Aldercreatures Keep Bribe Funds

  • Mayor Daley’s tough times 2009 budget — precariously balanced with 929 layoffs, slow police hiring and $52.5 million worth of taxes, fines and fees — cleared its first legislative hurdle on Monday.

But not before a mini-City Council rebellion.

And what would they be rebelling against?
  • Blind-sided by Daley’s plan to charge their treasured aldermanic menus for the cost of replacing broken alley and street lights, aldermen threatened to delay a vote on the $5.97 billion spending plan.
"Aldermanic menu" is the latest incarnation of the "discretionary fund." Each aldercreature gets around $1.3 million dollars or so, to spend as they see fit. It's unaccountable money and much of it is suspected of going to connected friends and relatives who open up odd little businesses to supply aldercreatures with things they couldn't find anywhere else like Office Max or Home Depot. Legalized bribes and graft for most intents and purposes. $1.3 million per is a total of $65 million taxpayer dollars - over a quarter of Shortshanks' budget hole. How about eliminating it and making tax money work the way it's supposed to?

Perhaps it's about time to look at cutting the number of aldercreatures and their wards in half. Anyone know the process?

Thank goodness no one was stupid enough to make any far reaching and over-the-top comparisons:
  • “We are supposedly the legislative branch of government — even though 99 percent of our job is out there catching spears for the administration,” said Ald. Richard Mell (33rd), demanding “some respect” from the mayor.
Um Dick? We're out here catching bullets for you dumb fuckers and the jagoff you're demanding respect from is offering us 1.1% while raising the cost of living beyond anything we could hope to surmount. How about a little bit of reality bites you in the ass? Asshat.

These aldermen should be demanding 6% cost of living adjustments for all city workers!
Why does their cost of living exceed ours???
We have to pay for our cars, our gas! They dont
We should get equal pay according to their rules!!!!
If we are worth 1% then they are worth 1%...nothing more nothing less...
REMEMBER this FOP in contract negotiations...they got 6%..and they get it every year!!!
We should get equal to them...they dont do more than we do...and they are fn part time!

Hi people, Missy here again,

Stop it NOW people, our aldermen work so-so hard to keep our government going.

But, I am red faced mad at alderman Mell talking down to our beloved Mayor. My lawyer husband Ira thinks a 1 1/2 % raise will be good enough for us. Ira said we are nothing more then civil servants and should be paid less.

I do agree somewhat with Ira, he is a former A.C.L.U. Lawyer, very smart, and will be going to Washington to serve our great
44th. President.

To "Mr. SPANKDADDY", I am glad Ira does not have the time to read this great SCC blog. He would be mad as heck for you wanting to be with me while he goes to D.C.

I was married twice before I met Ira. I know men want me, but "no way Jose" buster. You could not handle the Lioness in me, I am 5-3 and back up to my usual 170 lbs. I am no push over buster.

You can only imagine me in heals buster. I am blushing,... I can be a little tease !

My legs are like nut crackers from all the walking I do writing parkers for our hero, the Mayor.

Listen People, stop the hurt-full words about our elected Mayor and his Aldermen. They give so much for so little people.

I say, let us all take a day off without pay, but come to work and just write parkers. I must tell my uncle Tom Byrne (rtd) about this suggestion.

One more thing people, to all those mean people writing nasty things about me in the 018 locker rooms ...stop it. They are probadly the Michigan Ave foot people doing this. These slugs according to my boss will be gone come Jan. Ha-Ha to all these none ticket writers.

Stay safe all,

Missy -018 district

Imagine the money the City could save by having 25 alderman and offices and staff and "menus" instead of 50.

New York City gets along somehow with just 51 city council members and their population is 8.2 million.

Chicago could get along quite well with a 25 member city council. We don't need 50. We don't need 25 police District Commanders either. We could cut District Commanders down to 12 or 13 with ease. One commander to sign paperwork for two police districts. Fewer take home cars, less salary, less of a drain on our pension fund.

Do you think he/she would get writer's cramp? That would be 12 or so fewer District Commander's and District Secretaries.

Millions saved and no one would notice they were gone except the clout babies who would be crying over lost inside spots.

When???

