Connected Demoted

Long rumored connection confirmed by the Sun Times. Finally:
  • A cousin of Michelle Obama was one of four police supervisors recently kicked off Supt. Jody Weis’ command staff.

[...] Michelle Obama’s cousin is Michael Shields. Barack Obama referred to the Shields family in an ABC-TV interview the day before Thanksgiving:

“Michelle’s from Chicago, so she’s got cousins everywhere. You walk down the street, you’ll bump into a Robinson. Or a Shields.”

Shields, the former deputy superintendent of strategic deployment, was bucked down to a lieutenant at the Belmont Area headquarters at a far lower pay scale.

Well, that explains a lot. Like how someone who might have cost the city tens of thousands in settlement money continued to be promoted and protected. More humorous is the alleged criticism of the other demotions:
  • John Franklin, commander of special functions, was demoted to lieutenant and is working in the Evidence and Recovered Property section.

Ronald Sodini, assistant deputy superintendent of special functions, also was demoted to lieutenant and is working in the Belmont District.

Terrence Williams, commander of the Targeted Response Unit, is now a captain in the Chicago Lawn District.

We notice that no one is criticizing the demotion of 025's Avila and we really shouldn't have to give everyone another crack at why the rest of the demotions were long overdue. Incompetence is the rule, not the exception.

Is Shields the guy in that poster, which I believe was against racial profiling, that was hung up in the stations?

In the poster all the other brass were smiling but he had this mean scowl on his face.

That scowl is probably permanently on his face now!

Hahaha!!

Rumor was that Shields was being considered for a position with the White House Security staff. Not sure where this started but did hear it shortly before the election when it was coming to light that he was tied in with Obama. We shall see what we shall see.

Most of these bosses get dumped because "power plays" that they make that come under scrutiny from above. I would not say that they come from anything else

...sometimes they shit on their subordinates and then that subordinate becomes their boss (i.e. Maher to Pedersen, then Maher gone..and good riddance I may add.).
.or you just have someone who lost their "chinaman, sponsor, clout, or whoever"...All of these people who have been dumped are dumped because I think Jody is looking for a diamond in the rough, and he just aint gonna find it.

..Sorry, but this department knows that it is who you KNOW or BLOW that gets you up the ranks, or you/your family has funneled money into the Daley machine. When they have a chance to lower the BOOM on you because of one of your own fuckups..then they launch you..and your clout, patronage or whatever does not mean a thing.

What I would like to know is who are the good exempts in this Department, and what makes them good? Maybe the bosses could take some pointers.

I worked for Sodini for over 4 years and he was a complete professional. He was good to his people. He was very freindly and easy to talk to. He is a stellar boss and he did not attempt to micro manage like a few bosses that I know of. I believe this was a travesty to treat a person the way the city has treated sodini. This is a sign that this city does not care about any one of us. This entire department should lay down and let the politicians squirm. This city will get what it deserves. We should not be doing any pro-active police work. Shortshanks and his ilk have destroyed this entire city with their thieving ways.

Heard about those demotions. Wasn't Sodini originally suppose to become an inspector or in inspection division. Whats up with that. Thats a big fall from Dep Supt. to Lieutenant and from ADS to fieled Lt..Don't feel sorry for any of them..they all must have peaked to soon...hopefully they are still young enough to make it to the top again. See if they made any friends when they were on top. Do you think if Shields is a relative will he be going on to some federal post?

T.W. is heading to afternoons, can't wait to hear the cries and whines from the supercops on 3rd W.
There are plenty of good officers on 3rd, but you never hear from them because they don't feel the need to brag about it and post useless, hateful rants on this blog.
To the few of you who are coming to 1st W., you may not like the hours but you will see what a watch who actually gets along and works together feels like.

Im glad Sodini gone - what a goof without a clue. Go tell that story on how to make a difference as a police officer that you claim to tell everyone you beatoff! Glad you gave up that cush job as a commander now? I'm sure Belmont has numerous construction sites you can get another squad car stuck in you clueless stroke that never had a game plan. Go back to your Rogaine stock.

Is that the same guy, the cousin, that is a sexual harassment offender, the same one that was confronted by the girl police, her husband police and Jody in Jody's office.

