A Positive Story

Mixed Martial Arts fighter and Chicago Cop Mike Russow is fighting this weekend in Hoffman Estates:
  • Mike Russow lives in a tough world. Whether it's his job as a Chicago Police officer working the Englewood District or his passion as a rising mixed martial arts star, Russow never is far away from conflict and danger.

He wouldn't have it any other way. The 31-year-old Russow will be putting his MMA skills on display in a 13-fight card Saturday at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.

Good luck Mike. Hope 007 sent a decent sized cheering section.

How many IPRA beefs do you think this guy is going to end up with after this story in the paper? This guy gave Loevey & Loevey hardon's for more than one reason!

I think it was very short sighted to announce that you are a professional fighter of any sort while you are a police officer. Imagine what happens now with any case of excessive force.

I agree! Good luck but that was a really boneheaded move! Now everyone you have to lock up with force can refer to the "bad ass" article!

Seems like he has some good credentials. Connected to Matt Hughes and Monte Cox. He is fighting a good man in Monson, and if he prevails it will be a legitimate win. The guy seems legit. Good luck to him.
He has to really work hard and be dedicated to compete on this level. I wouldn't jump to conclusions that a trained martial artist would be open to more beefs than a regular cop. Most trained fighters have discipline and self control that comes from real confidence.

I wonder if Mask, Punkass and Skyscrape will be there from Tapout?

What happens fifteen years from now when an excessive force beef goes to trial?

This is not a job that you ever want a mention in the paper. Too many people on this job want notoriety.

This guy ain't shit!

I once fought Kimbop Slice BEFORE he was a household name, and I kicked his ass!!

I gave him a BAM with my left, then a BAM with my right, and he went down for the night.

Sweet, poetic, and true!

The Bogeyman says---

Yes, now I am going to get Mike every time there is a CR Number because he is a professional fighter.

I will make sure everybody sues him.

He will lose everything.

I am the Bogeyman--everyone fear me!!!!!

Who the hell cares that he is a P.O.? Before UFC was as popular as it is now, there were quite a few cops as well as military competing.

This is something we don't see too often, and thats good press! Instead you choose to jump on his cases because he's doing something that you could never possibly do

And as far as notoriety? Well you don't know him obviously because he's as humble as they come. And a hell of a nice guy too.

Good luck Mike

Hope he has his own private health insurance. If he goes on the med because he is hurting because of a professional fight, don't think I would pay if I was the city.

I saw this guy fight in Hammond IN. He knocked some dude out with one punch about 10 seconds into the fight. He's really tough, but I wouldn't say that he is up and coming or on his way up. Good luck Mike!!

MMA is pure BS,its a not a real martial art.MMA guys are not skilled martial artists,it obvious by the lack of true skill.

MMA fights are street/bar brawls by white guys on HGH and coke.

I concur. George would whip 3 Westside dudes w/ one hand while using the other hand to keep Billy J. from fabricating some out-of-this-world bullshit.

This just goes to show you how smart this dumb guy is. He just put himself out on front street. He should have never, ever done that interview. I guess when you get the "spot-light" shining in your face you forget about all the legal ramifications that are now coming your way. Way to go dumbass!!! Maybe one to many kicks to the coconut?

Excuse me, if this dumbass city didn't act as if it was stuck in the 1800's... come on people.

Other states and departments are WAY AHEAD OF YOU. Officers participate in many other various competitions, etc. Jesus. Stop your bitching and set aside your differences already and start sticking up for yourselves. There are power in numbers.

Start pushing for your rights already...

There is a ton of things about him that you apparently don't know. He was a loyal family man, just ask the female lockup keeper or the female youth officer. Hmmm. Apparently you only knew him at the end of his career. How is that for classy?

This guy is a humble, nice guy. Yet of course we bash one of our own. All of you jagoffs writing negative things about him, keep this in mind, everyone of us would love to be in his place. This guy has the talent and balls to do what everyman, including yours truly wishes he had. So while we are watching TV this guy is doing it.
Also a statement of the obvious. If anyone of you goofs ever do any police work and have to call a 10-1 (that's police code for "help me I am getting my ass handed to me), I bet you'd kiss the ground this guy walks on when he shows up.
The reason this department is going downhill is our own doing
