Finally!! Once upon a time while in a unit that worked citywide I can attest to the fact that SOME lockup keepers think that they have the toughest job on the face of the earth. Not that taking T.V.'s away from the lazy asses will make them move a bit faster.
PLEASE NOTE I SAID SOME. There were a FEW places that ran the lockup better than most fast food drive thru's.

When the city first got free cable in all public buildings, 025 had so many hook ups in every office, they had to put in booster amplifiers to accommodate everyone. Then some Lt. in the "D Unit Upstairs" complained of poor signal quality. A cable guy was dispatched and found a rats nest of illegal wires to every nook and cranny in the building.
He said only the DC and WC were suppose to have the free cable?
Ask Joe Curtin, he was the cable expert!
What about watch commnaders/commanders offices? how about the tv's in daleys car?
My partner had a guy hang himself five minutes before the jail wagon took that prisoner. After that I never relied on the cell cameras and physically look in on each prisoner every fifteen minutes. I never wanted to go through the emotions that my partner went through after the death.
About time! Lock up keepers are there to process prisoners and not to watch prime time or the newest movie on dvd. I hope they put pepople back there that actually do anywork. I don't care cause i spend the remainder of my tour waiting for lockup to take my prisoner. 2hrs at a time.
I never worked lock-up but if I did I would want a tv back there when there was some down time. Whatever they could do to make this job more undisireable I guess
Fact. 025 2nd WC received the fax and personally waddled back to the lockup to inform them that their TV had to go.
He then immediately returned to the WC's office to finish watching the afternoon news on his own TV.
The criminals are sick to death of having to see these high-powered democratic politicians on television 24/7. Do you blame them? Isn't it bad enough having to spend half your life in the joint, and a funky joint at that, for half rate crimes?

I think they want to force the lock up into being an undesirable job or..........someone got fed up of waiting on A/1 or 002 lock up to take their prisoners and they were connected to the think tank!

It's true, no more tv's. They took the one we had out. I was so bored working the lockup. I was going to study my general orders instead. J/K! I read both papers,and did some thumb wrestling. Somebody maybe got busted watching porn. Now I can't watch the View! Oh am I depressed!

MP3, Ipod, portable DVD, that is the answer.

That's the best move they have done in a long time. Those lazy ass lockup personnel make you wait forever to take a prisoner (In the busy districts). I have never worked a slow district so I don't know how they are.

No,that was when they got rid of the internet connection when a LT in 011 was caught downloading porn amongst other things. Not to worry he was "Banished" to 2nd watch on 016. Never ends...

That really sucks for our district. All watches got together and pitched in to get a flat screen DVD/TV combo. So sad. It's one of the few perks left and it's getting yanked. I haven't been to lockup in a little bit, so I will have to see if we are enforcing it. I hope we don't, because we have a pretty easy going W/C.
whats the mutt on 1st watch in 018 going to do now? The lockup keeper that dresses like a hood rat, complete with the hat cocked to the side and no uniform EVER!
How about getting some clues for these guys. The biggest bunch of fat, lazy, power-hungry, do nothing power tools this fine department has to offer.

Great Idea! Then they would actually have to turn their attention on processing prisoners. Shit, go to any ghetto district lockup and all the m/1 lock up keepers are watching basketball or playing playstation and eating their 3rd lunch all while you stand their with you thumb up your ass for 1-2 hours. W/C's don't do shit about it either.
Not that I care because I don't really watch tv anymore... maybe a dvd once in a while, but I know it will bother some of the other guys. I've been wrapped up in homework for the last few years. I guess we'll find something else to do with our down time.
There was a fax dated on the 11th stating no TVs in the lockup, that lockup personnel need to check prisoners every 15 minutes; cameras do not count, and WC and desk Sgt need to check lockup twice per shift.
Not sure where the order came from, and who started it, but I'm sure someone pissed off someone, somewhere; that's what always starts this type of thing.

Tv's in some lock ups are necessary, places that are really busy...When you have several arrestees sitting there waiting to be processed, it is a nice distraction for them and it makes your job a little easier. Most people who bitch about the lock up have never done it, especially in a busy place...

area 1 on afternoons and mid's the worst in town. especially that useless fat dude on 3rd watch. hides in the locker room reading porn or sits outside by the parking lot and smokes a cigarette every ten minutes and what little time he is inside, its at the desk hanging with his homies and not in lock up.
If its a P.o. with 20 plus years on I don't cae let them have their t.v. in lock-up.What pisses me off is guys like G.K. in 021 who has 10 years on and has been in the radio room for 9 of them and I'm not exxagerating this guy is a $70,000 a year waste has not worked a single day on the streets after 1 year on the job and is a rat asshole to top it off.
thats good because the king of the 008 lock up on midnights j.h who pretends to be the police does nothing but watch t.v... i do feel bad however for the crew in 008 on third watch... sure, they keep the t.v. on in the backround but no matter what, when ever you call to bring a prisoner in they never ever make you wait no matter how many people they have in line. they take your guy, search him real quick and throw im in the bull pin and let the officer get back on the street... they deserve to use the t.v.. that goof on midnights should have no perks back there... i just feel bad for the other guys having to work with joe because now they are just gonna have to listen to all his b.s. stories and tuff guy talk to all the prisoners like hes someone..

The entertainment detail does have a supervisor opening, might be a good fit. Scam-a-lama-ding-dong ain't fittin' to be a sworn office, so he'd fit in nicely holding court at Dublin's with the rest of the entertainment detail command staff...

You sure are right about J.H. on midnights in 008. He is a total wanna be copper. He is a lazy
p.o.s.......a crabby little bitch. He doesnt deserve to have a TV. Dont even try to bring a prisoner back there until at least 2300hrs because he is eating lunch. I have worked all over the city and have been in many different lockups and this guy is the absolute worst and the slowest lock-up keeper in the city. There are some real toolbag P/O's that work back there with him too(M.R. and the angry mexican). So, in summary of my last paragraph, the 008th District 1st watch lockup crew can go fuck themselves. They really suck.
But on a lighter note:
The 3rd watch guys have no problem handling twice the amount of traffic with no backup and a good attitude. Great job guys especially Jimmy P.... The coppers on 3rd watch owe you guys a few cases of beer.
I could go to each lock-up and teach everyone the latest in Pilates classes. God knows they look like they need it.
