Did anyone else catch this? We saw a comment from a retiree in a previous post and did a little digging for this media report.
The two shootings, just 20 hours apart, separated by only one block, had the neighborhood on edge Saturday night.
"It's not really a good neighborhood anyway. People shoot. So after the [earlier] shooting , I was expecting something to happen," said Reginald Finley, who also lives in the area. "You got little kids out here packing for the police. The police, they kill you as fast as a little kid would. They abuse and do us wrong. So, people pack guns for the police."
Seems the shitheads in the 002 District have declared war on the police. Where's the protests that the "little kids" are arming themselves? Where's the marches by Jesse and Phleger and Meeks and every other useless "man of god" who spends more time creating victims and extorting money from their flocks that actually addressing problems?
Mr. Mayor? Reverends? Citizens of Chicago? Get your fucking heads out of your asses. Right now. Because a whole lot of people are going to die very shortly.

You don't understand. The police are an occupying army preventing the community from doing what they want to do; drugs, booze, sex with minors. The only government intervention should come in the form of free goods, services and cash.
Now I ask you, why not let it happen? Why go after the drug dealer or user? Let it go. Let them have it. Drinking on the street, drugs on the street. Why not? The neighborhoods should reflect the community.
The revs teach that the cops are out to get everyone and keep them down. Give them the neighborhoods they want. Police service for those who deserve it, and none for them. It's pretty simple. They'll kill each other sooner if left on their own.

Some of the good citizens feel it is their right to carry guns and use them at their discretion. In fact, they have no such right.
As a police officer, I do NOT have to allow myself to be hurt or injured in the line of duty. If I am threatened I will defend myself.
If the threat can cause great harm or death, I will respond with deadly force. If the offender happens to be a juvenile, that will in no way affect my actions in protecting myself.
To all of you liberals that feel guilty for what you have, and earned from hard work, don't. The segment of society that feel they are entitled to a middle class life, without having to work for it, are feeding off of your guilt.

Charles Thomas from Channel 7 news obviously forgot his Media Day at the police academy years ago. He admitted on the news years ago that he realized cops only had a split second to make a decision. He had killed an unarmed person in a scenerio and was killed on another when he didn't draw his weapon. Last night he had to throw in the mutt who was killed on friday at 58th near Wabash was shot in the back and a weapon was recovered. Rollo, I can speak for him. Joe learned his lesson the hard way. Do not speak at town hall meetings. That said, Joe was a big loss to academy. Now, academy lacks a qualified DUI instructor with street experience. Try asking anyone with DUI experience and teaching skills to work at academy. Impossible task. In-service DUI classes will end and department looses their expert for court. Despite your personal feelings about Joe, he was extremely competent trainer and course designer. Let him waste his talent on the street. Traffic division is useless when asked for help. However, I digress. Everyone makes mistakes or is passionate about certain topics but to dump him over an open forum meeting? Yes he hurt his career by being honest. CPD accomplished their goal. Rollo, not to worry. He learned his lesson and will remain silent. Thank you for your concern.

HOPE...that is what CPD should stand for. Read the article in Chicago's Suntimes PARADE section...throughout the nation, police are being shortchanged in their contracts AND no one wants to be the police.
CPD is being portrayed as criminals in the media during our contract negotiations...manpower is down...now the decent citizens cannot even count on CPD because of doubt & fear that has been planted in their minds from the media. Now the citizens equate CPD with these 'kids packing guns.'

Here are a few of the problems facing the law abiding citizen being challenged to 'stand up':
1. The effective absence of their right to self-defense, due to the presumption that a citizen's use of deadly force which results in the injury or demise of another human being is a 'guilty until proven innocent/justifiable' reality of the legal system.
2. The retaliation factor, given that the lives of law abiding citizens are much less portable than the predators who they would be defending themselves against.
3. The denial of the possession of effective means to defend themselves, and the certainty that, should they merely possess said means, they are subject to prosecution.
4. The 'catch-22' that the police are restricted by, resulting in the substantial loss of the use of discretion in the performance of their sworn duties. Effectively, the police no longer have the individual authority to exercise discretion and personal judgment, once 'on the record' contact has been made. Discretion in police work has become a choice between responding or not responding, with no official respect or weight given to the individual officer's judgment on the scene.
5. The false impression, that citizens have, of the police being anything close to a solution to the problem of the existence of others, citizens and non-citizens alike, who have a completely different, and totally uncivilized, perspective of life.
6. The apparent absence of understanding that the very political, religious and social 'leaders' who claim to be acting in the best interests of the public, are doing everything BUT acting in the best interests of the public.
7. The pragmatic human tendency to weigh the possible consequences of a) standing up to the criminals and b) minding their own business and hoping the shit doesn't fly their way, with the default being choice b).
I'll leave it others to expand on the specific causes of the above.

I simply don't possess a clue! That's shamefull, especially with more than 25 years on this job. My experience has taught me that there are 'shit-heads' out there that don't like, respect or support the police...and thats in most neighborhoods! But reality has also taught me that we, who work in the worst area's of this city, only come into contact with 5% of the population. The remaining 95% in 002, 007, 010, 011, 015 are decent law-abiding citizens who are simply trying to have a life. Yet...there is a tendency to stereotype everyone. If these area's are so bad, so dangerous, you don't care for the Reverends, CBO's, and the policies of this Department...then quit! I'm sure your brilliance, insight, skills and talents will be recognized in the corporate structure, and you will be very well compensated! Why even remain in a position that demeans your character, request you to be a public servant, protector of the peace, etc? Oh...I know...whether it was 18 months ago or 18 years ago, YOU got the call. Someone picked up the phone and begged you. Someone on the other end said, "We need you!" NOT! It seems like that thinking has kept these SAME drug spots in the above districts open and they still have the SAME problems for over 25 years now from what I have learned from the people with your experience. And with your 25years experience, I'm sure you had this SAME conversation 20+ years ago. Now I don't have your experience and I respect the guys that do but if nothing has changed, maybe it is more than just 5% doing bad.

Of course the Reverends and ineffective politicians will blame anything or anybody for violence problems, due to their incompetence and being able to come up with legal solutions, they blame anything other than their lazy, scamming selves.
Things will eventually get better, however, an open mind by ALL is necessary, not passing the blame to others for the numerous problems that confront us all. Common sense is needed, not name calling, or punishing those critical of current situation here, after all, it IS, pretty fucked up, so forget blaming the other persons, and work together for solutions. If something has already been tried and failed numerous times, it's time for a NEW approach, not the same old lame excuse making, and passing the buck.

A very simple UUW trial a little while ago. Jury trial. Saw bad guy drop gun. Jury said not guilty. ASA said, they just didn't believe me over the mope's witnesses.
It really is a new day. Read some of the almost 800 comments on the Trib website about the $7.7 million judgement. Almost all are against the police.
The next time that "man with a gun" who perfectly matches the description starts running away. Do yourself a favor. Let him go.
