Wake up FOP! The mayor has his people doing it. Maybe we need a little bit coming from our side with some pro-police spin on it? From the Tribune:
- On-duty Chicago police officers and any officers who shoot their weapons, on or off-duty, would be required to submit to random alcohol tests under a contract proposal sent to the union.
Police officers also would be forbidden to drink alcohol four hours before any shift.
A second proposal would renew a pilot program, which was tried three years ago, to put officers on 10-hour shifts—a move the city says might improve officer productivity and morale.
What's truly amusing is that the Tribune is probably taking the proposals right off the publicly accessible FOP website and then doing the mayor's dirty work by putting a less than positive spin on it (implying officers who get in shootings could be drunk!) One question though - how can it be "random" if we'd be "required to submit" following a weapon discharge incident?

The Trib story was poorly worded and as such appeared contradictory. The goofball on the copy desk who wrote the headline also was asleep at the wheel.

SCC, I don't see the problem with us submitting to alcohol/drug testing after a shooting. Many other municipalities do it already.
Even the CTA employees have to drop when they have an accident.
It's going to happen anyway, this is the future of law enforcement here...we will be held to a much stricter standard, like it or not.
So what if you ARE drunk when you are involved in a shooting? So what? Is the shooting still judged on it's merits?

Vote no for anything the City offers. WE need to squeeze these bastards, then when the Olympic Committee arrives in Chicago, we have Informational Picketing, which is perfectly legal.
No job action just picketing to demonstrate that we are together, to inform the Committee of the substandard treatment we have received. Most importantly to let this City and the residents know they "fucked with the wrong bull." That the informational picket is a precurser to a major job action. This is a war we need to win.
We should not have to pay for the City's bad judgment I.E. Hire Truck Scandal, Cost over runs in the park, Pork Barrel projects for the Mayor's people and the City Council's people as well.
Vote nolet us call attention to our plight, never have so many suffered for the sins of so few.

10 hour days it is about time! Most every dept has went to this but ours! maybe then we could get some real time off! But then again will I work harder? NO! Again where is flop? asleep at the switch as usual! Quit planning all the golf trips and get into the meat and potatoes of this!
Just make sure it is four 10 hour days! None of this five 10 hours days for nine weeks then four.....you get the point! The FOP and the city sleep in a twin bed! Get that straight! And make sure that V-days P-days etc equal 10 hours! None of this, "putting a slip in for two hours to balance the difference." FOP and the city are coming soon in a Trojan Horse!Beware!

I find it outrageous that the public doesn't know we work 6 days before we receive a day off yet most bosses work 5 or 4 days before a day off. When I tell people this they say no way you get overtime for the 6th day. Telling me how I'm full of shit as the fair labor act says after 40 hrs you must be paid overtime.(I tell them it doesn't apply to the cpd) Fop needs to tell the public about all the shit we put up. Why do I have to call in before I know what time I work??? I have 26 years yet don't know what my hours are or how to plain my day, what time can I pick up my kids or make a doctors appointment. last week my hours started out with 7am Mon-8am tues-530-wed-lockup10-thur-and on and on. FOP tell the public.

You know who is to blame for our contract? The officers. How many people even voted last union election? SHit u didnt even have to leave the house to do it. If officers would spend half as much time going to union meetings as they do bitching on here about so and so's take home car we might actually get a decent contract.

'Cause you've got a three and a half year wait to go into action. 7 out of 10 active FOP members couldn't find the time to mail back their ballots.
The FOP wont negotiate in the press or just wont negotiate, its been a year and we get crapped on everyday. hey mark how about telling mayor mumbles to go F*ck himself. I didnt believe in this slow down screw the city BS but the hell with this my gas bill is going up my insurance is going up food prices are through the roof I cant afford a vacation and the kids tuition is going up. Guess what doesnt go up my paycheck. Well screw this city and screw there enablers the FOP.
If I'm in a shooting off duty and I have some beers in me "so what". If I was right in firing my weapon or saving a life or stopping an armed robbery then again "so what" If I was drinking. This city is so full of shit. In-fact, after the shooting I'm going to crack open a beer and celebrate life, that I'm alive and maybe a victim was saved all because of my actions.

