No Bond for Shooter
Bond was denied Saturday for a man accused of shooting and wounding a Chicago Police officer Thursday night in the Northwest Side’s Logan Square neighborhood.
Juan Romero, 18, of the 1500 block of North Oakley Blvd., was charged with two counts of attempted murder, police said. On Saturday, Cook County Judge Laura Sullivan denied Romero bond, according to a Cook County courts spokesman.
About 10:15 p.m. Thursday, officers in an unmarked car attempted to stop Romero near West Belden and North Kedzie avenues and talk with him because the officers identified him as an alleged gang member, Shakespeare District police Capt. Marc Buslik said.
“Before they [police] even got out of the car, he came up, he walked up to the car and pointed [the weapon] at them,” Buslik said.
Word trickling in from various sources that this scumbag is, believe it or not, an illegal alien. So how's that "sanctuary city" crap working out for the police so far?

Showed up at the crime scene that night and here is what I got out of it...
Shithead I.G. just got done shooting at rival gang in retaliation for being shot last month. Dispatchers were unable to get calls over radio before gang team officers see shithead running from scene. Not sure if they saw a gun or not... Officers exit car and shithead immediately turns and fires several rounds at them. PO is hit and partner exchanges gunfire and the chase begins.
They run about three blocks on ice covered alleys/streets (Real nice that the alleys and streets weren't salted...thanks daley) It was fucking cold out there! Shithead turned and tried to shoot the partner, officer slipped on ice and fired, dropping shithead.
There was a GREAT response from assisting officers even units from 011, TRU, and MSF I believe. The crime scene was run very well, except for a clueless SGT or two and the fact that yuppies think they can demand anything they fucking want and don't understand the concept of a crime scene or crime scene tape.
THANK GOD the officer is ok, painful spot to get hit probably shattered bone(s) but hopefully will recover fully. Good luck in the recovery and hopefully his partner is doing ok too.
That was a horrible couple minutes listening over the radio. Its a shame that he can make it home safe from multipe tours in Iraq and gets hit from an 18yr possible illegal shithead with THREE previous AGG UUW pinches.
This is about as accurate of a story I was able to get there. Hopefully it clears the air a little and officers can know how quickly things can go very bad.

I am glad the officer came out okay in this incident. It really gets me that the City has their "Don't ask don't tell" policy when it comes to illegal aliens. You would think after the death of my son, Officer Michael Gordon, EOW: 8/8/04, killed by an illegal alien, that the this policy would change. When I hear comments like, "They are hard working people" from the Mayor, it tells me that my son gave his life to the City that doesn't really care. CPD is the only Department I'm aware that does this?

It's actually pretty common out west. We require that the applicant be here LEGALLY, and have a status with INS that allows legal employment and legal firearms ownership.
However, if he comes from a place that the background investigator can't really look at or visit, he probably won't be hired.
That's actually normal from the Rockies on west.
