First Line of Defense - Criminals?

Terror rears its head in New York, again, and the only thing saving people is a car thief?
  • A car thief on Thursday night found a bomb-laden van wired to detonate by remote control that likely had been sitting there for more than five months, sources said.

Investigators believe the homemade explosives found on a Brooklyn street in the Ford Econoline belonged to Yung Tang, 39, a Chinese national. He has been behind bars since he was caught Jan. 29 in Wallingford, Conn., with nearly identical bombs in his Mazda MPV minivan.
So if we could just train every single car thief to recognize bombs and bomb making material in the autos they steal, we'd pretty much have that threat eliminated. It's just a thought.

just because they're criminals doesn't mean they're un-american. during WWII, many prisons made goods for the war effort, and the prisoners were glad to help. they felt it was their duty. that being said... thanks shithead. you get a pass.

According to the New York Post:

A thief who broke into the vehicle as it was parked on 53rd Street near Second Avenue saw the explosives, then drove the van from the mostly residential block to a remote location near the waterfront.

The thief, who has an arrest record, then phoned a cop he knew from a previous run-in with the law.

The car thief was not expected to be charged.

Hey SCC, here's why it's better to shoot a wild animal than try and tazer the damned thing. A crazy fox goes nuts and attacks innocent civilians and a female officer tries (unsuccessfully) to use a tazer on it. It just goes to show how clueless the animal rights crowd really is...

Why not the mayor thinks that gang bangers from the taste are great! We should just deputize them for the mayor, and maybe they could all work his valet detail and do a better job!

Ok! This just goes to show how stupid criminals are!! Soooo he was breaking into a car? and instead of getting out of it he still stole it and drove it to a remote area??? I bet he didnt realize that bomb was in there until he was ready to strip it and said "oh lordy what did i gets myself into now???!!!!"

I also will agree that he most likely expected a reward!!! Oh does he also want his whole criminal record expunged????

...guess he didnt watch the video on setting up bomb threat perimeters did he??hahahaha!

Back around 1939, a Scotland Yard detective (later the head of SY) found and disarmed an IRA bomb in on the street in Piccadilly Circus. A few days later, he was summoned to a secret meeting by a CI he knew. When he got there, all the regular Piccadilly grifters presented him with a medal in gratitude.

Even crooks don't care for the neighborhood getting blown to bits.

Probably a very good thing that the above incident did not occur in Chicago.

Because I bet that about 78% of the coppers on this job would have parked that van in front of the mayor's abode.......
