Hard Work Yields Confession

We lament often about the abysmal clearance rate. So it's only fair when a good job is done, we acknowledge it:
  • "This was one that stood out," said Detective Tim Murphy, standing alongside Detectives Dan Stover and Neil Maas. The officers had been working around the clock since Friday, when the tip came in.

The detectives talked to the witness several times, gaining his trust, eventually leading to information that identified Williams as one of the killers, Stover said.
As undermanned as Patrol is, the D-Unit is about as depleted. And it shows.

But this was an excellent job in trying circumstances.

WOW...HARD WORK YIELDED A CONFESSION THAT WILL BE THROWN OUT AT COURT BECAUSE THE DEFENDANT WILL SAY HE WAS COERCED. THE DEFENSE WILL SAY THE DET'S ARE ALL PART OF A CORRUPT SYSTEM OF CROOKED CHICAGO COPPERS.

NOW LEAVE ME ALONE, I MUST GET SOME KLEENEX AFTER HEARING WHAT A GREAT JOB THE DET'S DID.

re shooting this a.m.:

This is the first time I've EVER heard, from the talking heads of the broadcast 'news' media, that a police officer was "...in fear of his life..." as the reason why he shot a fleeing offender.

Channel 5 news at around 05:00.

I wonder if that part of the sentence will be repeated later in the day.

Nope. Already been rewritten to omit even the suggestion that the shooting was justified.

The graveyard shift copy editor must not have gotten the memo stating 'never have our talking heads say anything that might be construed as being supportive of the police when a 'citizen' is shot by same'.

I commend these Det's for the job they did but I do agree with the first post,"DOES ANYBODY REALLY CARE ANYMORE".The fucked up liberal attitudes of those in control make this a lost battle.Nobody's on our side. Not the city. Not the ASA's.Especially not the judges.GOOD LUCK ON YOUR CASE OFFICERS.And I mean that! See post about Burge. These Detectives will be vilified in court for lying, cheating, stealing from, and toruring these poor choir boys. Just remember when the media tried to do the same thing to Kris Kato at Area Four years ago. The only problem was that the shit birds alleging torure couldn' agree on a single decription that matched Kris

Why hasn't the news reported the beating of a white man by four arabian men.

On June 9, 2008 a man walked out of his home and was beaten by four arabic men who yelled racial slurs calling him an american pig and the white devil. The white man attempted to flee to his car where the men began stoning the victim.

The men were arrested and charged with a hate crime by 16th District Officers. Its funny how it the media ignored the story. If it was reversed, I think it would be national news.

Congrats Tim. Whether or not anyone cares there are many good Detectives on the job who care. Say what you want but Tim Murphy is did a great job. If you want to lie down and play deae, give credit where credit is due. Some people do still care about the job, no matter what crap gets thrown our way. If you don't like the guys in patrol, the D or anyone else who still believe in what they do, keep it to to yourself. Don't knock those who still care. They believe in what they do. Not for anything, but personal satisfaction. It feels good when you make a difference.

From someone who knows and still cares.

we dont need that many people in patrol. if half this department just did what they were supposed to do we could have less officers on the street. deplete half of the districts in the northside and transfer them to the southside. also dont take an hour to clear a job, and dont let 4 cars go down on an arrest. 009th district is notorious for doing this type of bullshit. do your job, clear withing a reasonable time, and transfer more people from the northside. we all know the n.side doesnt do shit..........

Lets give kudos to the detectives finally something positive for our department that has taken a lot of hits this year and will continue to take hits because of the media and of our oustanding leadership that is only interested in screwing with working men and women.Congratulations and a job well done!

There were 4 homicides from yesterday evening till early this morning (Thursday) in 004, 008, 010, and 015. Also, two separate police shootings in 004 and 005 during the same time frame. Has anyone taken a look at the "quick stats" on I-Clear crystal reports lately?? Agg Batts are up big time and gun recoveries are way down compared to last year. Homicides are up around 14 or 15 too. It's gonna be a violent summer people, so be careful. The bad guys know we are "down & out" and that the city and J.W. don't back us. The city is going to wish that they didn't punish everone else in the department due to a couple of scandals involving a samll corrupt percentage of the department (S.O.S., Abbatee, Jefferson Tap, 022 Tact, etc; etc).

