And the Point Is...?

Another bright idea:
  • Tiny plastic bags used to sell small quantities of heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana and other drugs would be banned in Chicago, under a crackdown advanced today by a City Council committee.

Ald. Robert Fioretti (2nd) persuaded the Health Committee to ban possession of “self-sealing plastic bags under two inches in either height or width,” after picking up 15 of the bags on a recent Sunday afternoon stroll through a West Side park.

Banning the packaging materials will do exactly what? Everyone is going to stop buying and selling dope because the city banned tiny zip-loc baggies?

Wow. We sure hope no one thinks to order them from out of state and have UPS drop off a billion of them to their front door.

It's the $1,500 fine per offense, said offense that will be adjudicated by the city's hearing officers, that's gonna generate boocoo revenue.

Another method to effectively sub-contract the dealers of prohibited substances into 'working' for the city.

Prohibited Substances + Consumer Demand for same = Huge Profits

Huge Profits + Vigorous Enforcement + Huge Fines = Huge Revenues

No different than any other writing of paper.

The City Department of Revenue prays nightly for more prohibitory laws, with higher fines, vigorously enforced and adjudicated by the city's hearing officers.

The High Sheriff of Nottingham would be proud.

Speaking of Alderrats, hear this about Alderrat Hairston in 003 (UNK ward). She claimed some nefarious individual cut her home phone lines and so she contacted Skahill and DEMANDED a special attention from police. Every hour on the hour. Next day, we find out that the phone company accidentally shut off service. Reconnected, with apologies. I mean, why would she call her phone company to check? Must be a plot! A plot I say! She despises Franklin so much, I'm surprised she informed 003 on this. I mean, she is so good and upstanding, he should have been at the top of her list. Aw crud, I just threw up in my throat. Sigh, what we deal with.

A couple retiring this year will need about $225,000 in savings to cover medical costs in retirement, according to a study released Wednesday by Fidelity Investments.

The figure, calculated for a couple age 65, is up 4.7 percent from the $215,000 estimate for 2007

And it is similar to other projections for health care costs in retirement — daunting figures given that longer life spans also are requiring workers to increase retirement nest eggs.

A separate study released last month by the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College estimated that an individual needs to go into retirement with some $102,000 earmarked just for health care coverage, while a couple needs about $206,000.

Given current levels of retirement savings, the center said, six in 10 older workers are "at risk" of being unable to maintain their standard of living in retirement.

The Fidelity study, which has been conducted annually since 2002, assumes workers do not have employer-sponsored retiree health care coverage. It includes expenses associated with Medicare premium payments as well as co-payments and deductibles, plus out-of-pocket prescription drug costs.

With health care costs continuing to outpace wage increases and companies are we sitting pretty or are we screwed?

The way I see it, its just another way to generate REVENUE! (after all, we are turning into armed revenue collectors) Corner liquor store sells the bags, gets caught by the police, fine the store $1500, 2k,3k...what ever.
Dope, gun, hooker, loud music in the car, how much is the impound? Not much money, right?
Multiply that by the number of cars a year. Now were getting into the "real money" aerea...
Average cost on a parker, $75, $100? Multiplied by the number of tickets the Police hand out in a year... Then include Dept of Revenue.
How much is the intrest on your retro-check going to be? Im sorry, I've mis-spoken, how much SHOULD IT BE? Now multiplied by the number of actual police working? Now figure in the Fire Dept, cause they settle their contract in the same way. (I dont know about Streets & San, Teachers, and the rest of the City workers)
Are you getting the hint yet?

It's not balls that are lacking, it's honesty.

You don't really think that the cash generated by the sales of 'controlled substances' flows in only one, single direction, do you?

This river of profit has many branches.

You want to reduce the use of illegal drugs, legalize them all.

The process of attrition will remove those users whose instinct for survival is less powerful than their desire to use, and abuse, said substances.

Those users who can manage their taste for said substances will do so without any more harm to society than those presently satisfying their taste for alcohol and tobacco products, prescription drugs and many other substances not legally prohibited, possibly with less harm.

But that would mean removing the artificially imposed factor that raises the price of these consumer desired products, thus removing the obscene profit from the business of dealing in them.

And that's not something those who get wealthy from this area of the 'drug' business want.

The makers of law could put an end to this unconstitutional infringement on our freedoms, and remove the money from the business of 'dealing drugs', if they didn't have a personal, financial interest in not doing so.

You do the math.

OT-Can someone please tell me why the 006th dist never has any property bags, narcotic bags, contact cards, misc x cards, impound reports, etc? Seriously, I am not sure if the po's there are bogarting the stuff to prevent outside units (like myself) from using them or they are just flat out? Don't even get me started on the lack of computers and their piss poor lockup...
..................................
Trust me, if we had them to give we'd give them to you..For some reason I'm not privy to, 006 is always given much to little of everything. And if you don't like our lock-up how do you think we feel. Now if anyone gave you a hard time about computers, well, sorry. But again we are way short and of those we have, 1/4 are usually broken. Just be thankful you didn't need to borrow a squad, we don't have enough of those either...

