- The Lieutenant who wrote the letter on the Lts website advocating the return of the St. Jude's March to Michigan Avenue has been reassigned to the 010th District.
- A PO who brought up some uncomfortable truths at a "town hall" style meeting has been dumped from teaching DUI classes at the Academy.
Anyone want to confirm or deny that this is the price of speaking out?

female who brought up issues at the final PO meeting was not a DUI instructor, she said she knew enough about DUIs that she could teach DUI. What she doesn't know is that to teach some classes at the academy you have to be state certified (for DUI ISP certify you thru 40 hour class).
The truth always gets you dumped or fired in Chicago.
The DUI instructors that don't teach DUI any more are because two left academy cause playing hockey gets more recognition than teaching, One sent to school unit, one retired. You have one civilian and two POs left to teach it.
I agree with the Lieutenant on returning to Michigan Avenue to honor our fallen officers.
I also think that some of the questions or opinions that the Superintendent has received have been off the wall. But from what I have heard, because Sergeants have not been asked their opinion or invited to any meeting with the superintendent, most of the officers have valid concerns.

The Officer's name is Joe Simpson, an yes I do know first hand that he was dumped from the academy to 002. All because he pressed the issue of cameras in vehicles several times to J-Fed during a "Town Hall" type meeting. Making J-Fed contradict himself while commenting on the cameras in police cars. Apparently the 1st Deputy called the Lt. at the Academy and was instructed to dump the Officer quietly. The Lt. said he would not and apparently that was left up to Matt Tobias!

If Mo got transferred, you can bet it was because of Steve Georgas. When she informed him that she was not "volunteering" to be the CAPS lieutenant, and therefore would NOT voluntarily change her working hours to attend CAPS meetings at night (and then return to be the WC on days in the morning), Greek Boy got pissed. Place the blame, if any, where it truly belongs.

The 18th dist Lt was not dumped for her letter. She had a cush CAPS Lt Spot. Was told she had to attend Caps meetings, she did not want to move her schedule around. She tells the D.C. "im not the Caps Lt I was just helping out." The D.C. wanted a CAPS Lt , so now he has one. (so what if the New Lt is a Mauer guy or that as a sgt he spent most of his time inside working for keating) The 10th district really has nothing to worry about she is fair and will do what she can to help.

off topic: j-fed or some one at 35th street really responded to Lt. Zigenhorns letter in regards to the location of the St. Jude parade cause she is getting sent to 010.( I'm gonna assume that she did not bid there) As a norhtsider if they really want to bust your balls they send you to 010, look at who has been dumped there in the not to distant past. There is no easy way to get there from the northwest side of the city. Seems like retribution for experssing your 1st Amendment right but as police officers that is given up along with a piece of your soul. Stay strong Mo.

I hate people that post stuff because they have a personal issue with someone. I have just stated all facts that I have seen with my own eyes and I was not one of the P.O.’s that Lt. Ziggenhorn has helped. I still work on a beat car on 1st watch for the past 15 years!!!
spent the entire period writing about one book of parkers. most of those were on assignments. also rolled in a timely fashion on all my jobs and handed out paper when necessary. also backed up fellow po's on other jobs. it felt good not having to roll out of the sack for court 4 or 5 times. no cr's or trr's or trips to ops/iad. no ripped uniform shirts or pants and went home with a good attitude. also had a healthy dinner each night-- i can get into this new type of police work.
The best editorial I've seen in awhile. Think it will make a difference with Hizzoner or J-Fed.

My family comes first. I wish I could say that I love my job like I use to to but I can't. I will still perform my duties, but I will not make the sacrifices I use to make 10 years ago for this job. It is just not worth it anymore. Hearing this lack of support just brings me down.

Lucky to be retiring
I retired on April 15 after 32 wonderful years as a Chicago Police officer. I was always proud to say I was a police officer and was always proud to wear the uniform.
I feel sorry for the younger men and women that have a while to go before retirement. Morale is at an all-time low. Between having a mayor who could care less about officers as demonstrated by his failure to attend the Saint Jude March in May to honor fallen officers, to the city's failure to faithfully negotiate a fair contract every time the contract comes up for renewal. The police union constantly informs the members of the city's stalling and failure to meet in a timely fashion to settle a contract. Also the mayor's choice of an outsider to be the superintendent is a slap in the face to all qualified members of the department.
I guess I was really lucky to have served my time and am able to retire when the getting out is good. Good luck to all my fellow police officers in their careers.

IP address. Big deal! 40+ people have access to my computer and almost all of them are not the police.
I can see both arguments for the locations of the St. Jude Parade. Tradition has it leaning toward one site; the other is to have it by the lakefront Memorial. The argument for the latter that should be respected is the opinion of the members of the Gold Star Families. Many of them like the lakefront site because then the relatives of our fallen heroes (grandkids, children, parents, etc.) are right there to view the memorial. The wishes of the Gold Star Family members should be strongly considered because isn't that what it is all about?

Off the topic. What is the story of the odpo from 017 that got stripped after an off duty bar incident? From what I heard was that he got jumped outside a bar in 024 and tuned up pretty bad. The 024 Lt made him come in and take a breathalizer, which came out positive for alcohol.

I was at the meeting where Joe spoke up. Actually, he claimed his name was "John Doe" as he was worried by giving his real name he might get dumped. Looks like that asshat J-Fed found out who he was and dumped him anyway.
Joe had valid points at the meeting and idiot Jody could not give a proper answer to his questions. I guess it's better to keep your mouth shut then to try to make anything in this department.

I have about 30 yrs in policework, as a P.O., tact, Det; etc, and have never been asked to do anything at the Academy as far as recruit training, but I guess people with 2 yrs. on know more than me.

You are wrong. He was a excellent instructor in the class room and with inservice classes. He was a HRI for recruits. More important was his knowledge of dui/NHSTA program. Very difficult to find qualified instructors with DUI/SFST skills. No more inservice classes unless the traffic unit will ofer assistance. Severe punishment for one mistake.

Do you really think that anyone that is motivated and computer literate can't see what computer you are writing from? It is VERY easy to find this out. He is well respected in the academy by staff and his recruits. He is a true loss to academy. Hard to find an DUI instructors that are willing to teach DUI. He designed a 8 hour refresher class in compliance with IDOT/NHSTA. Other departments asked for his assistance including state police. But he is not needed by CPD? Kiss that class goodbye. No more inservice DUI classes unless traffic division will cooperate. Better odds getting a new contract. Cut off your nose to spite your face. Very frustrating.