How about Sodini the weeney, best story about him is when he told the concrete workers as he was driving across the wet cement, 'I'm a commander I can do this" as he sunk his squad car into the wet concrete sidewalk. What a worthless shithead and cowardly I might add. His brother is trying to get into the detective division. He also donen't have a clue and is also mamby pamby.

It is ashame that the people that will really suffer, are the ones of lower income, forced to live in gang infested areas. I have seen it with my own eyes the police are laying down, and the city of Chicago have no one to blame, but Jodi Weis.

The Sun Times also commented about Mayor Daley's #1 informant being instructed to find out why it cost the City $500,000. for snow removal this week.

Mike Picardi will be looking for a new job after the #1 stool pigeon and backstabber finishes the inquiry.

Sneed reports that Tommy Byrne is on the case and it is unfortunate but Picardi's back will receive the knife carried by Byrne!

The Sun-Times article states that these bosses were demoted because of a lack of "talent and loyalty". Lack of loyalty to who? JFED. If thats the case we will be down to four or five bosses, JFED loyalists.

This is like a bizzare soap opera playing out at 35th Street-with J-Fed trying to strike a balance by those people he thinks are good, and those he thinks he needs for political reasons. Ernie Brown and Mike Shelds were two of the keep the peace promotions. Word of Shields' extra-curricular activities reached Team Obama, and his fast-route to Superintendent came to a screeching halt. Too bad Brown has been in for such a short time that J-Fed thinks it would look bad to drop him back down already. The reign of Shields is over. Brown has months.

Let's see here.....Sodini got demoted. Below him in the chain of command were Williams and Franklin, both of whom were demoted. Also below him and not mentioned in the article was Chief Helicopter Pilot and Supreme Asshole Harry "The Hat" Hohm who was fired.

What do Sodini and Hohm have in common???
(A) They both lost their jobs
(B) They are both incompetent
(C) They both drove official Department vehicles where they shouldn't go and had the photographic evidence published in the Sun-Times.
(D) All of the above

The prize for this little quiz is a coupon for the Chicago Fire Department to recover your vehicle from Lake Michigan or from wet concrete (winners choice) at no charge. In addition, the city will provide you with another nice new vehicle with no questions asked and a promotion.

Confirmed by the rag of a paper called the slum-times???? WTF??? SCC your readers told us this MONTHS AGO! It wasn’t any huge secret, or threat to National Security. I am actually surprised as all get-out! I lost money, I was betting that Shields would have been one of the next Superintendents, knowing the way this town works. Ok, to all of the nay-sayers; I know Shields has beefs, and cost the City some $$$, but tell `me Brown is squeaky clean! Exactly what were the reasons he couldn’t get the Job in AZ.? However, the way Brown got demoted to LT from Street Deputy, and then to running OCD in a few short months, Shields might still be a horse in the race. Whaddaya think??? Anyone got odds on this? It might be better than the Superbowl!

I don't know Sodini, but have heard some good things. Was he a good boss? If he was that good (or that connected), he'll find a new job soon.

I do know that we need strong leaders in the patrol division. If he's one of those, he won't last long in 19 either.

Does he take care of his people? Is he willing to make a decision? Will he go out on a limb to protect a good copper or is he more interested in his own career?

He's got a law degree? Good. He can probably find some part-time work drawing up wills & trusts (at a discount) for his officers. He can probably use that degree after he retires, too.

He's a police officer first and a lawyer second. If he's worth a damn he won't think that a slot in patrol is below him. Right now we need leaders who can motivate and are willing to lead from the front. We don't need more desk jockeys. If you've not noticed, we've got enough lawyers in this country.

I hope he's a leader, because God knows we have enough "bosses."

Be Safe.

Hey,

A little off track here but, in regard to Mayor Daley continuing to lease/sell off public assets, is anyone (MEDIA...MEDIA...MEDIA/CITIZEN...CITIZEN...CITIZEN)

noticing that there is no mention that in privatizing these public functions and assets, you have the ability to delete TRANSPARENCY.

Think about it...Can you FOIA a private entity?

Think about it...Who really benefits from this private entity? Layering corporations is just one way to hide who really benefits.

Think about it...Who do private companies answer too? Shareholders?

