The free ride may be coming to an end for at least 135,000 Chicagoans who get their cable TV by installing a satellite dish.
Tucked away in Mayor Daley's plan to raise the city's amusement tax from 8 percent to 9 percent is a proposal to broaden the amusement tax umbrella to include "direct-to-home satellite service."
For years, the amusement tax has been tacked on to monthly cable TV bills. Satellite customers who purchase their service through DirecTV and Dish Network have gotten off scot-free
The satellite industry is not going down without a fight. "We believe that federal law currently prohibits local taxation of satellite TV services while preserving the right of states to impose taxes," DISH spokesperson Robin Zimmerman wrote in an e-mail response to the Sun-Times.
DirecTV's Robert Mercer agreed that "federal law prevents cities from taxing direct broadcast satellite services."

I had the dish before (Dish NetworK) and I was quite happy with it.
I think I lost the picture 2 or 3 times over the course of five years, so it really was not that bad.
I switched to cable b/c Comcast had the fastest internet - and when you waiting for porn, with a loaded gun, well it ain't no fun.
I am willing to switch back just b/c Shortshanks! Comcast is good, pricey, but good.
Does anyone know if Wowway or AT&T have fast internet like Comcast?
How about the satelite companies??
I would switch in an instant, again just to "fuck with" Shortshanks (I know it does not do anything to him - but I feel better) so if you have any info please share it with me....

I remember in Cabrini about 5 years ago, before the mass demolition, when half the apartments had satellite dishes rigged up outside apartment windows. Some even had two dishes! Always made me laugh. They were paying $50 a month to live there while paying $100 a month to watch TV!

Had a beef with a neighbor who called the Neighborhood Rrelations officer. Proved that he spent most of his time in Chicago, Worked in Chicago, and Voted in Chicago. A good beat cop who patrols his beat, will notice your car w/o a city sticker and/or out of state plates parking on a regular basis by you home. You will get a citation. Keep it in the garage would be my advice. I plan on doing your game soon.

to 12:09, Dish Network is the way to go. I lost the signal more with cable, only a couple times a year with the Dish. And if the signal is lost it returns rather quickly when the bad weather clears, Comcrap takes forever to fix it and they have an attitude about it also.
For fast internet, I go wireless with an air card, but the speed is negligable when compared to a DSL line from the phone company.
Dish Network and AT&T run a joint venture with a special price for Dish service and a DSL line for a "special price"

If you get Wow you will still be taxed. AT&T have faster speeds but it's limited by how far you are from the central office (where all the wires come from). AT&T Universe has faster speeds than Comcrap but it's in limited areas.
I switched from Comcrap just because of the price and problems. Yes it's slow but I'm paying 1/3 the price and I don't have daily outages.

The City of Chicago is demanding the billing records of the satellite companies so they can direct bill the customers for the "tax"
I presume that if you work for the City they can turn it over to personnel for collection via the Employee Indebtedness process.
Answer: Medical Roll or have bill sent to a friend or relative outside of Chicago. I own a rental condo in a nearby suburb and it has paid unexpected dividends over the years. Namely I get to fuck the City of Chicago out of lots of taxes, including a City Sticker!

A couple of topics:
Street parking: 20 years ago when I moved in to my house on the SW side in an area exclusively of single family homes, there were virtually no cars parked on the street. No if I were to get a 3rd car, there would be no where to park it when I came home. Because the illegal immigrants living 3 families deep in single family homes.
Which is the same reason why the schools have tripled their size and build new schools. All while there is no growth in the tax base.
But Shortshanks says that they are to be admired for their thriftiness while they suck off the teat of the land, drive down wages and send $B's back to the home country.
As for the city income tax: Heard back in the mid-80's that the city looked at it. But there was a court ruling that if the city imposed that, it would lose the residency requirement.
this city has to stop opening and welcoming its arms to all these low life scum bags in the ghetto that continually abuse "the system" and soak it for everything it's got. not to mention they don't pay taxes nor do they contribute to society, let alone this city.
i went to the bears game yesterday. i saw bike cops writing ANOV's to bear fans goin to the game for drinking.......WTF where are these useless p/o's at the gay parade, puerto rican fest, and the bud billiken parade????

If you get a sharp beat officer who knows his beat, you're gonna get a ticket for no city sticker. Happened to buddy of mine who has a residence in Antioch. Had a beef with a neighbor who called the Neighborhood Relations officer. Proved that he spent most of his time in Chicago, Worked in Chicago, and Voted in Chicago. A good beat cop who patrols his beat, will notice your car w/o a city sticker and/or out of state plates parking on a regular basis by you home. You will get a citation.
