Which cutie pie 6 year wonder sgt from 016 is going around telling everyone she's on her way to the academy on a phone order? With outstanding skills honed with a few years on the desk in 024, a few years leading TRU in DOPW's, and a momma with a homeland security job, her skills must be lauded. There is much for the recruits to learn.
There are 27 recruits graduating shortly. That will leave 23 recruits in the academy. There are 28 sgt's assigned or detailed to the academy. That makes more sgt's than recruits (some recruits have more time on the job than most of those sgt's). Yet MT needs another fearless leader to help him in his mission to ....do whatever. Jody is really doing a great job. It's all legit kid.
i hung out in the coach house behind obama's crib and watched pornos and played cards with the secret service. when i asked if this was ok? they responded... YES WE CAN! true story.
It's a pretty easy detail. You are assined to a post where you check ID's of all vehicles entering Obama's block of residence. At first they couldn't make up their minds on how they wanted us to do things. First it was driver in the car and passender outside. Then it was both stand outside, then it was you're "allowed" to sit in car if traffic is scarce. It's a pretty pointless task considering all the secret service already there, but it's really not all that bad. Except for the cold rainy days of course.

I read here the other day that the TRU secretary gets working day mini-furloughs, taken during holiday weeks but has only 8 years on. WTF! How is that possible? Got to be contract and GO violation. I was hoping someone would clarify but the comment got lost in all the responses to the fool copper that obviously can't drive. I've got more time than her and work in shit every night and can barely get a weekend off. How is this possible? Please don't make this an opportunity to bash TRU, this is some major bullshit that needs to be explained. Anyone know how this is allowed?!

Once again certain airport coppers are getting overtime on the Obama detail.
I felt very discriminated against. I will not do it again and have the senioroty to refuse. I feel sorry for the coppers that get sent there. I can say, "Put your time in. We all did it." But I won't say that. I just feel outright sorry for them. No copper should be treated like that.
I work in HQ and I have it this week coming up, M-F. From our unit they are detailing 11 people for one week, and then rotating it through the rest of the building. 5 on days at the Obama house, 5 on afternoons at Federal Plaza and 1 on midnights at Federal Plaza. I think this is to take some pressure off districts, but who knows.
The only thing I have to add is that 2 sgts and 25 PO's from the Academy are detailed to the "Obama Transition Detail" starting at midnight Sunday. It's all 3 watches at his house and the Federal Building. They went reverse sen. for the most part. How many does that bring that detail up to? What the hell is wrong with the Secret Service that they can't handle him?
2 sgts and 25 P.O.'s detailed immediately to Obama detail for one week, all watches from academy. Officers given 3 hours notice to report Sunday. Other units also affected. Finally, reverse senority used.

How many Sgt's??? Just incredible how they waste manpower in this department.
Soon enough, most of the 200 sworn staff members, Sgts and Lt's at the academy will be back on the street. No hiring until spring except for suburban depts. Civilian instructors will be teaching the suburban depts. with a few sworn. Those few sworn will be left behind to teach in service and the rest will be gone.
I worked the downtown detail last night. I got a kick out of the fact that we were not allowed cargo pants, baseball caps, but every federal officer was wearing theirs.
How about a nice strong showing at the FOP General Meeting on Tuesday, Nov 18, 2100 hours.
Officers should make a strong statement that we would like the Obama details to be assigned as Special Employment, like O'Hare and CHA. Time and a half for the detail and no complaining and they get their manpower.
If enough officers show up and put this out on the floor and submit written reports to the FOP maybe they will try and force the issue with the city.

How do you quit a detail that you have been assigned to? Now, Police Officers can go to their districts of assignments and details, pick and choose which and what jobs that they will do and will not do? If McCain was the President elect from Chicago, would there be the same type of details for him?

