Bad News Day Part 1

For Law Enforcement in general, it's always sad when crap like this washes up:
  • Four Harvey police officers, 10 Cook County jail guards and a Chicago police officer have been charged with providing muscle for what they thought were major drug deals - but were really fake transactions that were part of an FBI sting.

In one of the largest crackdowns on law enforcement officers in recent years, the FBI is accusing the officers of accepting between $400 and $4,000 each on one or more occasions to serve as lookouts and intervene if police or rival drug dealers attempted to interfere with shipments of cocaine and heroin.

And how did they do it?
  • A twin-propeller plane landed at the west suburban DuPage Airport, where they boarded and began counting what they thought was 80 kilograms of cocaine stashed in four duffel bags, according to federal authorities.

They allegedly took the bags to the undercover FBI agent's car and watched as another undercover agent pulled up in a Mercedes, took the bags and drove off.

How very Miami Vice-like. The feebs also staged a high stakes poker game and had a copper providing security. Must have been a heck of a show they were putting on to suck in so many people. We'd have a hard time believing they fly kilos of blow into DuPage when we know that they transport it over the border by the truckload in the intermodal shipping containers with forged lading documents.

Another one year wonder, literally. The CPD idot just passed his one year anniversary in October.

$500 dollars in exchange for a possible 20 years? Let's see, that's $25 per year or $.06 a day. Hope it was all worth it, idiot!

The Feebs did the same scam during the Austin 7 investigation.

They could not use it during the trial because the undercover FBI agent, who was from New Orleans, returned to that assignment and was caught selling kilos by DEA.

The US Attorney in Louisiana allowed him to plea guilty for only two years imprisonment. They did not want bad publicity for the FBI.

Would Fitzgerald allow a CPD officer the same break? I doubt it!

I am not too surprised about this kind of thing. There are plenty of dirty cops around the Chicago area. About all you can do is root a few out now and then to serve as an example to the rest of them.

One wants to think that cops feel some special duty to behave themselves, but time has shown that just isn't the way it is. Cops are subject to the same temptations as every one is, and some succumb.

Here's a radical idea. Why don't the FBI interrupt some REAL drug deals and grab some serious dudes committing a genuine crime, not something set up by one of their paid snitches? Answer, because they couldn't find their own bare asses with both hands. They make about 150 grand a year, can retire at 50 with 3/4 pay, adjusted up for inflation, and get a sweet little part-time job, like Super. of police in Chicago, but can't uncover a crime that they didn't arrange for ahead of time. I dealt with these prima donnas for years as a dick, and wouldn't piss on one if he was on fire.

IAD will never plant that much money at one time. There is no reasons for a crook to leave usc in a car unless its comingle with a substance. That amount of money even with a stupid cop would raise eyebrows. Plant money will most likely be in multiple denominations and just enough to look like it could have been overlooked or forgotten. Enough to make a person think they have found something to get away with and not have anyone immediately miss it,

The stupid thing is that DuPage Airport (DPA) is crawling with Feds that hangar aircraft on the field.

If you're going to be a corrupt cop atleast be smart about it. But then any real cop with half a brain wouldn't do something stupid like this.

Hope the chump change they made on the side was worth the destruction of their careers, families, and the next 10-20 years of their lives spent in prison.

To all the coppers out there worried about the proverbial set-up, just do the right thing and you will always be ok.

I agree, let him rest...but, also how about finding the man that killed him and destroyed the many lives of his family and friends to give them closure... do you really feel that a person that murdered a police officer should be able to stay on the streets? If one of these guys is responsible then find out and give that family some justice! also, one of the men arrested who is a harvey p.o. also was the first to find the officer.. not saying there is a connection but if there is, hopefully good detectives can find out the truth.. officer cook, rest well brother you will be avenged and never forgotten.

One great story deserves another:
Years ago, while working plain clothes tac, we came across a reputed drug dealer who was carrying a very tempting 250K. back then it was akin to coming across one million. We considered walking him into the alley and dispatching same with a bullit to the back of the head. Good thing we didn't. The feds were following this guy!
