The media has written a few articles about how he's looking at almost a billion dollars less that previously estimated due to various economic realities.
We'd imagine if the deal is being finalized, it includes a number of Daley's relatives who work at various banks that will be providing the bonds or loans or administer the monstrous amount of cash heading this direction.

What is going to happen in 10 or 20 years, long after Mayor Daley is gone and we don't have any of the money left from the sale of these revenue producing properties? Compounded with the fact that the city will not be receiving the revenue that these properties were producing.
Between Midway, the Skyway, the Underground parking lots we sold, the city will be losing a billion dollars a year in lost revenue.
I wish the media would address these predicted problems and ask point blank questions to Daley and his cronies about it.

How much of it is going into our pension? The only things we should be concerned about right now are the pension and coming in a distant second, the new contract. The deal is done. The DOA guys, if they choose to stay, will be sent to O'Hare. The airport was sold to a French-owned company. The FAA had no problems with the sale. This is not to say they thought of it as a wise or discretionary move, but rather the sale was done properly, so they had no beef. This is very, very bad boys and girls. This may be the biggest line Richie crossed yet. When the French tire of the airport, who will they sell it to? Guess what who France is home to? The largest Muslim population in Europe. Fascinating.

FAA approvalwas also needed for the closing of a small lake front airport called Meig's Field. And even though King Mayor Daley didn't have that FAA approval, he sent in bulldozers in at midnight to tear the runways up and close it down.

In order to sell or lease Midway there had to be legislation passed in Springfield. And in the law was that a % HAS to go to the pension funds.

they had a welcome home celebration for a bunch of WW2 vets
apparantly there's some organization that flys all the WW2 vets to Washington D.C to see the WW2 memorial that was just dedicated.Anyway there were bands and people waving flags when they got off the chartered plane and Lt.Gov Pat Quinn to greet and thank them.Very touching made me get a little misty eyed.
When I got off work and stopped at the parking lot shack Pat Quinn was next to me driving an older model Taurus paying for his own parking,and he was alone!
Now I have more respect for the gangbangers in Englewood than I do for "ANY" Illinois politician,you have shortshanks,blago,and burke,running around with their mini armies of bodyguards/chauffers/diaper changers,just to feed thier egos and Quinn does it all by himself.I guess its the differance between a child and an adult.Just wanted to give an attaboy to Lt.Gov Quinn.But i'm still voting republican.

The truth is he did not sell the Air Port, the Skyway or the parking lots! The city simply leased the operations to the highest and best connected bidder. This is a lease to operate them. The city still owns all of them 100%.
The city is counting on each of them to fail. Under the lease agreement when they fail it all reverts back to the City so they can lease it to the next sucker.
Look at the skyway for example. Thats a 99 year lease. In 10 years the new operators will have raised the tolls to $5.00 or more. The infrastructure will be crubling. No one will use it now that the Borman and Dan Ryan have been rebuild. The company operating the skyway will default and the city gets to lease it again to someone for Billions.
Now we all know the Miget will say he had no choice but to lease the Air Port because the Police demanded a raise in these tough economic times. And the Republicans fucked up the world economy.
Once again it's all OUR fault.

Before the chicago skyway was went private citizens paid 1.75 to cross, coppers did not pay because we policed the skyway on and off duty.
After going private it went to 2.00 and the coppers were now charged.

I was at the meeting with the yellow toothed commander and shortshanks. CPD will remain as the stabilizing force and private security will supplement the "police presence" while the TSA suit up in their blue shirts and stinkin' badges to give the impression that the "real" police are there in greater numbers.

It was pulling in just over 72,000,000 a year when it was sold.
The only reason that it may appeared to "lose money" is because Mayor Daley was skimming off the top more than the mob was in Vegas.
Now with the recent toll increases, the estimated yearly revenue is over $100,000,000 a year. If you cant throw some asphalt down and keep an existing roadway up and running for under this amount, your also skimming tons off the top.

The skyway owners pay for cpd, the same way the enw midway owners will do when the lease is finished! All the avaiation employees will be gone, the fleet guys there will also be replaced but cpd and cfd will remain as a constant!

This guy has a valid point,why are we providing free traffic and vehicular control on the Skyway now? The Chicago Skyway is a 100% private entity. The CPD/City of Chicago should get paid for the service.
The CPD/City of Chicago should bill for any policing at a private airport too.
Lt. Governor Patrick Quinn has always been a thorn in the ass of the machine. He consistently displays his respect of the military by attending as many functions as possible,funerals,wakes,homecoming ceremonies,dployment sendoffs,etcetra. He also loves the police,EMS and firefighters, unlike almost all the other Illinois/Chicago politicians.