It is nice that the contract doesn't provide for our child's occupational therapy for a neurological condition he was born with. Thank you. We are sinking further into debt trying to pay for the therapy visits.
We were told by the city to go to the public school system for free therapy in addition to schooling. There are a few local schools in our area. We were told by our local school staff that our child may not get to go to any of them. That none of our surrounding schools may provide the therapy our kid needs. Not to mention that the schools are underfunded and understaffed.
Our child by the way is high functioning, can walk, is toilet trained and is verbal. The school should be able to provide help in our local area.
One of us has to be home with our child. Therefore, I stay at home. We have my loss of income. We cannot put our kid in daycare with his disorder at this time nor can afford the high costs. We were also told to try a not for profit agency. Guess what? If you are middle income forget getting much of discounted help.
Our young child needs help so we just slide further into debt so that our kid gets help that we pay out of pocket for.
My family member works hard for this crap ass city as a police officer and for what? A contract that will not provide for the o.t. our kid needs? Or decent behavioral therapy services? The payment for behavioral therapy services(which our child might need in addition to occupational therapy) aren't too great either.
Has anyone ever dealt with Encompass Health Management Systems that precertifies BCBS insurance for treatment? This is who the city works with when you have BCBS ins. If you have dealt with them you know they are a royal pain. You can provide documentation from a Dr. stating what your child needs and that still does not necessarily matter. They will manage to keep your Dr. on hold for a half hour and keep demanding more medical info that you have already given to them for medical precertification reviews.
For all the talk about the mayor wanting to provide a museum for the kids in the city, how about helping to give the city worker's a new contract that includes better insurance! You can bet if this was his grandchild Encompass would precertify treatment.
No one expects to have a sick child and if you do have a child that needs help I am sure one would think that insurance would help their kid get the services they need right? Wrong! Not in the City of Chicago. There are other parents like us(middle income city workers) that the contract with the insurance plans for city workers do not provide for occupational or speech therapy. There are families whose kids have neurological disorders far worse even then our child's. What about them? We are not at poverty level so too bad for us. We qualify for nothing.

We really don't truely have a "Real" Union, as a real Union has only one purpose, to look out for their constituancy in EVERY regard, which FOP has NEVER done. Wake Up people, we are being "Circle Jerked" by our

Why hasn't the FOP ever questioned thru the Media the obvious Stalling by City Hall, in order to keep the interest on raises in the City coffers, and the obvious stalling of our contract, which, if settled, would allow us to keep our OWN interest in the bank, not the City. It's not done for other Unionized City-related employees. Why has our so-called Union not told the City to Absoultely NOT start out by offering our members a slap-in-the face 1% pay raise, when the cost of living is soaring, and the job is even more dangerous as proved by FBI Assaults on Law Enforcement Officers Statistics.

We , as CPD members, Immediately hold a Vote of NO Confidence for, Mayor R. Daley; FOP Lodge #7, and anyone else who does not take the steps to make sure we are the highest paid in the Nation, with reasonable working hours, fair promotions, the best equipment money can buy, a fair disciplinary system, not the Good-Ole-Boy Club, and equal pay for equal work by properly disbursing manpower, without leaving low crime neighborhoods gutted by doing so. I'm tired of doing 4 times the work everyday of some cops up by O'Hare Airport or the 18th District, just because I've chosen to raise my family on the southside, where I was born and raised. As far as the Bad Apples that have given the Media a field-day regarding Corruption Investigations, why not tell the truth and it would be known that the majority of the officers involved in the criminal incidents of the past several years were politically connected, and put there by CLOUT. Thats why the cloutless hard working patrol Div. officers get in little trouble on duty, as they just do their jobs and stay straight because of good ethics, morals, and the fact that they , unlike the Finnegans of the Dept; don't have a CLout Chinaman to get them into a good spot and get them out of trouble for their corrupt acts, if only discovered inside the City, not the Feds, etc.

Want to replace the leadership at the FOP? Then start organizing now and have a full slate of fully prepared candidates who know the rules and by laws and the contract and are willing to take much of their own time off to work to get elected. And be prepared to have a fund of your own money to pay for mailings etc.
Time to start is NOW, not three months before the next election. The winner will be the one(s) who are best prepared and best financed and even then there is no guarantee the next regime, if there is a next regime, will be any better than this or previous FOP regimes.
Remember, whoever is elected will still have to deal with THE CITY OF CHICAGO! We cannot strike and they do not have to negotiate fairly. The result of negotiating with people who take marching orders from Richard M. Daley is the FOP always will look bad. Nothing they can do except to take the City to court constantly and file unfair labor practice actions. That is what you get when dealing without the power to strike or take a job action and you are dealing with the Daley Administration.
Do you think the next FOP president will have any better luck dealing with Daley? Why? Because he or she might be more articulate or persuasive?

You work 40 hours in a calender week.
Contract says your starting time can be changed +/- two hours every day. So if you are assigned to a 0800 start on paper, you can start at 0600 or 1000 any day of the week. Don't like that? take it up with the FlOP.