From what I see and what I've heard, it has the potential to be a good gig, BUT, with the press hovering around and the constantly being under a microscope, at this point in time it is shit.
I would suggest rather than a "detail" put it on the special employment market and let Coppers do it on their days off if they choose. Of course a much more stringent uniform and appearance policy should be enacted because we have all seen the salty KMA's at the airport looking like shit.
I was asked to work the detail and the transition headquarters and I said...
NO I WONT!
This morning's 1100 news on Newsradio 780 had JFed on saying starting next week, both details will be staffed by special employment officers.
At first he emphasized that no district was taking officers and I was yelling at the radio, but then I realised he was talking in the future tense.

Just a note to correct some of the grumbling masses that represent themselves as the "real police". The Academy is just the most visble part of the Education and Training Division. You remember, the division that provides all the training you keep asking for? Just because the city won't hire anyone, doesn't mean the whole place is being mothballed. There are a number of ongoing programs that are part of the Division with ongoing in-service training. Patrol Carbine Operators Course, In-Car Camera, TARA, the Dept. Armorers, Tactical Training Unit, Firearms Qualification, etc., etc., etc.
Overall, for a Department this size, we are actually understaffed in Education and Training, much the same way you are understaffed in the Districts accross the city.
Why can't you acknowledge the bigger picture? It's hard for everyone.

I think big Jody and J.D. HOG must be reading these posts. I broke down the negatives on the Pres. security detail and how everyone would have no police experience. I also hinted that TARA is the way to go since it is federally funded and everybody is trained on it. Apparently, they are heading that direction and let us see if they make it TARA. If they are very picky they should take guys with carbine training and deploy them with a M-4 and pay them double time ;).

Um, there's nobody coming to the academy. As for Sgt.'s, there is about 20 total. I think there is only 1 or 2 in recruit training the rest are in TARA and in-service stuff. Matter of fact there is only a handful of officers assigned to train recruits.
You are right. We do have way to many Sgt’s assigned down here at the academy. Way to many! All we need down here is Mark S. The super Sgt. Here is a guy who has a whole 3 months on the street as a Sgt and then became detailed to the academy. He is going to be teaching leadership classes to other sgt’s. He sure must of learned how to be a great leader of men in those 3 months on the street. Hey, Mark S. slow down if Matt T, came to a quick halt your head would go right up his A@$….

If one relative signs the timesheets for another, it's not allowed. Basically, the idea is, you can't be in control of a relative's time/money/scheduling. They can work in the same unit, though, if time/money isn't a factor.

when we're understaffed in the districts..people..(you know people as in family members,remember them?)get hurt. I don't see emergency situations in the academy when you have no one available.
What airport coppers are getting the Obama detail? Get your facts straight, crybaby - there are no airport coppers detailed out on that! There aren't enough police at the airport!
the simple truth is that taking sgts out of their assigned areas for this detail means time and 1/2 pay...per contract, so when those overtime slips came in some seriously stupid exempt at 35th street had to run it by legal affairs...and by next week we will bid for this special employment for overtime/special pay.....or redistribution of our taxes to the police who still wait for a working raise since July 07 old sgt looling forward to visiting Obama jobs!

Now let's see here. You claim that the officers were only given 3hrs notice to report on Sunday. Clearly, if you posted your comment at 07:55hrs on Saturday that would meant that there was a lot more than 3 hrs notice given.

Uh No. The Academy works Mon thru Fri. The Officers who work there were notified about 1400 hrs on Friday of the Detail. Now unless they are on 24 hr call they were given less then 3 hrs notice before the end of their tour.

To the Feds, we are the equivalent of The Digby Armored Truck, Security and Catfish Company.
We would not really be trusted with anything important. The Feds know how fucked up it is here. Of course there are isolated pockets of competency and professionalism in the CPD but they are few and scattered.
As if wearing the regular uniform instead of cargo pants and baseball hat really makes us more professional. They approve other uniforms and then disallow us wearing them if we are supposedly in the public view. The same uniforms departments across the country wear on camera all the time.
Look for a return of the hard round top police helmet circa 1910 and 100% wool trousers with the white piping down the leg. That and the weekly envelope for the WC and tacit approval of profit sharing on traffic stops.