OT Why do people keep refering to the fact that Daley was SA when Burge and his boys were having fun. The SA is just a figure head/administrater. Just like the Head of the county sheriff, city fire department, police department, head of the water or sewer dept and so on. They only get in front of the camera for photo ops. They don't try cases themshelves.

Do you think Devine tries cases?
Does Madigan try cases for the state?
How about Mukasey for the U.S.?

They are just a mouth piece.

I know that Daley has been dirty for yrs, but we can pin everything that an employee does on him.

If the Supp took a hit for everytime a cop took a bribe or did something wrong. J-fed would have been gone after a day.

Hmmmmm thats not a bad idea

There are some of us who will be eternally grateful for all homicide detectives and the good work that they do. I just hope that the families of these victims will be just as grateful.

Great detectives do great work even under the most difficult circumstances.

This was clearly a massive investigation that certainly went through many "tips" before getting to the answer. This department and the States Attorney's Office has put up many roadblocks in homicide investigations to protect themselves from civil liability and media lies.

The media doesn't give a f#ck about imprisoning murderers. The citizens don't give a f#ck about solving cases. The ASA's don't give a f#ck about charging criminals. And the heads of this department clearly don't give a f#ck about clearing cases.

At least these coppers cared.

Good work.

As a tenured detective, it is really, who could care less.

In the long run, we are always the assholes. Seen many-many excellant dick's thrown under the bus by silly-silly midget mayor.

If anyone notices the tend is that 26th, street court house have fewer cases everyday.

A.S.A.'s will be getting laid off due to lack of work.

The war has been won by the perp's , they well know that the once great=late CPD on the street could care less. Keep generating those felony G.O.C.R's.

Is it possible that you are so dense as to not understand that the end goal is to restore this Department to what it is supposed to be, one that not only authentically 'serves and protects' but is appreciated as such, by those it exists to 'serve and protect'?

Or are you one of those slack-jaws who thinks he can kick his dog on a daley basis and that that dog will thank him for it and remain loyal and loving?

Even a kicked dog eventually realizes that his 'master' is unworthy of said loyalty and love.

In this case, the dog in question is generous enough to bite the asshole kicking him, solely to give said asshole the opportunity to see the error of his ways and act to repent and redeem himself.

There is no spoonful of sugar that can help to make this medicine go down.

Even if the diseased motherfuckers deserved an easier way out of the shithole they've dug for themselves.

10%+ raise minimum.

Abolish merit/clout, or whatever you want to label it.

A reasonable and membership approved work schedule.

Abolish city residency requirement for CPD and CFD.

Fully fund pensions by 2010. No excuses.

Absolute requirement for prosecution of anyone falsifying government documents, specifically those sworn statements 'supporting' CR's.

Add whatever else you like to the list.

Bargaining from a position of strength is never pretty.

Neither is achieving that position of strength.

If you can't see the forest for the trees, hopefully you are one of the few left that doesn't.

Or chooses not to.

ummm last I checked Suchoki, Herrera, Finnegan nor Sherry were "do nothings"... as a matter of fact they were "the elite... the go getters" so no, it is not do nothings that give this department a bad name... it is the hair gel go getters... see, the media, the mayor, the ASAs, the feds all have made it clear that they want us to do nothing or they will fire us. So yes, i will continue to do NOTHING and collect my 72K a year being a presence... We have all been reduced to that and the sooner you realize this Mrs. Hair Gel the sooner you will not get fired... welcome to the Jody regime!

Great response...and in addition:

what about the officers who take a leave of absence to serve our country in iraq or wherever they our sent...they come back and develop some unknown cancer/disease...

with the new city proposals, they would be cycled out, no limited duty positions available for them, etc...WHAM, BAM, THANK YOU MAAM!

GOOD POINT to have our pension funds fully funded by 2010...especially with the city's new project proposals eventually costing billions of dollars...fully funding our pension should be small beans.

it's not called a bathhouse. it's called a bathroom, which contains a shower and every house on the north side has one. water comes out and you use soap to wash your body. since you live in a trailer i understand how you could make this mistake.
