With gasoline climbing toward $4 a gallon, police officers around the country are losing the right to take their patrol cars home and are being forced to double up in cruisers and walk the beat more.
The gas crunch could also put an end to the time-honored way cops leave their engines running when they get out to investigate something.
Some police chiefs think the moneysaving measures are not all bad, and might actually help them do a better job. But they worry about the loss of take-home cars, saying the sight of a cruiser parked in a driveway or out in front of a home deters neighborhood crime.
Any chance that J-Fed could be engineering the entire gasoline crunch in an effort to get Chicago cops more fit? The man is an evil genius we tell you. Evil. Genius.

If this keeps up, it should have a huge impact on suburban sprawl. This would perhaps bode well for Chicago, but its likely the people most affected by price (i.e., poor people) who would be first to make a housing decision based on the cost of travel to work and school.

It's already started, however the reason Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) recently lost their cars was because Lt. J. O'grady (who was the C/O of AFU for only 3 mos) pitched the idea to the bosses that we were "do nothing" P.O's when we are the one's who seize the cars. What amazes me though is that some sgt.'s and favorite pets (A. Alvear, J. Clarke) who coincidentally are all white, get to keep theirs. Why does an administrative pet secretary and administrative sgt. need a car?
If your going to implement new rules do it across the board, not to just some. This is why people have all ready bailed out or are in the process of bailing out of AFU and seeking legal remedies.
Also, if they are going to say that vehicles are issued based on productivity it's B.S. The pets haven't done anything different over the years except piggy back (jump on) other working P.O.'s operations or investigations.
Another violent weekend 3-shot 77th Peoria, 2-shot 1-dies at Trinity Hospital. 85th and Kingston 1- shot another shot in the leg. Audit take home cars for necessity and application to current job. What are the benefits to a take home car other than individual benefits? Why must PO's have a car? Back in the early 80's MMD installed on several cars a device called an auto therm. It kept the warm coolant flowing thru the heater core & the fan on low with the engine turned off. The driver could switch it off if he did not want to use it. The car would stay warm for about 30 minutes in freezing temps. Nice gas saving device.

OCD controls the 1505 funds as well all know. The 1505 funds also pay for the C-car's maintainance, both as a monthly fee to enterprise or if seized to the routine care of the vehicles. Turns out OCD likes to keep close ties on all their cars and what they do with thoses vehicles. When HQ recently asked for a list all unit vehicles (as in rented or seized, veh#, assigned to, etc) OCD seems to have misplaced over 20 cars. But they really fucked because Peterson may be a crazy bastard, but he's is no dumb ass. I suspect he has already pulled the motor maintanance fuel records. Wait, I know that happened already, LOL!!!!

As Supt Weiss implores Chicago officers to be aggressive against crime, 2 aggressive, intelligent, veteran PO's currently working in the 016th district travel 3/4 of a block into 025 and arrest a named wanted homicide offender w/o incident, subsequently processing said offender in 025. The homicide occurred in 016.
Now officers and citizens, I believe this calls for a "Good Job" at the very least, maybe a district commendation or a honorable mention. BUT NO!!!
Supervisors on 3rd watch in 016 bring officers into WC's office and "yell" at them for being out of the district, furthermore they are threatened with CR # or a spar, but are let off easy with a formal admonishment on the Supervising Sgt's log and told you are not getting a Honorable or a DC for this because you went 3/4 of a block outside the district!!!

Here is a few tips to beat those high gas prices due to all of Daley and Strogers' taxes!
I keep a jug with me at TR's Pub. When patrons leave the bar and leave behind 1/2 a drink on the bar, I pour the drink into the jug. By the end of the night, I have about 2 or 3 gallons of alcohol fuel for my car.
Also when you see an elderly lady at the gas station, ask her if you can assist her after she slides her credit card in the pay at the pump credit card slider. Then after you fill her car up, put the gas cap back on her car and tell her she is all good to go! As soon as she leaves, fill your car up with the same gas nozzle! HIC UP BURP FART Opps I JUST SOILED MY PANTS! I get a kick out of doing this!
And another one is to just sit in TR's parking lot and when a guy comes into the bar to drink, siphon a few gallons of gas from his car. You know they are going to be in the bar for a while and by the time they leave, they are so drunk, they will never notice a few gallons missing! HIC UP BURP FART Opps I JUST SOILED MY PANTS!

I would like to give a big thanks to the officers on Beat 935 3rd watch. They are consistently working their asses off making stops and being proactive for us taxpayers who deserve it. Your actions do not go unnoticed and are very much appreciated.

As Supt Weiss implores Chicago officers to be aggressive against crime, 2 aggressive, intelligent, veteran PO's currently working in the 016th district travel 3/4 of a block into 025 and arrest a named wanted homicide offender w/o incident, subsequently processing said offender in 025. The homicide occurred in 016.
Now officers and citizens, I believe this calls for a "Good Job" at the very least, maybe a district commendation or a honorable mention. BUT NO!!!
Supervisors on 3rd watch in 016 bring officers into WC's office and "yell" at them for being out of the district, furthermore they are threatened with CR # or a spar, but are let off easy with a formal admonishment on the Supervising Sgt's log and told you are not getting a Honorable or a DC for this because you went 3/4 of a block outside the district!!!

How about for all those with take home cars, let the city/fleet mgmt come up with a number of gallons of gas per week allowed, attach it to their id card so when they swipe it is deducted. if they go run out their stipend then they have to put some gas in the tank themselves.

nope..."SHE" is clouted with a judge and another boss in the "D" unit. and captain matula (can't write it in caps as I have no respect for him) have no guts to back the work done by his people. In 016 there are really good workers and major dog asses...no in-between. The watches, the tact/ gang teams and the "elite" daytime mission team all have their share of both. The dog asses get what ever they want, sometimes without even asking and the workers get shit on by spineless bosses. Wasn't a bad place to work until the gutless bosses started showing up !

Same rationale could be used for sgts and po's in specialized units. Field lts wear uniforms and have to be at work 8 hrs a day. In special units, they have complete freedom in plain clothes, no radio and unmarked cars. Huge difference. I believe if you lost a car you would stay in special unit. Who are you bullshitting. You would not last one month in a district with the volume of work.

I am not a huge fan of take home cars for any government employees. There are probably a few employees (like dog handlers) where it is appropriate and necessary, but it seems to me that those on duty at any one time in a police department the size of CPD can probably handle what is thrown at them without needing to have some minor power mind join in.
It makes some sense in small departments where there may be no one actually on patrol at some times, but when you have thousands of officers at a time, it seems likely they can handle most anything that comes up.
