Well, we got to start somewhere with cuts. The Aldermen are needed says the mayor. So they won't be cut. But why pay them so much for a part time job? How about cutting their pay to that of a patrolman?
Finally, tac will have to do caps requests and station assignments to Huck Fins.
Does it matter in patrol? Patrol officers will keep doing their jobs. Let's focus on the furture, instead of the past. How about making a new flippin Sgt's class. Asked for a sgt the other day and we only had one up total on the watch that day and he was stuck in the station doing roll calls. Waited on scene for 50 mins for him to come out. I can't blame him for it, but come on already, put some more sgt's out on the streets to help us out when we need them.

More and more weakening of the front line supervison. I ask just one question - how does the Mayor allow all these decisions regarding public safety be continued to be made by clueless civilians? The main brain trust of the Department - Weis,Brust,O'Keefe, Cuello [sworn in name only], Masters is calling the shots. And to make matters worse, who are they relying on for information, none other then the "Policy Group." Hamilton, Bartuch, et al with their combined 30 years of experience [that's for around 5 people] are advising this group of civlians on how to be the police.
No wonder things are the way they are.

Sure there's a cure for that cancer, it's called firing practically all of those 'department higher ups'.
And as far as 'promoting a cancer in the CPD', what's the name of the cancer you refer to, ie., what is your name?
Does the Superentendant have any plan for replacing retired or promoted Captains. By my estimates we are short 9 with 2 or 3 being forced to retire in early 2009. There is also the rumor that the Inspector rank will be filled by Captains (Capts. union reportedly has it in thier new contract)which will require 4 or 5 new spots? Putting the department down appr. 15 Captaind by March.
Hopefully the supt will also see what a waste it is to have a C.O. at an airport whereas a Sgt could do the same job and better, that way another lt could be sent to the district where she could be used and work 8 hours!

Ok, so tact teams hours bring them in contact with two watches. One w/c tells them to do one thing, the other tells them to do something else. who do they listen to? with the egos of some of these w/c's you don't think the w/c who is not getting his way will not take it out on the officers? it is the old don't kill the messenger, but that is exactly what the dept does.
the tact lt was always there to assist the commander, who in almost every district, is worked to the bone. So now your going to have tact teams with no real chain of command, feuding w/c's, and mostly not so motivated tact guys.
Oh yeah and another pissed off dumped boss, back on the watch to take it out on the messengers...

I am on tact, I have been on tact for many years. I dont care what they do to us . We are a joke now anyway. All we do is garbage pickup, drinkers pissers 2.5 grams weed all nonsense. Most of us are looking to a beat car anyway, i know it is not any better there but f%ck this whole patrol unit its mismanaged and with no clout we are all in it together
If they cut the Tact Lt. spot they eliminate 25 positions for Lt. What will the union do? Love them or hate them we can't let the city just eliminate the position. If they do this then you can forget about a Lt. class for another 2 years. The mayor just keeps eliminating positions and we are not getting any new people. You will see an 8,000 man department by 2010.

Further word is in addition to all this the tact teams will all be going to 10 hour days and the teams will be 8 man with a forth 8 man team being made. You heard it here first.

I have lived in mt. greenwood my entire life and have never seen behavior like this. The officers on 2211 days (usually Owens and Gibbons) do a great job of handling the beat. Afternoons, don't know who is on it and therefore won't bitch, but what's with the afternoon wagon? Kids were throwing iceballs at cars and people on 111th and sawyer/kedzie, wagon called, and guys say "hey, They're cops kids." SO WHAT!! I have kids and my neighbors have permission to slap the shit out of them if they act like savages. Same for the cops.

I know of one tact lt that is doing a great job. Video enhancement, programs, not to mention other things that have greatly helped other districts in the city.
Remove him, and say goodbye to the great numbers this district is producing.
CAPS keeps getting credit for his work, and it is the tact office that is doing it.

Come on guys all these captains were clouted their captains bars or crawled under someone's desk at one time or another to get promoted. Anyone in a nortside district have a watch commander responsible enough to handle the tactical teams. Didn't the department once do a study and learn that tactical teams were making the majority of arrest and all of the quality of life arrests that were so important to community groups. Yea lets give these useless watch commanders the reign over working police officers.. Big mistake....