Think about it...why, if we as taxpayers paid to complete these assets; why are we charged for their use, again?

Think about it...How do you put together a patronage army that can bypass federal mandates (i.e. shakman)

Think about it...corruption shadows his (Mayor Daley) every step. Pervasive fraud. Wide ranging federal investigations into hiring and contracts. Numerous indictments at city hall including top level senior administrators. HDO promotions and campaign work. Etc...

This is reposted from a Jan 5, 2006 tribune article by Jodi Wilgoren who was addressing, back then, a 48 Million dollar overrun of expense for a O'Hare Terminal renvation. Here is the link:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/06/national/06chicago.html?_r=1

Think about it...how can you always not know?

Family members benefitting from city pensions or other assets (truck scandal). How many times do close personal friends benefit to the tune of millions on our (taxpaying surfs) backs?

THE BIGGEST STORY THAT IS NOT BEING TOLD, IN MY OPINION, IS THAT THE MINIMAL TRANSPARENCY THAT EXISTS NOW FOR PUBLIC FUNDS AND ASSETS, AND HOW THEY ARE MANAGED, IS GOING TO BE WIPED OUT BY THIS NEW PLOY TO "PRIVATIZE" CITY SERVICES.

Remember...the Mayor has advocated privatization and the quickest way to get there is by selling, or should I say, leasing our infrastructure to private entities.

Think about it...then inform yourself...then inform others.

By the way...maybe our bargaining unit should start to lobby for legal investigation of alderman. How can we have a law that does not allow scrutiny of our governing body...are we in Russia? Even the police are vigorously investigated.

Easy, get to know the media. When your on a scene, brown nose the producer, anchor, cameraman, etc. Then give them your card and tell them if you need anything that you will be glad to help. OT:

So with all these "MISSIONS" being broadcasted daily over the radio, which mind you make us sound sooooooooo busy and involved now, I have a couple of questions.

Which district is really impressing Jody and the staff as the most poactive mission working district?

With all the bosses scambling to get their stats or numbers of BS missions together and contact cards and street roll calls etc. WHO PRIDES THEMSELF AS THE COMMANDER ELITE?

My opinion is if you are the best at leading the city in these categories, then you are like a major league baseball player leading the league in how many FOUL BALLS you hit!

Foul balls are meaningless and attempts and really don't mean anything nor amount ot anything but it shows YOU TRIED....I guess!

Wonder how many Hall of Famers of Baseball led in Foul Balls hit their careers!

With our lack of proactive work and jamming coppers for doing work, what would qualify as MERIT type work?

Logging missions on your check off sheet. Entering contact card info on CLEAR?

WE ARE SO SOFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For people that have been on 10 years plus ......Would any of you all imagined that this is what this job has come to?

For those of you softballs that buy into this NEW POLICING you are the CLINCHERS amongst the rest of the softballs!

The police blotter . . .
It's a first! In an attempt to build a better understanding between the City Council and the Chicago Police Department, Sneed is told top cop Jody Weis has invited all aldermen to take part in modified training at the Police Academy.

• • Translation: It's an effort to show aldermen what it's like to walk in the shoes of cops. Aldermen have been told to dress casually for the training.

F@$k THE ACADEMY. LET THEM HIT THE STREETS IN A SHITTY DISTRICT ON A FRIDAY OR SATURDAY ON 3RD OR 1ST WATCH ONCE A MONTH. THEN THEY MAY GET A CLUE AS TO WHAT WE DEAL WITH DAILY OR DALEY! :)

12/04/2008 04:55:00 PM

I worked for Sodini for over 4 years and he was a complete professional. He was good to his people. He was very freindly and easy to talk to. He is a stellar boss and he did not attempt to micro manage like a few bosses that I know of. I believe this was a travesty to treat a person the way the city has treated sodini. This is a sign that this city does not care about any one of us. This entire department should lay down and let the politicians squirm. This city will get what it deserves. We should not be doing any pro-active police work. Shortshanks and his ilk have destroyed this entire city with their thieving ways.

There's still no picture of Avila hanging in the station lobby either. No sense hanging one now. What's the point? Everyone will just point and say, "Who the hell is that?" The man was about as congenial as a wet fart.

