Unforeseen Fallout

One of those little things that doesn't make it to the bog headlines, but is a big deal anyway:
  • Moving all the FTOs to six "training" districts means a lot less TASERs on the street.
After all, only Sergeants and FTOs are authorized to carry the non-lethal control instruments. If you give up your FTO status, we'd imagine that you have to give up your TASER card. After all, there's no order to the contrary. We'd imagine that when deprived of this useful tool, more police will be forced to resort to the lethal option more quickly. After all, the only rule that matters is the one that reads, "go home safe at the end of your shift."

By the way, where are those 300 TASERs supposedly winging their way to Chicago to supply everyone with them? Could someone provide the UPS Tracking Number so we can follow the delivery? Or did the deal fall through when the proper "middleman" couldn't be greased fast enough?

You know, like the rifle program.

"THIS JUST IN!" The M4's are coming soon. Special Orders are in the making to have the makers of the M4go out to the disticts and measure the officers trigger fingers for exact fit. Finger prints will also be taken and transfered to the weapon's trigger system so that only that officer can fire that weapon. Special colors will be availible upon request. "THAT IS ALL!"

Did ya ever make out a Christmas Gift list when you were little?

I d like a:
- GI Joe
-A video Game system (Atari back in the day)
-New Bike
-Race Car Track
-Pool Table

Etc. Etc.

Go up to Santa Claus tell him, wish for it, and HE would tell ya to be good and you'll get it!

Then until Christmas morning...you begin to expect it, believe you are getting it, parents make you think you are getting it too.

Then you know your friends had those thing and that made you want them more!

BUT..........

Only to wake up Christmas morning and and find under the tree:

-Some generic version of a GI Joe doll (not what was wanted....)
- A Video PONG component(Back in the day again) some BS video set that nobody wanted but cheaper than Atari....
-NO BIKE but maybe a skateboard
-No race track but clothes
-No pool table and nothing else.

Well this is sort of like what it is like to be the CPD.

Promises promises and many let downs with poor equipment and no respect for what is desired or asked for only budgeted items allowed and items that someone chose for you!

And your friends that had everything already....that is like the other departments that we all see having everything a professional department should have.

A little embarrassing to be the police in Chicago, I think so!

i think they will sooner or later have to option to carry a taser, but probably institute the power test just like the carbine.

it would be nice to carry one and it is a very big deterant to even the biggest guy, because they don't want to ride the lighting as i hear on the radio

The best thing about the taser is that it can fully pop a full bag of popcorn with just two batteries-worth of juice. Much quicker than the microwave in the watch secretary's office.

"THIS JUST IN!" THE MAKERS OF THE M4, ANXIOUS FOR THE CONTRACT WITH CPD, HAVE CONTACTED THE MAKERS OF THE SEGWAY. HEARING ABOUT THE NEW SUPERINTENDENTS FITNESS TEST REQUIREMENT PRIOR TO CARRYING THE M4 AND THE REASON BEHIND THE REQUIREMENT. THE MAKERS ARE LOOKING AT A WAY TO ADD THE GYROSCOPE SYSTEM USED IN THE SEGWAY AND INCORPORATE IT INTO THE M4 PRODUCTION AS WELL AS THE NEW FINGER PRINT RECOGNITION SYSTEM. COMBINING THE TECHNOLOGIES COULD SATISFY 2 DEPARTMENT CONCERNS:

-BALNCE OF THE WEAPON WHEN USED BY OUT OF SHAPE COPS AFTER RUNNING MORE THAN 50FT. THIS WILL PREVENT THE SWAYING DURING HEAVY BREATHING.

-PREVENT WEAPON FROM BEING USED BY ANYONE IF IT HAS BEEN DROPPED BY THAT FAT OUT OF SHAPE COP WHO CAN'T BREATH.

THIS IS A WIN WIN FOR EVERYONE. RUMORS FROM HEADQUARTERS IS THAT THE MAKERS OF TASERS ARE CONSIDERING THE SAME.

"THAT IS ALL"

9/01/2008 11:55:00 AM

That is exactly what happened when they tried this mess in the early 80's. Everything was up for grabs and the white shirts reshuffled the deck, with the FTO's getting priority because they were in a new training district. Partners lost their cars, it didn't matter if you were hard chargers or pooches. Also, partners did not get to work with partners and there was a whole load of new faces running around. It sucked.

WRONG AS USUAL. You have to requalify every year and if you aren't an FTO, SGT, or SWat officer good luck getting requalified. JKust cuz you were once qualified doesn't mean you can carry it. It expires a year from the date you were originally qualified and then upi have to re-up you cert each year. It's usually done same time your pistol is.

There ain't even enough tasers for the SGT's in the districts let alone adding 12 FTO's. The useless FTO's will never use them anyways and neither will half of the SGT's. God forbid they do paper. Most of these underqualified retards are afraid of their own shadows.

There aren't many working tasers on the street anyhow. It takes forever to get them fixed when they go down for low or dead batteries. The holsters that come with them are just crap, and break all the time. Many supervisors don't or won't carry them, fearing liability. I think the City should treat it like the carbine, and allow anyone who wishes to carry one to purchase their own, since they have no intention to provide them for the majority of us.

What a dumb ass! Learn to write before you talk smack about this guy. He'll probably resign like every other FTO doing the job now. I mean really, 024 is the only dist worth goin to. Each District has something to offer in the way of experience. The hard and fast rule SHOULD be is that after they complete their cycles ship them out.

Having only fast districts as training districts is good in a alot of ways - but officer safety SHOULD be paramount. Having so many inexperienced officers on 1 watch or in 1 (or 6) districts is a recipe for disaster. Give em their cycles in the 6 faster districts. Then share the wealth of ppo's evenly throughout the City, no clout, no phone calls to stay. They can always bid back (ha ha ha) if they are so inclined.

Ald. Ruggai touted getting 022 to be a training district once again during her election. Call her ask her what happened. She will love to hear from you. She says having it be a training district means 022 gets more police to patrol in the ward.