That's exactly what goes on in the payroll department at HQ and it's been going on for sometime. They all know and have allowed it.
Overall, for a Department this size, we are actually understaffed in Education and Training, much the same way you are understaffed in the Districts accross the city.
Why can't you acknowledge the bigger picture? It's hard for everyone.

Oh dear Lord. PATROL carbine training, yeah right. TARA training, 5 days of letting p.o's sleep. Yeah, that'll prepare us for a massive terrorist attack. In-car camera training, we really need that kind of training. Weapons qualification, area ranges take care of that and that takes a couple clicks on the computer. How about some real training!!! But we don't need real training, we have the streaming videos to teach us how to approach an Active Shooter situation in a large building or school by watching a 5 min. video. Great hands on training. Any and all training coming out of that Academy and this Department is a fucking joke!! If only the public knew that the first responders to a school shooting incident were trained to handle the situation by watching a fucking video!! And room entry? Only for the tac teams I guess. Cuz regular blue shirts never have to clear a house or warehouse. Fucking joke you Academy people are.

2 sgts and 25 P.O.'s detailed immediately to Obama detail for one week, all watches from academy. Officers given 3 hours notice to report Sunday. Other units also affected. Finally, reverse senority used.

Quit complaining. Some people are never happy. If you are not happy, then leave. Districts are very short handed. This is not a malicious act. They need help and asked academy to provide staff to guard the federal building. Every unit is helping, so be quiet.

Never. Not CTA, the only good thing for some about CTA Special is the social security credits.

Soon enough, most of the 200 sworn staff members, Sgts and Lt's at the academy will be back on the street. No hiring until spring except for suburban depts. Civilian instructors will be teaching the suburban depts. with a few sworn. Those few sworn will be left behind to teach in service and the rest will be gone.

Why all the attention on the academy? Training continues with the few recruits and officers from the street. Finally, officers on the street will receive the training they have been denied for years. We cannot as a large department ignore training. Instead of a streaming video or a bulletin, actual classes to learn and practice. Staff are detailed out as necessary. The same as 35th street. Some bitter officers out there.

hey dummy, read the contract!!! most people that work tact/gangs dont realize what contractual rights they give up. they can change your hours and days off at any time. you only get OT if you work more than 8.5 hrs in a day or dont get your 2 regular days of within a week. so enjoy the changing of hours and days off. thats what you give up to wear jeans and extra hairgel
There are 27 recruits graduating shortly. That will leave 23 recruits in the academy. There are 28 sgt's assigned or detailed to the academy. That makes more sgt's than recruits (some recruits have more time on the job than most of those sgt's). Yet MT needs another fearless leader to help him in his mission to ....do whatever. Jody is really doing a great job. It's all legit kid.

1st class has 24 Recruits that will graduate on Dec 9th.
2nd class has 23 recruits with no date for graduation.
I read here the other day that the TRU secretary gets working day mini-furloughs, taken during holiday weeks but has only 8 years on. WTF! How is that possible? Got to be contract and GO violation. I was hoping someone would clarify but the comment got lost in all the responses to the fool copper that obviously can't drive. I've got more time than her and work in shit every night and can barely get a weekend off. How is this possible? Please don't make this an opportunity to bash TRU, this is some major bullshit that needs to be explained. Anyone know how this is allowed?!

the simple truth is that taking sgts out of their assigned areas for this detail means time and 1/2 pay...per contract, so when those overtime slips came in some seriously stupid exempt at 35th street had to run it by legal affairs
**Same for the PO's that are being moved out of the areas that they are assigned to. Same for the house mice that are getting their hours changed.
It's all OT people. Stop being pansies and file with the union so they stop jerking us around. Fucking stand up already. You all beef about the Union not doing anything for you, but yet you can't do anything for yourself. Keep eating shit and they will keep feeding it to you!

Last Saturday I did a seat belt mission which was 45 minutes long. A Papa Ts truck brought us pizza and the corner store gave us beverages. We got the boss an event number and the WC toured the dock without ever leaving the office. That's what I call police work. Oh, by the way, everyone was wearing their seat belts. NO TICKETS for short shanks.