Where the fuck were YOU the last 5 times he ran for re-election? He was re-elected LAST YEAR! Spring 2007 was his last re-election! And you are asking when is he up for re-election as if you might actually do something! What are you going to do, get out there and vote? You'll show him by golly. Wow, I am impressed by your sudden and intense show of citizenship.

I came of voting age in 1972 and have voted in every elections since then, primary, local and presidential.

But I am impressed by your threat to actually exercise your hard won right to vote. Blood was shed to give you that right you know so it is good you finally, at long last actually say now that you intend to use it sometime in the future. Maybe.

Daley runs again in 2011. Mark it down on your to-do list now. Don't forget, even if you missed the last 20 years of mayoral elections.

This is just a guess but do you also complain about the FOP and do you throw your FOP ballot in the garbage can like the majority of officers? Just wondering. At least steam the postage stamp off the envelope before you shitcan the ballot package.

I have lived in my community for over 11 years now and never has my street been resurfaced. Our curbs have never been replaced and no longer even resemble a curb due to weather and people parking on top of them. The neighbors across the street replaced their own curbs. Street cleaning, maybe, MAYBE once a month. We need a speed bump on our street because no one stops at the stop sign...they just glide thru or ignore it all together. So how about you tell us where you think the money is going.

Council OKs $7 million for developer
November 12, 2008 at 11:34 AM | Comments (0)
Taxpayers will pick up $7 million in costs for the creation of a new downtown public plaza at Randolph and Franklin Streets, part of an office project developed by John Buck Co.

The Chicago City Council approved the use of public money for the project today. Called a tax-increment financing subsidy, the money is intended to help the developer with the costs of acquiring the property and preparing the site for construction.

In a statement, Mayor Richard Daley said the new plaza will be a boon for downtown workers, tourists and West Loop residents.

Hey, there are a lot of us who have over 15 yrs on. When I came on Health care was free, I was told I would get free health care when I retired, no 30 percent merit. No BS management bids for watches. I don't know what the original poster meant about the water except to maybe make fun of the 5 cent a bottle tax. Anyways yes taking the job meant living in the city but the terms of my employment change every contract. There is no reason not to fight to have residency overturned.

That would save the tax payers money not to mention it would keep them less likely to be as corrupt because they would always have the eyes from the police on them. That would save the tax payers money not to mention it would keep them less likely to be as corrupt because they would always have the eyes from the police on them. Not to mention they would not need security details anymore because they would be in the station.

If you did that, then many of their constituents wouldn't be able to visit them, as in, why would someone with active warrants willingly walk into the station?

love the idea of cutting alderman to 25 or less but it will never happen the 50 spots ensure enough patronage and give each part of the constituency (black, white, hispanic) enough of the pie to shut them up and provide illusion of real participation. But dont be fooled folks, the REAL money is inside daleys 5th floor and his slush funds out of sight of the budgets and taxpayers. It is just sad that the rest of the populace has to settle for being bought off so cheaply and settling for so much less. But you get what you vote for and shame on everyone.

The annual city budget is voted on each year around Thanksgiving. The published copy is about 800 pages long. You can see one at the regional library. You can go department by department. Personnel costs as well as capital expenditures. If you would really, and I mean really like to see where all the city money goes, take a look at the Chicago Police Department. It may surprise you to see that CPD eats up about 60% of the city's budget. So when you start talking about the thieving aldercreatures, take a minute to look at your unit roster. Do you see a lot of names of coppers you can't ever remember seeing? Are they detailed out or riding the medical. How many bullshit car accidents and IOD's are in your unit. Then factor in the number of CR numbers evolve into civil suits against the city. Sprinkle in a few Jerry Finnegans and Abbattes. Top it off with a busty superintendent without a clue and you may find there's a lot of bloat in the department you're working for. You see this shit and it doesn't surprise anyone that you want to move out of the city, who could blame you? I dont like having to pick up the tab for all of your bullshit either.

I presume you originally meant to address this part of your comment to daley, stroger, the city council, and the entire democratic party of cook county, but you realized they don't give a shit what you think.

Same here.

Alderman Suarez has the juice, don't mess with him. He gets phone numbers of bosses and Po's and he will call you anytime he feels like.

You need to slap yourself. Take a very hard look at the area you live in up NORTH. There are a lot of shit bags living up there. This isn't about Northside or Southside. The whole city is turning into a DUMP.

I said northwest,not north...