Called a buddy friend of the commissioner at O'Hare told me "he is no fan on the new regime at both airports" To bad so sad! The big "Thanksgiving change" is coming!

You would not have said anything except ok sah I be gone feets don't fail me now! Trust me I am a sargeant who was a Federal Task Force Officer and I got the creds and badge as a souvenir. Being with those guys is like being on top of the food chain! If you had been there in that situation with the USSS you would have shut up and meekly left. The other coppers would have pretended not to hear the exchange and averted their eyes. When I was assigned to the HIDTA I heard about a state trooper in Pennsylvania who got his behind locked up by feds after stopping some feds who were on a surveillance and were driving at a high speed in excess of the speed limit on the Penn Turnpike. Apparently the trooper started talking shit and delaying the agents and the fed squad supervisor ordered that the trooper be arrested for obstruction of justice. Guys that HIDTA spot was sweet. I'm back in patrol after being away since 1997.
Boy it sucked coming back. The HIDTA ASAC tried to get me to come on board but I have relatives here and didn't want to give up my side jobs, plus the wife wouldn't relocate. Now I am divorced, live with my parents, and no longer have the side job. Too bad I pissed off Cronin. He thought I was too friendly with the feds because there were things I wouldn't tell him about some of my cases I my guys was working on in the HIDTA. That man went to Cline and and got me dumped straight to a south side district without one damn Starbucks, in a New York minute. Hell I had to buy uniforms because the old ones didn't fit and I always borrowed uniforms for inspections. Man I didn't even get sent to OCD first, I went straight to the deep south in a district with no ammenities. Imagine having to do squad cars again,no take home rental car, no more steady OT, CR numbers, ghetto drama, fat ugly folks not the beautiful people you see on a summer day in the loop, logging dim witted po's who are clueless, and listening to BS all night long. Like a dumbass while I was in HIDTA I didn't even take any promotional exams. I thought I would be there forever. Boy that gravy was good while it lasted. After getting back in patrol even after three years it is still a mystery to me. I still dream about HIDTA nights. It was wesome showing da ladies those fed creds.

A little time for review...the long term lease of Midway Airport is the by product of a program initiated by the Federal Government which allows airports owned by local government entities to lease the airport to private entities. Interested parties submitted proposals after reviewing extensive data pertaining to all assets, ie, number of enplanements and flights, parking revenues, an audit of all physical assets of the airport. Proposals were submitted by 5 agencies deemed qualified by a review panel. During a "due diligence" period of 30 days, the lessee is to be selected and from that point a transition period of approximately 12 months will occur.
With regard to the security of the airport, the LEO will be the CPD. The private operator will be required to provide all other functions including security. The plan also calls for the security provided by the private operator to have equivalent training and experience as the current security force.
In addition, all interested bidders are afforded the option of contracting with the city for individual airport services (like the buy back services the police were providing which was funded by the feds)
As far as the revenue streams the City is trying to plug, as mentioned a few months back, the City hasn't offset the expenses of the Police and Fire contracts which date back to 1981 or 1982. So, contrary to what you see written so often here about Daley & Company stealing the City blind, the expense involved in improved retirement benefits gained in contract negotiations, they havent offset that cost since 1982. That's 26 years of revenue going out that hasn't been coming back. You can talk to your insurance guy or any actuary to figure that one out. Compound that with the medical benefits, a wrongful death civil lawsuit here or there, a Finnegan and Abbate there, and you got yourself a perfect storm for municipal bankruptcy.
With regard to the Olympics, consider the idea of being able to get some federal funding for needed infrastructure improvements, and the ability to put thousands of people to work for six years. I could give a shit about the Olympics, but almost every summer Olympics made money.
All of that taken into consideration, how would you offset the expenses of providing essential services to the city. Talking about firing all the alderman makes you sound like an asshole, how about a sound suggestion that wouldn't break the taxpayers back even further?

Regarding PO at the airport.
When a city employee ( police, fire, etc ) is detailed to the aiport, the dept of aviation reimburses the city for the employee. We get money for the CPS for school oficers, money from the skyawy company for traffic officers, and the doa and feds pay for the guys at the airport, and the city makes a service fee in addition for the paperwork. So none of these are paid for by the police budget.
