned to R&D.

You are a moron...
You get two days off every week don't you?

I don't think the LED lights will let the copter see the cars either, that is not the reason.
Outside numbers on top of the vehicle would help the helo..

Whoever came up with this LED beat sign should be committed to an asylum.

How about strobe bullseyes, you damn fool. Flashing stars on our left chest. Maybe a loop audiotape set at 140 decibels announcing "Here come da PO-lice!"

Who promotes these imbeciles?

Benny Good Guy a lil goofy but had his heart in the right place. They crapped on him up to the very end. He always kept the Cicero "Street Crews" on a short leash.Classic

To 020 yes JG did, he is a rat! This fucking City/County tried to ruin Bryan's life FOR RESPONDING TO A 10-1 and JG put final nail in the coffin. JG deserves everything he gets and more. DO NOT TRUST HIM, OSTRACIZE HIM. Bryan lost three years and his house because of this Jagoff. ROT IN HELL YOU RAT!!

2/03/2008 10:11:00 AM

---------

Bryan was in 4 different districts in his 5 years on the job when he hit 018. Theres usually a reason for that. He was a goof, responded to a 10-1 as a wagon and according to reports, was putting the boots to a handcuffed jagoff (that deserved it) when he was just supposed to be there for the transport and had nothing to do with the situation. The incident happened in the projects and he never spend any time in the projects doing police work.
Simply put: he stepped on his dick.
Joe was his partner and if you recall, wound up getting canned too while the Lt on scene wound up getting promoted (now the commander of 018) and another tact PO got a meritorious Sgt promotion shortly thereafter.
Now who do you think was the rat?

this is not a new idea, in the 40's they tried out a neon sign on the top of the cars. Also the English had a iluminated sign. Both ideas went by the wayside as dumb and outdated, It was great for the tourist trade, but real bad if you are trying to do police work.
I truly hope thet K Fed is smarter than this. If he can be hoodwinked by this idea, then the bad guys have won rounf one.

JG is solid and I'd work a tour with him anyday. The earlier post had KV down pretty well. I'd burn 8 before I got in the car with him. Sorry he got back on the job. He caused alot of problems for some good coppers.

-------------

Because one was on tape kicking a cuffed offender and the other was standing 25 feet away due to the malay that ensued. And JG got suspended, I believe, for inattention to duty, possibly because when he was questioned as to who the officer was on tape, he said he couldnt make out on the video who anyone was.
inattention is procedural, false reports is procedural, battery is criminal, thus the trial. Someone pointed some fingers... thats for sure, but who? I doubt JG would've gotten 30 pending if he was the one naming names.

-----------

If Joe rolled he wouldve gotten promoted like some others did, not shitcanned like his partner. If Bryan wouldve came up with a justifyable use of force (ie: the handcuffed offender was kicking at me so I was forced to take him back to the ground.. he continued.. and I used my baton to combat the kicks as I was taught in the academy in the use of force PSS {police safety system} model) instead of the knee jerk, "what?! thats not me?! I didnt do it!" He probably wouldve gotten a day if even that. But, Bryan wasnt that bright.
In this day and age, coppers that point fingers get promoted while the stand up guys go down with their partners, that is, unless their partner actually takes responsibility, which never happened.
And from what I saw of the tape, it looked like it was justified anyway. In that malay and with that jagoff nightfall (thats now off the streets) there's no doubt in my mind, cuffed or not, he was still fighting, spitting, kicking, and probably told his 'auntie' to get the camcorder out during the 30 minutes him and his boys locked themselves in the van.
JG aint the bad guy in this one.

It was JG that pointed the finger at Bryan. Whatever Bryan did that night he did not deserve to be indicted and lose three years pay, so all you monday morning QBs GFY. I frankly don't care what Bryan did that night, it was a 10-1 in the jungle, all I do care about is that he was ratted out by another cop. A big part of the problem was the refusal of the white shirts to do a TRR at Bryan's insistance!

______________

The officer does the TRR. Just do one in the computer and ask a supervisor to review it after you submit it. They can't delete it and if they refuse to complete it at least you have it in there to prove you did one.

TRRs were done on all offenders. I think the officer that did the TRRs was the same PO that was meritoriously promoted shortly thereafter. hmmmmm....