Yes, I kick him when he's down, but only because he was so good at kicking others when he was up.

For your consideration, what the fuck does the administration of the city, or for that matter, the administering of the Police Department have to do with your sworn duties as a police officer?

If you took an oath to enforce the law, where does what a politician does have anything to do with you, unless it stops you from enforcing the law?

Nobody had a problem with the job description of police officer when they took the job, now everyone wants to have their say about how the city is run and rewrite their job descriptions as to who their bosses are, who the crooks are, how shitty the city is. Honestly,
I wish all you fucking whiners would just quit the job, go market your talents elsewhere and be happy for the rest of your lives. Your constant bitching about your pdt and all the rest make you sound like a bunch of pussies.

Long story short, running the city it ain't your fucking responsibility.

As for the privatization of city assets, if you didn't run up that $153 million dollar legal tab over the past 3 and a half years, maybe the rest of the city's work force wouldn't be facing layoffs.

Both have taken a group that has a lot of hisotry and rich tradition and pride in their feild and drove the organization so far into the hole that it will take years to get out of.
Both have bosses that are afraid to fire them because it will make them look bad by picking them in the 1st place.

If you examine the trails of bread crumbs behind most of these bosses you will discover that they defy the natural selection process that Darwinism predicted.

Apparently Darwin newer consider human politics as a intervening factor. Nor did Darwin ever live or visit the City of Chicago.

Look at all these illegitimate [LEADERS] commanding the Chicago Police Department. This is one the major problems facing us and J-clown failed to recognize early on as a primary factor of corruption occurring within the police department.

Clouted bosses must all be removed and demoted, fired, and jailed. Regardless of the political consequences. Unless this is done! No one can effectively change the image of the department. J-clown's cut and paste management style ain't going to make it and time is getting short before a new superintendent with have to pick up the pieces.

If you took an oath to enforce the law, where does what a politician does have anything to do with you, unless it stops you from enforcing the law?

> see above. <

Long story short, running the city it ain't your fucking responsibility.

> see above. <

As for the privatization of city assets, if you didn't run up that $153 million dollar legal tab over the past 3 and a half years, maybe the rest of the city's work force wouldn't be facing layoffs.

> Perhaps if the city wasn't so quick to settle, it'd be half that. It goes with the territory. <

> "Everybody sues the city," Daley said.

How true - everybody DOES sue the City. What's even more telling is this Reader article where it seems everybody who sues the City, wins:

Scores of suits have been filed against other city departments, and through just the first six months of the year Chicago was already on the hook for some $80 million in settlements and court judgments. That’s far more than in any recent year in Chicago—up from about $34 million in 2005. And it doesn’t even include the $12 million spent to settle hundreds of suits related to the Shakman consent decrees, a series of federal court orders banning patronage hiring and firing, or the $11 million it took to settle a dispute with Millennium Park contractors—both paid in 2008 after years of litigation. That’s a total of more than $100 million to close lawsuits from January through June. <

There's a difference between kicking first and kicking back. You're obviously either too sanctimonious or too stupid to distinguish between the two.

The single most depressing issue surrounding Shields are the comments "Weis was unaware of some of his other issues before he promoted him." UNAWARE - how about another clueless Fed making decisions he should never be making. Next on the list of dumps should be his buddy Pete the "B".

Mike S. is a stand up guy... Who do you know, who would not have attempted to exploit his now connection to the White House. Not Mike S. He has not attempted to weild either any real or perceived power he may have under the circumstances. Furthermore, a settlement does not mean that the party is gulity nor that the accuser is telling the truth. In the law it is called a nusance suit. You throw some money at the accuser so that they will go away because it is not worth expending the resources to have a long drawn out trial where there is a real trier of fact (not the media/blogger) and the truth of what occurred could be vetted out. I am certain that there is a gag order on all of the parties as part of the settlement but she has accomplished what she set out to do and that was to mar his reputation, evidenced by the fact that it is still being discussed and Mike S can say nothing. Perhaps this woman should act more lady like and comport herself as a married woman should. Her husband should have dealt with this as a private matter and not brought to work, where all involved would have their shit in the street. Perhaps thats the cost they were willing to pay to get PAID.
