Another TASER Killing
The talking heads are all over this one. Trouble is, once again, there's not a single piece of evidence that says a TASER killed him:
An autopsy Wednesday proved inconclusive for a 24-year-old man who died after being Tasered by police on the Southwest Side.
Roberto Gonzales, 24, of the 4800 block of South Wood Street, was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Gonzales was Tasered in the 2700 block of South Trumbull Avenue, the medical examiner's office reported.
About 7:30 p.m., police took a man -- reportedly high on drugs -- into custody after he caused a disturbance at an unidentified location in the Marquette Police District.
Oops! There it is - "reportedly high on drugs." Once again, the specter of "excited delirium" comes into play. We give this another year or two before someone comes up with a better name for it, but the fact is, if someone is whacked out on chemicals and the police restrain them from hurting themselves or others, they may die and it will have nothing at all to do with a TASER being used.

The hospital killed him with the three shots to clam him down..he was alive for 20minutes after the second tazeing. Right after the three shots is when he went into the flat line. All the CPD personnel did a great job. The tazer has a camera on it and shows the truth.

the papers left out the most important facet of young robertos life, that he was a known active member of the Latin Kings. everyday he wore the colors and tattoos. why would the press deprive him of what he held so dear. and never mind the times he has sat in the area for a shooting that fell through due to some technicality. but anywhoo, at least they published his eighth grade picture.

WOW, I am just surprised they were able to reduce the size of the electric chair down to a small gadget.
Now did having the offender stand in a puddle of water while holding onto a grounding rod and having jumper cables from the taser to the squad roll battery have anything to do with it?
People forget that the taser was designed to be used instead of a certainly more lethal option, the weapon. So when a taser is used, and it results in a death, it should be noted that the officer has tried using a less lethal means than flat out shooting the individual.

I agree with your final analysis of what occurred, SCC, so why label this thread with the liability moniker "Taser Killing?"
The taser itself is a safe weapon.
I'm willing to bet that hundreds, if not over a thousand Chicago POs have allowed themselves to "taste the juice" during the training sessions. Every Sgt. in my training class received a 2.5 second jolt. If we've all survived, it further bolsters the argument that certain persons we've had to use the taser on to gain control of had lots of other things going on. Unfortunately, these situations do not allow the police to test these folks for what they've ingested into their bodies prior to being tased. At least none of the officers involved got hurt in a roll & tumble with this problematic young man.

Not at all. You do not understand how a Taser works. Read the post at SecondCitySarge. If the city would put tasers in every coppers belt instead of spending money on red light and dash cameras, more people would be saved, there would be less lawsuits, and more coppers would go home safe every day.

I would like to say a few things about this post. First, I have many friends that work in the TRU unit. These men and women are hard workers, and i have nothing but respect for them. We (meaning the CPD) forget that we are all BLUE, and it doesn't really matter where we work just as long as we all stick together. From what i have heard from a good source, meaning these people have no reason to lie. The two TRU officers who responded to the call for help, were just standing there. That is while their fellow officers were fighting with this Gangbanger, they were watching with their hands in their pockets. The TRU officers did not just jump in to help these officers, knowing that these officers had been fighting this gangbanger high on drugs for a few minutes. It wasn't until one of the officers had to tell them to help them out, and even then this gangbanger piece of shit could not be cuffed. I don't know what these two officers were thinking, or if they were just scared to get involved. But we all must remember that when a fellow officer needs help we don't stand around and wait to see what happens. I personally would like to have a word with these two, and give them a piece of my mind. That is, size 11 1/2 ! Everyone stay safe, and back each other up. BLUE THRU AND THRU !