Sorry pal but the entire working city is short that crap and half the computers are broken in ever district. Good luck finding a working printer in my district.

Illegal under 2". So the company will start to make them 2.25" and increase the price by a nickel. What a ridiculous idea.

I am a 'civilian'. To be correct, I am the only one in my immediate family who is. To be more correct I went into 'computers' but somehow found myself inclined to go after criminals in that relm. Anyways, I have as a hobby coin and stamp collecting and simply totally 'gobsmacked' at the alderman's proposed. I routinely use such proposed banned products to store low value material and never imagined I would be even suspected of being a criminal for possession of or conveying such to fellow coin and stamp collectors. Of course I purchase a decades worth at a time and most often merely give some to fellow collectors/'dealers' as a favor and expecting favor in return - so I admit I 'traffic' in such proposed banned small 2x2 acid free poly bags and have for many years and likely not be effected for many years one way or another. But even if so it's no skin off my nose as I'll merely put the coins in 2x2 folders and pass the price increase on to the customer - a cost increase orders of magnitude less than Stroger's tax - Like maybe I increase the price 2-cents and I'm not sure my customers would even notice. Of course my coins don't usually sell anywhere near the cost per ounce of drugs. So the 2 cent increase in my cost isn't going to be even noticed in the 2 cent per ounce increase in cost of packaging differently for cocaine for example. And where was the FOP outreach to to the alderman to provide him the cop view on the street to prevent him from proposing such a rediculously stupid thingy in the first place? Is perhaps the FOP just as reactive instead of proactive as they seem to claim the white shirts and the nomenklatura are? (google it if you don't recognize the term). Just I'd hate to think that someday I'm the traffic stop on the way to a coin show and an honestly good cop wastes his/her and my time as I happen to have a large bag of 2x2 acid free ziplok baggies full of old coins along with empty ones on my way to a coin show... This is stupid. The way to fight drugs in our city is to target the nomenklatura. Sure keep pressure on the street level, but you are not gonna impact the problem until you move up the food chain from the street dealers who are like mosquitos during summer. Sure all those blue light specials are fine, but its like 'bug zappers' unless you go after the standing water where the mosquitos breed you simply remove mosquitos to allow others to move in. The flow of drug money endures uninhibited by zapping mosquitos as there is no end to the supply of them. This is not to say that 'slapping mosquitos' isn't in and of itself when it is busting low level dealers a good thing. Its a 'metaphor' about how thing could be done better in *addition* to slapping mosquitos. Slapping mosquitos is a good task, and far more effective in the drug war than doing nothing. My point is merely to point out that going up a level is a force multiplier not a replacement for.

You'd first have to spell it correctly for me to "google" it. Why don't you try a dictionary instead?

Unit 051 - happy days are here again! said...
Ding Dong, the wicked witch, the wicked witch is dead!

Looks like Dorothy landed her house on the Wicked Witch of Airports!

All the little munchins of Carroll's club are shaking and pooping!

Donnie was found hiding in the wheel well of a 747 heading for Brazil with the busboy from TR"s.

Sgt. Roy BoooooooFoooo was seen buying 17 packages of Imodium from the little store in Midway.

Sgt. Tim was seen pounding on the door of the Wizard of Oz asking for some brains and some bravery.

K-K was observed shivering in the Sgt.'s closet.

The Airport Secretary was observed returning her Lexus leased vehicle asking for a refund now that overtime is dead.

The Airport K-9 cops were observed training their dogs to attack stuffed life-like copies of Jimmy and Donnie so they will attack on sight if they enter the airports.

Molloy offered Jimmy and Donnie the use of his Florida condo and hot tub to soak their miseries away!

And the Commander's car was repo'ed by J-Fed!

Sad day in Chicago aviation history.

P.S. Now go follow the yellow brick road out of dodge! Some bring happiness by coming, some bring happiness by having the door slam on your ass!

3/07/2008 12:19:00 AM

Share the good news brother:
050 is happy too. Carroll was the festering sore on the airport's ass.
And don't send those stupid sragents of yours when they get dumped. we still have gonsalez.

P.S. you can send malloy though; pretty but dumber than a box of road flares.

This is just an observation but, he (Fioretti) is walking through the park when he notices all the crack wrappers. His response, rather than request more policing of the park, is to ban the wrappers the drugs are sold in.

Am I the only one seeing this?

You know, it's been proven that hair coloring can affect your thinking. Look what happened to Liz Taylor.
