- One of Chicago's Special Operations cops caught in a scandal reportedly admitted in a 60 Minutes interview that he stole money from suspects and was taught how to lie on reports by supervisors.
- "I don't have my star or my gun, but I'm still a cop," [Herrera] said, according to exerpts [sic].
Exactly what this bozo is has yet to be determined by a court, but "still a cop"? Not bloody likely, not even when he had a star and gun.

Jerry Finnegan and his boys all talked. It was reported in the papers and on Channel 5 News in October 2007 that Finnegan was cooperating with the feds after his Sept 2007 arrest by the FBI for Solicitation to Commit Murder. Carol Marin had the story "exclusively" on Channel 5 News. That means the feds gave it to her on purpose. The original 4 SOS guys, JF, KH, CS, TS were arrested in August 2006. CS, KH, TS are all on bond. People on bond have to appear for every court date. You can assume their cases were continued every month or month and a half for status, discovery, answer to discovery, motions to suppress, etc. etc. That's about 15-20 court dates. In the two years since they were arrested nobody has ever seen any of these guys going into, leaving, or being inside 26th Street for a court date. No trial date has been set. There has been no media coverage of any type of court proceedings since their initial court appearances. Criminal cases don't just disappear into thin air unless somethings up. Anyone who thinks these guys aren't dumping all over each other is DELUSIONAL. They all deserve each other.

I have been in contact with 60 minutes for over 6 months back and forth in regards to the last 2 years my life. The piece focuses on me and the how the police department let things get out of hand. I hope everyone enjoys the piece and there may be things in the piece that you may not agree with or you may love but either way I felt that I needed to get some things off my chest and this was the best way to do it. In 18 years on this job, after good times and bad times in Englewood. A lot of us real police with problems at home, and problems with supervisors on this job still manage to be respectable at the end of the tour. Only a wantabe would say something like' "no gun, no badge, but I'm still a cop". Not true. I have a motion at 26th street that's been getting continued for the last 8 months. CS & TS have been in the room twice for status dates while I've been there. KH has not been there either time.

I seem to remember people coming in to my class at the police academy telling us not to do all the stuff this officer did. Even before I heard it in the police academy I did have a vague idea that stealing and lying were wrong, I didn't really need to hear it at the police academy.
I came on in the era of thieves and drunks. Most of those kept away from me because I developed the reputation of being "square" or a "boy scout."
And now, twenty five years later I have the reputation of one who has never stole, never lied and never perjured myself in court. I also have the reputation that comes with never having a sustained complaint, not one, and never taking a single suspension day.
I remember old coppers comparing how much time they each had on suspension, ha ha ha. Well, I have none, ha ha ha, never indicted either, and I never had to go on 60 minutes to rat some more.
Why is that so hard? I remember one old time cop on his retirement day. We had some cake for him and he said a few words, very few. He said he was most proud that he never tarnished his star. We knew what he meant. I hope to say the same in a couple more years.
