Aldercreatures Fail Again

Models of courage and steadfastness in the face of Shortshank's wrath:
  • Chicago aldermen “afraid” to increase parking meter rates for the last 20 years on Thursday gave a private contractor carte blanche to raise them sky-high — in exchange for a cool $1.15 billion.

With just three days to contemplate a 75-year transaction, the City Council voted 40 to 5 to unload a fourth major asset — Chicago’s 36,000 parking meters — and sock it to motorists lucky enough to find a space on Chicago streets.

The final vote was 40 to 5.

So much for the aldercreatures being representative of the people. Daley does what he wants and these candy-asses give it up like Pee-Wee Herman in maximum security.

And now that the City has given away the Skyway, four downtown parking garages, Midway and the parking meters, where are the corresponding layoffs that are the crux of these "money saving" initiatives?" Because with the revenue stream coming to an abrupt halt from these previously money-generating enterprises, one would imagine that the large number of jobs attached to each of them would be eliminated lest the salaries led to a negative cash flow? Yes, no, maybe?

Or didn't that fit into the discussion time of three days allotted for the entire undertaking?

This just in..
mayor lil dick has opened negotiations to lease/sell the pension board.
Prospective bidders would only opt for a 19 month contract as opposed to the 99 year term that lil dick wanted. but the high point of the deal is that the city pays the high bidder to buy it.
All they ask is that the buyer pay the city and county tax on the deal
It is expected to raise sufficient revenue to bring the fund up to almost 50% in order to cover the next 23 retirements.
that is all.

You are aware that the meters produce about $1million a year, right? Now the city doesn't have to pay the salaries, benefits, etc., for thieving city employees collecting coins from the meters.

Maybe the city should have raised taxes. You'd be happy then, right?

Or maybe in order to prevent any privitazation, the city should layoff fire and police personnel? After all, the city has survived with all of your readers/posters claiming and proving a work slowdown/work action.

O.T.
Chicago's police union voted to foot either some or all of the legal bills for Jon Burge, perhaps the city's most infamous former officer, as he faces federal charges tied to allegations of torturing suspects.
Tuesday night, the board of the local Fraternal Order of Police, which represents thousands of officers below the rank of sergeant, voted to pay for Burge's defense in his upcoming federal perjury and obstruction of justice trial, a police source confirmed Thursday.
Attempts to reach FOP President Mark Donahue about the move were unsuccessful. A source familiar with Tuesday's vote says the board OKd funding Burge's defense because the onetime lieutenant -- ultimately fired -- is facing criminal charges linked to his time on the police force
why the FOP?

A comment from the Reader "Clout City"...

"NEW SIDEWALK TOLLWAYS TO RAISE BILLIONS FOR CASH-STRAPPED CITY

In a bold yet innovative move, City Hall today announced the launch of a new sidewalk tollway system, where pedestrians must pay one dollar per block to walk on sidewalks within Chicago city limits.

"This will raise much needed capital for infrastructure improvements," Mayor Daley said. "I think citizens are really going to like this solution. And they're getting a great value!"

Pedestrians can purchase a pre-loaded I-Pass for $2,500.00 or can pay the slightly higher rate of $1.25 per city block and wait in longer lines if they choose to pay in cash. Gates and lanes will usher pedestrians smoothly through each tollway and prevent anyone from walking for free.

"Chicago really is a great city," said Lincoln Park Trixie. "It's so worth paying more for everything, to live in this filthy, crime-ridden community overrun with corruption and ne'er do wells. Life is really hard here and getting harder all the time! Why would anyone ever want to live anywhere else?""

to my dear city employee-- the city will NEVER lay off police or fire personnel. it is to expensive to train them. instead, they lower the actual number of sworn personnel thru attrition. every member of these depts is a line item in the budget. so if the police dept is slated for 13,500 but is only really 10,000 strong, where is the bread for the 3500 we are short. simple answer is that it is being used elsewhere or outright stolen. work slowdown-- you must be kidding, the cpd has been on a work slowdown since the austin 7 when they started fucking with all the overtime. police are like slot machines now, " one armed bandits" write movers and parkers and fill up the leprechaun's pot of gold. the city has come right out and said they DO NOT WANT WORKING POLICE ANYMORE.

3) How is this private company going to get the license plate information? Will they have access to LEADS?

This is great! When parking was a quarter, those meters didn't hold enough to make stealing them worthwhile. Now, at $6.50 an hour, there could be 70 or 80 bucks in one. I am bidding on the pipe cutter concession in Chicago.
Do the math, clip 4 meters a day, 5 days a week, that's about $1500 a week. $75000 a year for a ten hour work week. Give Richie credit, this is an all round great deal for the Chicago economy. Why you guys beefing?

I would almost lay a bet that some police services will be privatized soon. Shortshanks is letting the police department dwindle to dangerously low levels and the crime rate is rising. Privatizing mass transit will probably be the first to go.
Daley will cry that the budget shortfalls don't allow him to hire more police. His only option will be to "outsource" to private (well-connected) securty firms.
With the leasing of the parking meters and giving a private company the ability to write tickets for revenue generation, a whole can of worms has been opened. How many other police poweres can be given to private enterprises. How about allowing a private enterprise to write mcc charges? At some point the police may only be needed to make arrests on signed complaints. Through the attrition rate, we may be down to about 5000 CPD officers in the next few years creating a manufactured crisis that the mayor and city coucil will rectify by outsourcing many traditional police functions. The sad part is the public will be happy becuase something is being done. The city wins financially since they don't have to pay for things like health insurance premiums and retirement benefits.

The legitimate purpose of having metered parking is to motivate turn over in selected, retail areas.

It is not, nor has ever been, to charge rent for the usage of the publicly owned street parking areas, to the very owners of said streets.

Said owners of the public way, being the public, already pay, in taxations, for the maintenance and upkeep of the streets that they collectively own.

daley's illegal act, in selling, to private entities, the rights to use, of property owned by the public, purportedly in the name of the public, is, on it's face, unlawful.

Unlawful acts, whether committed by one party to a contract, or both parties, render said contractual agreements null and void.

The judicious application, in civil court, of contract law, will be the most effective means to put an end to many of daley's scams.

Were any civil court to affirm unlawful contracts, the precedent set would be as worthy of SCOTUS review as the recent 2nd Amendment Rights one is.

If not on a state level, certainly on a Federal one, business interests would have the most to lose, were an unlawful act to be affirmed to not be a valid cause of contractual nullification.

Something for the business interests to think long and hard about, and quickly, as rights neglected become rights no longer considered, by some courts, to be rights.

Meters are to be fed 24/7 including Sundays. Gone are the day of Parking meter Holidays!!

The private company gets to write tickets also. How is that? I dont know, but Daley can write ordanances however he wants and the Aldercreatures-a.k.a. spineless wimps who have sold their souls to the Daley Machine will just rubber stamp the new ordanance.

I have some problems/reservations writing tickets for a private entity. I will continue to write fire plugs and handicaps for the obvious reasons.

Wow, another billion dollars for the Daley administration to steal. I hope the money is wisely spent on much needed underground children s museum.

If you mean that the 'children' are being buried underground, than, yes, daley must consider that the money is being spent 'wisely'.