Has anyone noticed all of the fucking school crossings on 2nd Watch?..in 014 we have like 4-6 everyday..which leaves 1-2 cars up to cover the district....How did this shit get started?..Is it because ignorant kids can't cross at the corner because of their parents are fucking stupid?..What the fuck..maybe I should go at lunchtime and cut their fucking meat too, so they don't choke

How about certain Sgts of the 18th district window detail get moved somewhere else? It's leadership 101 when you say outdoor roll call at 2000 hrs on our corners when its snowing/sleeting outside and winds up to 30mph and then don't show, not even calling it off over the radio. instead mobile with one guy on the detail to call the desk so the desk could inform the entire detail through one guy that the roll call was canned. You are plain wrong on this. I can think of numerous Captains who were the police in their day. Like it or not every Captain and Exempt position is appointed. As always some deserve and others don't. It gets old listening to the whiners who aoutomatically complain about every boss just because they are a boss. Someone has to do it.

Not sure where you work, but our Lt. would NEVER cover for anyone!! He is afraid of his own shadow and wouldn't back us up if we were 100% right! He is not tact Lt material!

There's no tact teams in 021 anyway three arrests a week and holding slips ain't tact. and soon there won't be a 021 district either
16,19, even 20 tact makes assholes out of 021 tact everyday .
021 tact is unnecessary and embarrassing.

Softball, I rarely ever call a Sgt. I do my job, follow the rules, and can make my own decisions, and I am not in need of constant supervision. I don't need a boss to help me do my job. The problem is there are too many coppers like you working out there otherwise we wouldn't need any Sgts on the street. Figure shit out on your own!
Supposedly the tac lt will be eliminated. This is gonna happen primarily because no captain(lt or sgt or det) promotions are on the horizon. With the current number of captains vacancies combined with pending retirements in addition to the inability to promote there is a overwhelming need for more lt's on the watch. Therefore, put the tac lt's back on the watch.
Tac teams will report to the watch commander and still maintain a sgt for each team.
That way the Watch Commander could decide what the teams do. Now we also free up take home cars!
I DON'T KNOW OF ANY TACT TEAMS THAT HAVE TAKE HOME CARS....MAYBE THE LT., BUT THE DYA/NIGHT TEAMS USE THE SAME CARS IDIOT..
gotta love Jody's big moves to centralize gangs in the areas....they've spent the last 2 weeks trying to come up with a plan to house all these people, & guess what, it won't work..next time consider all the pros and cons before making a big move (the first con is how to fit an extra 80-90 personnel in an already crowded area....
How about certain Sgts of the 18th district window detail get moved somewhere else? It's leadership 101 when you say outdoor roll call at 2000 hrs on our corners when its snowing/sleeting outside and winds up to 30mph and then don't show, not even calling it off over the radio. instead mobile with one guy on the detail to call the desk so the desk could inform the entire detail through one guy that the roll call was canned. Thanks Sgt C A!!!
Complaining about the 018 Dist Window Detail?? Poor baby... Go bitch to the clout that got you on Michigan Ave. instead of chasing the radio in Roseland or Englewood. They'll tell you to shut the fuck up already.

The Tact Lt is supposed to be up the commanders ass, thats who he works for directly dummy. Lt MA did not even want to go to 021 I saw him in 004 before he got his bars talking to Dana. I guess he just can't get that south side work ethic out of his system thats why you north siders hiding out in 021 hate him so much. Shit if you like the south side so much come to 004.

You know I'm sick of this idea that watch personnel do nothing. If you had to answer calls and write reports your numbers would be all that either..Especially now when we are so short on the watches and you tact guys can't even be found to back someone up...

I thought this guy/girl wrote a good message until he/she started bashing tact. The biggest problem with this blog is that the public sector that reads this gets the idea that no officers in any district/watch/tact or unit do anything. I think this blog should show more of what the police officer do day to day. Beat cars are constantly answering calls, writing reports and making traffic stops. Not for their commander or superintendant or the mayor, but soley for self pride in their work and the desire to protect the city they work for. As far as tact or other units, the bulk of the officers are there to do the best job they can. Yes there are politics and some ass kissing involved, but even with that they still try to do their job.
Sorry for rambling, but I thought maybe the general public should know that most officer are out there every day working hard and the small percent that don't do anything are on this site badmouthing those that doing their jobs.
Before you start bashing me, I am a 20+ veteran of the CPD and still believe that the officers of this department are honest and hard working no matter where they work or what they do.
PS. Stay safe and always back each other up whether you thing the other officers need it or not.

Off topic, Does anyone know anything about that Lt. Janice Roach in 022? They call her Janice the Maniac. She screams on the radio so much so that no one can understand her. Someone needs to tell her to stay off the air. She is dumb as a box of rocks. Oh no, she is a genius, just ask her she will tell you.

Actually I work for Lt. Roache in 22. Never heard that maniac label before, she's actually pretty laid back and intelligent and always has her officer's back. She is a bit fond of the radio but if that's her only flaw we are very lucky to work for her.
